X (Twitter) features FAQ

What is the most underused Twitter (X) feature in 2026?

Advanced Search is the most underused. It lets you find tweets by date range, exact phrase, sentiment markers, and engagement minimums, which is incredibly useful for research, competitive monitoring, and finding prospects.

What did Twitter Spaces become after the rebrand?

Spaces is now X Spaces and remains a live-audio feature similar to Clubhouse. It is still free to use and host, and has tighter integration with the main feed for discovery.

Is X Premium worth it for businesses in 2026?

For businesses doing thought leadership or wanting to publish long-form content (Articles), Premium is worth it. For pure broadcast use, the free tier still works fine.

Twitter Advanced Search: finding the conversations that matter

Most business owners scroll their timeline and hope something useful turns up. That is a slow way to work. Twitter's advanced search lets you filter by keyword, date range, location and even sentiment, so you can find customers complaining about a competitor, spot people asking for recommendations in your industry, or track mentions of your brand that do not include the @ symbol.

I use it every Monday morning to search for my own product name paired with words like "recommend" or "alternative". It takes ten minutes and has led to several new customers who had no idea we existed until we replied to their tweet. You do not need any special account status to use this, just patience and a clear idea of the phrases your customers actually type.

Twitter Analytics: working out what your audience wants

Buried under your profile settings is a free analytics dashboard that shows impressions, engagement rate and follower growth for every tweet you post. Most people never open it. That is a mistake, because it tells you plainly which posts worked and which fell flat, rather than leaving you to guess.

Check it monthly rather than daily. Daily numbers bounce around too much to mean anything. Looking at a 30 day view will show you patterns, such as whether your audience responds better to questions than statements, or whether video consistently beats plain text. For a small business with limited time to post, this data should decide what you make more of and what you drop.

Twitter Spaces: hosting live audio conversations with customers

Spaces is Twitter's live audio feature, similar to a phone in radio show but built into the app. As a business owner, it is a low cost way to run a Q&A, interview a supplier, or talk through a new product launch without setting up any video equipment.

The advantage over a written thread is tone. People hear you speak, which builds trust faster than text alone. Keep sessions under 30 minutes to start with, promote the time in advance with a pinned tweet, and record it so you can clip highlights afterwards. Not every business needs this, but if your customers already ask you questions in your replies, Spaces gives them a proper place to do that live.

Twitter Communities: building a smaller, loyal audience

Communities work like private or semi private groups within Twitter, built around a shared topic. Anyone can request to join, and once inside, tweets from that community show up in a dedicated feed rather than getting lost in the main timeline.

For a business, this is useful for building a smaller, more engaged group around a niche interest connected to what you sell. A gardening supplier could run a community for allotment owners, for example. The engagement tends to be higher than on the open timeline because everyone in the group has already opted in to that specific subject.

Feature Best for Time needed weekly Cost
Advanced Search Finding new customers and complaints 10 to 20 minutes Free
Analytics Deciding what content to post more of 15 minutes Free
Spaces Building trust through live conversation 30 to 60 minutes Free
Communities Growing a loyal niche audience 20 minutes Free

FAQ

Do I need a business account to use these features?

No. All four features described here are available on a standard personal account. A business account gives you extra profile fields, but it does not unlock anything mentioned above.

How much time should I spend on Twitter each week?

There is no fixed number, but most small business owners find that two to three hours spread across the week, split between posting, replying and checking analytics, is enough to see steady growth without it taking over the working day.

Are these features available on mobile and desktop?

Yes, all four work on both. Spaces was mobile only when it launched, but it now runs on desktop as well, so you can host or join a conversation from your laptop if that suits you better.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most underused Twitter feature for businesses?

Twitter Lists are often overlooked, yet they let you organize accounts into curated groups such as customers, industry influencers, or competitors. This makes it much easier to monitor conversations that matter without scrolling through your entire timeline.

How can Twitter Advanced Search help with marketing?

Advanced Search lets you filter tweets by keywords, location, dates, and engagement levels. This helps you find people asking questions related to your niche, spot potential leads, and join conversations at the right moment.

Are Twitter Chats still worth participating in?

Yes. Twitter Chats built around specific hashtags bring together people with shared interests at a set time. Joining or hosting one is a straightforward way to build visibility, connect with your target audience, and establish authority in your field.

Do Twitter Moments still matter for content strategy?

Moments allow you to group related tweets into a single shareable story, which is useful for summarizing events, campaigns, or ongoing discussions. They give your content a longer shelf life compared to a single tweet that disappears quickly in the feed.
