Where to Get Free Business Card Templates (2026): Canva, Word, Venngage, Visme and Fotor

The short version: the best places to get free business card templates in 2026 are Canva, Microsoft Word's online templates, Venngage, Visme and Fotor. Venngage, Visme and Fotor each list a free plan, while Canva and Word talk more about what you can do with the finished design: download it, save it as a PDF or print it. Choose by where the card is going, not by the prettiest thumbnail.

I've handed out a lot of business cards over the years, and the ones people keep are the clear, simple ones. You don't need a designer for that. You need a decent template, your details spelt correctly and a file that suits how you'll share it. Here's where to find free business card templates and how I'd choose between them.

Where business card designs come from

In no particular order:

  • Canva: best for downloading a JPEG, PNG or print-ready PDF, or ordering printed cards through Canva Print.
  • Microsoft Word: best for editing a card online, then saving it as a PDF, sending it digitally or printing it.
  • Venngage: best for modern, minimalist, elegant and creative designs with print-ready file formats.
  • Visme: best for cards built around a role, from a store manager or financial consultant to a personal trainer.
  • Fotor: best for a wide spread of styles across many business sectors, with templates for free download.

The file you walk away with matters more than the design

Every one of these sources will give you a template. What differs is the file you end up with, and that's the part most people only think about once they're standing at the print shop. Canva says you can download your finished design as a JPEG, a PNG or a print-ready PDF, and it also lets you order printed cards on the paper finish you choose through Canva Print. Microsoft's Word page talks about editing the card online, then saving it as a PDF, sending it digitally or printing it to hand out in person. Venngage leans towards the printer, saying its print-ready file formats mean your cards can go straight to a professional printing service.

So decide where the card is going before you pick the tool. A card for a professional printer needs a print-ready file. A card you'll send by email or share from your phone is happy as an image. A card you'll run off on your own printer at home is usually easiest as a PDF. Get that decision right first and the rest is simply choosing a design you like.

From blank template to finished card

  1. Decide how you'll share the card: a professional printer, your own printer, or digitally.
  2. Pick the source whose download options match that choice. For a print shop, look for a print-ready PDF or print-ready format.
  3. Choose a design close to your brand, so you're editing words rather than rebuilding the layout.
  4. Replace the sample text with your name, role, phone number, email and website, and leave out anything you wouldn't want a stranger to keep.
  5. Check every detail twice. One wrong digit in a phone number makes the whole card useless.
  6. Download in the format you chose in step one, then print a single test copy before you order a full batch.

Picking a style that suits your sector

Fotor says its templates cover many business sectors and come in a variety of styles, and Venngage describes its collection as modern, minimalist, elegant and creative. Visme goes further and names cards by job, with layouts for a store manager, a financial consultant, a music business and a personal trainer. That's useful, because a template made for your kind of work already has the right tone, and you'll spend less time fighting it.

Whatever you pick, keep it calm. Two fonts at most, your logo if you have one, and enough white space that someone can read your name at arm's length. A busy card looks cheap, however good the template was. If you're using Canva for the rest of your print work too, my guide on making a brochure in Canva uses the same editor, so your cards and brochures can match.

Paper card or digital card?

A printed card still works well at events and in person, but plenty of people now share a digital card from their phone instead. If that's you, have a look at my roundup of the best digital business cards, or follow my step-by-step guide to creating a digital business card. I'd keep both. The printed card is for the conversation over coffee, and the digital one is for everyone you meet online.

Don't overthink it. Pick the source that gives you the file you need, choose a simple design for your sector, check your details, and print one copy before you print a box of them. A free template and ten careful minutes will give you a card you're proud to hand over.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get free business card templates?

Canva, Microsoft Word, Venngage, Visme and Fotor all have business card template pages. Venngage, Visme and Fotor each list a free plan on their own sites.

Can I print a business card from a free template at home?

Yes. Microsoft says you can save a Word business card as a PDF or print it, and Canva says you can download a print-ready PDF.

What file format does a printer want for a business card?

A print-ready file. Canva offers a print-ready PDF download, and Venngage says its print-ready formats are designed for professional printing services.

Do I need design skills to use a business card template?

No. You choose a layout, then replace the text, colours and images. Microsoft says you double click a Word template to edit it online.

Should I get a digital business card instead?

It depends on how you meet people. Microsoft's Word page mentions sending a card digitally as well as printing it, so you can do both from one design.
