Best Time to Post on Instagram Calculator (Free, 2026)

The best time to post on Instagram in 2026 is a weekday morning between 7am and 9am or an evening between 6pm and 9pm in your audience’s local time, with Tuesday to Thursday the strongest days for most accounts. Pick your audience timezone and type below, add your own top hours from Insights if you have them, and the calculator ranks your five best slots for the coming week with a reason for each and a weekly schedule you can copy.

How to use the calculator

  1. Choose the timezone your audience lives in, not yours. If you are in London and most followers are in New York, pick US Eastern. Your Insights show the top locations under Audience.
  2. Choose the audience type that fits best. It shifts the defaults: B2B pushes towards weekday working hours, creators and students towards evenings and weekends, local businesses towards lunch and early evening.
  3. If you have a business or creator account, open Insights, Total followers, Most active times and type your top three hours. They override the general pattern because your own data always beats an average.
  4. Press the button. You get five ranked slots plus a seven day schedule to copy into your planner or notes.

The calculator

Type the hour only, 24 hour clock, in the audience timezone. Example: 8, 12, 20.

How it works

The calculator scores every hour of every day of the week from documented engagement patterns: weekday mornings and evenings are high, the mid afternoon lull is low, Tuesday to Thursday edge out Monday and Friday, Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings are the useful weekend windows. Your audience type then shifts those scores. B2B accounts gain in working hours and lose at weekends, creators and students gain in the evening and at weekends, local businesses gain at lunch and early evening, and global audiences get flatter scores because someone is always awake. If you type your Insights hours, they get a large boost and hours far from them get a penalty, so your own data wins. It then picks the top five slots, no more than one per day and and it spreads the hours out so you are not told to post at 7am five days running, and shows the best hour for each of the seven days as a schedule.

The times are shown in the timezone you selected. The calculator does not convert between zones for you, so choose the zone where your audience is, and if you plan to schedule posts from another country, remember to shift them when you enter them into your scheduler. If you are still building the account and want more of your followers to see and react to each post, measure the baseline first with the free Instagram engagement rate calculator, then test two of the slots above for a fortnight and compare.

What changed in 2026

Instagram now ranks most feed and Reels content by how people react in the first hour or two, then keeps showing it for days if it earns saves, shares and watch time. That is why timing matters less than it did in 2019 but still matters: a strong first hour buys the extra distribution. Reels are the least timing sensitive format because they surface for a week or more, and Stories are the most sensitive because they vanish after 24 hours. Post your Reels near a peak, your Stories across the day, and your carousels in the evening when people have time to swipe. If you want help with the words once you know the slot, the free Instagram caption generator gives you five options in a few seconds, and there is guidance on cadence in how many Instagram Stories to post a day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to post on Instagram in 2026?

For most accounts, weekday mornings from 7am to 9am and evenings from 6pm to 9pm in your audience’s local time, with Tuesday to Thursday the strongest days. Your own Insights hours beat any general answer, so use them if you have them.

Which timezone should I choose?

The one where most of your followers live. Open Instagram Insights, go to Total followers and look at Top locations. If your audience is spread across several countries, choose the largest one or use the Global option, which favours slots that work across time zones.

Where do I find my most active hours in Instagram?

You need a business or creator account. Open your profile, tap Professional dashboard, then Total followers, and scroll to Most active times. Switch between Hours and Days to see both views. Type the top three hours into the calculator.

Does the best time to post matter for Reels?

Less than for feed posts and much less than for Stories. Reels can keep surfacing for a week or more, so a good Reel finds its audience anyway. A strong first hour still helps, so post them near a peak when you can.

Does the calculator connect to my Instagram account?

No. It uses general 2026 engagement patterns and whatever you type in. Nothing is uploaded and no login is needed.
