This page links all 321 of my lists of HR, finance and operations software, from payroll and accounting tools to project management, note-taking and meeting apps. Find the job and open the one list that covers it.

How I build these lists

Every list I've built since mid-October 2026 follows the same method. I read each tool on its own website, note whether that site names a free plan, a trial only or neither, and put the tools in no particular order with no winner. The tools are named, never linked.

Across the 1,610 different tools I read for the 262 lists on this page where I recorded each tool's free plan, 676 name a free plan or a free version on their own site, 333 offer a trial only, and 601 say neither on the pages I read. That's fewer than half with a free plan, so the column is worth a look before you shortlist anything.

My advice: open the list closest to the job you need done, shortlist three tools whose site names a free plan or trial, and try each one on a single real task before you pay for anything.

HR, payroll, hiring and time tracking (43 lists)

Accounting, invoicing, finance and contracts (63 lists)

Notes, documents, meetings and templates (53 lists)

Alternatives to popular HR and time-tracking tools (23 lists)

Alternatives to popular finance, payments and contract tools (32 lists)

Alternatives to popular productivity and collaboration tools (82 lists)

Do you make one of the HR, finance and operations software on these lists, or one that belongs on them? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place.

Frequently asked questions

Are there UK-specific lists here?

Yes. Some HR, payroll and tax lists are written for UK businesses and say so in the title, such as the UK payroll and MTD software lists.

Which list should a very small team start with?

Start with the lists that name small business or small teams in the title; they focus on tools with simple setup.

What does Not stated mean in the free plan column?

It means the pages I read on the tool's own site didn't mention a free plan or a trial. It doesn't prove there isn't one, so check the site.

Do you rank the software?

No. Lists built since mid-October 2026 are in no particular order and name no winner.

How can a software company be considered?

Through the feature your tool page linked on this page.
