Guest Posting Statistics: What 3,225 Websites Tell Us

I analysed the 3,225 websites in my guest post database. The median Domain Authority is 43, and 37.6% of the sites (1,211) score 50 or higher. Marketing, Business and Technology are the biggest niches, with 1,270 listings between them (26% of the whole database).

I've kept a database of websites that accept guest posts for years, and people use it every day to find places to pitch. It holds a lot of data, so I went through all of it to see what it says about where the opportunities are, how strong those sites are and which niches have the most open doors.

Everything on this page comes from the database itself. I haven't added survey answers, estimates or anyone else's figures.

The key guest posting statistics

  • 3,225 different websites accept guest posts across 37 niches in my database (4,921 listings in total).
  • The median Domain Authority is 43, and 37.6% of the sites (1,211) score 50 or higher.
  • Marketing, Business and Technology are the biggest niches, with 1,270 listings between them (26% of the whole database).
  • Technology has the most high-authority sites, with 74 at DA 70 or above.
  • 854 websites (26%) accept guest posts in more than one niche.

How strong are the sites that accept guest posts?

Domain Authority (DA) is a score from 0 to 100 that estimates how likely a site is to rank. It's not a Google metric, but it's the number most people use to compare guest post sites. Here's how the 3,225 websites spread out, using each site's highest listed score.

Domain AuthorityWebsitesShare
70 and above40412.5%
50 to 6980725.0%
30 to 491,35742.1%
Under 3065720.4%

The biggest group sits between 30 and 49. That's where most working blogs are: established enough to have readers, but not so big that every pitch disappears into a queue. The 404 sites at 70 and above are the ones everyone wants, so expect stricter editors and longer waits.

Guest posting statistics by niche

This is every niche in the database, sorted by how many listings it has. The median DA tells you what a typical site in that niche looks like.

Which niches have the most high-authority sites?

If you want the strongest sites, these niches have the most at DA 70 or above:

  • Technology: 74 sites at DA 70+ out of 386
  • Marketing: 67 sites at DA 70+ out of 462
  • Business: 58 sites at DA 70+ out of 422
  • Finance: 43 sites at DA 70+ out of 176
  • Web Design and Web Development: 41 sites at DA 70+ out of 235

Bigger niches naturally have more of everything, so it's worth looking at the typical site too. Among niches with at least 30 listings, these have the highest median DA:

  • Movies: median DA 58.5 across 32 listings
  • Politics: median DA 54.5 across 50 listings
  • Sports: median DA 53 across 54 listings
  • Content Marketing: median DA 49 across 56 listings
  • Finance: median DA 48.5 across 176 listings

Smaller niches can be the better bet. Shopping, Dental and Movies have the fewest listings, which usually means fewer people pitching the same editors.

What this means if you're pitching guest posts

Start with the niche your business lives in, then look sideways. 854 sites accept posts in more than one niche, so a marketing blog may also take a small business or technology piece if the angle is right.

Don't chase DA alone. A site at 40 that your customers read is worth more than a site at 80 they've never heard of. Use the score to shortlist, then read the last few posts on each site and check the topics and quality before you pitch.

How I put this study together

I took every listing in the database, 4,921 in total across 37 niches. Some websites appear in more than one niche, so I removed the duplicates by domain to count 3,225 unique websites. For the authority figures I used the Domain Authority recorded for each site in the database, taking the highest listed score where a site appears more than once. Scores change over time, so treat them as a snapshot rather than a live reading.

This study looks at niches and authority. I also checked the same list live, site by site, to see how many were still working, and you can read what the live check of 5,000 guest post websites found. Editors open and close their doors all the time, so always check a site's current guidelines before you pitch.
