In this blog post I am going to give you the AI marketing statistics that really matter in 2026, with the source named on every single one, plus a set of original numbers you will not find anywhere else because I pulled them myself. No vague "experts say." No stat with a mystery origin. Just the real picture, sourced, so you can quote it and trust it.
I built this page for a reason. Most AI statistics roundups recycle the same unsourced numbers until nobody knows where they came from. I run my whole business on AI, so I wanted one page I could point clients to that was honest about where each figure comes from. Here it is.
The headline AI marketing statistics for 2026
These AI marketing statistics are the ones worth memorising. If you only take five numbers from this page, take these.
- 82% of organisations now use AI in at least one business function, and marketing and sales is the most common function of all, according to McKinsey's 2026 global survey of 1,491 respondents across more than 100 countries.
- 87% of marketers use generative AI in at least one workflow in 2026, up from 51% in 2024, according to Salesforce's State of Marketing 2026 report.
- Marketers recover an average of 6.1 hours a week using AI, according to HubSpot's AI Trends 2026 survey.
- 75% of companies already report positive ROI from generative AI, according to the Marketing AI Institute.
- Searches for AI agents and automation are climbing fast while generic "AI for my industry" searches are falling, based on my own analysis of 30 AI search terms in June 2026.
The original data, my own AI search demand study
This is the part you will not find in any other AI marketing statistics roundup, because I pulled the data myself in June 2026. I exported monthly search volume and year on year change for 30 AI related search terms, and the pattern was clear enough to act on.
- All 16 of the "AI for [an industry or job]" search terms I checked were down year on year, with a median fall of 24%.
- All 9 of the AI agent and automation terms were up, with a median rise of 31%.
- "Agentic ai" pulls 110,000 searches a month and is up 39% year on year.
- "Autonomous ai agents" is up 770%, and "ai agents for business" is up 210%.
The takeaway is simple. People have stopped asking what AI is and started asking what it can run for them. You can read the full method and every number in my AI search demand study, and see what it means in practice in my guide to AI agents for business.
AI adoption statistics 2026
How widely AI is really used, by credible source.
Overall adoption
According to McKinsey's 2026 global survey, 82% of organisations now deploy AI in at least one business function, and for the first time marketing and sales is the most commonly cited function, overtaking supply chain management.
According to Salesforce's State of Marketing 2026, 87% of marketers use generative AI in at least one workflow, a jump from 51% in 2024. That is the curve flattening near the top, not the early days of a trend.
Adoption by region
According to HubSpot's AI Trends 2026 global survey, marketing adoption now varies by region as follows: North America leads at 91%, Western Europe at 88%, Asia Pacific at 84%, Latin America at 79%, and the Middle East and Africa at 71%.
Small business AI adoption statistics
This is where the most movement is happening, and where the gap with big companies is closing.
- According to the US Chamber of Commerce Small Business AI Index, AI adoption among businesses with under 500 employees has reached 51%, and marketing automation tools specifically are now used by 43%, up 13 points from 30% the year before.
- According to Thryv's 2025 survey, small business AI usage rose from 39% in 2024 to 55% in 2025, a 41% increase in a single year.
- According to the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council's October 2025 survey, 88% of small businesses now use AI tools, and 73% say those tools have been important to their competitiveness over the past year.
- According to the US Chamber of Commerce's 2025 research, 96% of small business owners plan to adopt emerging technologies including AI, and 58% already use generative AI, up from 40% in 2024.
- According to US Federal Reserve data, the adoption gap between large and small firms narrowed sharply: in February 2024 large firms used AI at nearly double the rate of small firms, and by August 2025 the two were close, with large firm usage even dipping slightly.
AI marketing ROI and productivity statistics
The numbers that answer the only question your accountant cares about.
- According to the Marketing AI Institute, 75% of companies surveyed already see positive ROI from generative AI.
- According to HubSpot's AI Trends 2026 survey, marketers recover an average of 6.1 hours a week using AI, with senior practitioners saving 8 to 10 hours and junior staff 3 to 4 hours.
Six hours a week is most of a working day handed back to you, every week. That is the real story behind the adoption numbers. People are not using AI because it is exciting. They are using it because it gives them their time back.
What these AI marketing statistics mean for your business
Numbers are only useful if they change what you do, so here is what I take from this set.
First, adoption is no longer the edge. When 82% of organisations and 88% of small businesses already use AI, simply using it is table stakes. The edge is in how well you build it into the actual work, which is a different and harder thing than buying a subscription.
Second, the demand has moved to agents and automation, not curiosity. My own data shows the "what is AI for my industry" searches falling while agent and automation searches climb. If your plan is still built around the old question, you are a year late.
Third, the payoff is time, not magic. The most credible, repeated number across every source is hours recovered. Six hours a week, given back. That is the result to aim for, and it is the result I help clients build toward.

Frequently asked questions about AI marketing statistics
What percentage of businesses use AI in 2026?
According to McKinsey's 2026 global survey, 82% of organisations use AI in at least one business function. Among small businesses specifically, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council found 88% now use AI tools as of October 2025. Adoption is now mainstream rather than early stage.
How many marketers use AI in 2026?
According to Salesforce's State of Marketing 2026, 87% of marketers use generative AI in at least one workflow, up from 51% in 2024. Regional adoption ranges from 91% in North America to 71% in the Middle East and Africa, according to HubSpot's AI Trends 2026 survey.
Does AI marketing really deliver ROI?
According to the Marketing AI Institute, 75% of companies surveyed already report positive ROI from generative AI. The most consistent measurable benefit across sources is time saved: HubSpot's AI Trends 2026 survey found marketers recover an average of 6.1 hours a week. The ROI shows up first as reclaimed hours, then as output.
Are small businesses adopting AI as fast as big companies?
Almost. According to US Federal Reserve data, the gap between large and small firms narrowed sharply between early 2024 and mid 2025. Thryv's 2025 survey found small business usage rose from 39% to 55% in a year, a 41% increase, faster growth than most large enterprises saw in the same period.
What is the biggest shift in AI demand in 2026?
Based on my own June 2026 analysis of 30 AI search terms, the biggest shift is from curiosity to delegation. Searches for "AI for [an industry]" fell across all 16 terms I checked, with a median drop of 24%, while AI agent and automation searches rose across all 9, including "agentic ai" up 39% and "autonomous ai agents" up 770%.
Where do these AI marketing statistics come from?
Every figure on this page is attributed to its source in the text, including McKinsey, Salesforce, HubSpot, the US Chamber of Commerce, Thryv, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council, the US Federal Reserve, and the Marketing AI Institute. The original search demand figures are from my own analysis, published in full in my AI search demand study.
The final word
Statistics are easy to collect and easy to fake, which is why most roundups quietly drop the source and hope you do not ask. I built this page the other way round, source first, so you can use these numbers in a pitch, a board deck, or a client conversation without getting caught out.
The story they tell together is not complicated. AI is now normal, the demand has moved to doing rather than learning, and the payoff people keep reporting is time. The businesses that win from here are not the ones with the most impressive AI statistics on a slide. They are the ones who turned the hours back into work that grows the business.
