To change your Linktree URL, open the Account page in your Linktree Admin, click the three-dot menu next to your username, choose Change username and confirm. You can change it once every seven days, and the linktr.ee part can't be changed because custom domains aren't supported.
The address of your Linktree is what you've printed on business cards, typed into bios and read out on video. So when your brand changes name, or you realise your first username was a typo, changing it feels bigger than it should. The good news is that it's a short job. The part to plan for is everything that points at the old address.
Everything below follows Linktree's own help articles. One thing to be clear about up front: you can change your username, which is the part after the slash, but you can't change the linktr.ee part itself.
What you can and can't change in your Linktree URL
Every Linktree address has the shape linktr.ee/yourusername. Linktree's help says you can't replace that with your own domain: it doesn't support custom domains, and the linktr.ee part stays. What you control is the username at the end.
| Part of the address | Can you change it? |
|---|---|
| linktr.ee | No, it's fixed for every Linktree |
| The username after the slash | Yes, from your Account page |
| A custom domain of your own | No, Linktree says it doesn't support custom domains |
If your real goal is to send visitors to your own website, Linktree's help describes a Redirect option that sends everyone who opens your Linktree to a link you choose. Check in your own admin whether it's available to you before you rely on it.
Changing your Linktree username step by step
Linktree's help article gives this route, which starts in your Linktree Admin:
- Open the Account page. You can reach it by selecting your profile image in the left sidebar, or by going to linktr.ee/admin/account.
- Scroll down to the Account management section.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the username you want to change.
- Choose Change username.
- Enter the new username in the pop-up and continue to the review step.
- Check the details and confirm the change.
The new username takes effect immediately, so as soon as you confirm, the old address stops being your Linktree address. Do the update jobs below straight afterwards, ideally with a list open next to you.
Rules for a new Linktree username
- You can change your username once every seven days, so don't treat the first attempt as a draft.
- If the name you want is already taken, you'll have to pick a different one. Linktree's help describes no way to reserve a name that someone else holds.
- Choose something short and easy to say out loud, in case you ever mention it on a podcast or video.
- Use the same name as your other profiles where you can, so people who know you elsewhere will find you.
If you need ideas, write three or four options down and say each one out loud before you commit. It's worth the five minutes, given the seven-day wait.
Updating your Linktree link after changing the username
This is the part people forget, so I'd treat it as the real job. Linktree's help says your link changes with your username, so you should update it everywhere you've shared it, such as social bios. Here's the list I'd work through:
- Instagram, TikTok and any other social profile with a link field.
- Your email signature, including any saved signature on your phone.
- Video and podcast descriptions where you've pasted the address.
- Your website, newsletter footers and any pages that link to it.
- Printed items such as cards, flyers and stickers, which you'll need to reprint or cover over.
Linktree's help doesn't say what happens to the old address after a change, so don't assume it will redirect. Treat the old address as gone, and work as if every old link will fail.

What happens to Linktree QR codes after a username change
Printed codes are the awkward bit. Per Linktree's help, QR codes made with Linktree's own QR code tool point to a unique URL, so they keep working after a username change. But QR codes you made yourself that point to your old linktr.ee address need updating. If you printed a poster or menu with a self-made code, replace it. It's worth checking each printed code with your phone camera, to see where it really lands.
If you can't change your Linktree username
- Check how recently you last changed it. The once every seven days limit applies.
- Try a different name if you get a message that the one you wanted is taken.
- Work in a web browser and go to your Account page rather than looking for the option elsewhere.
- Log out and back in, then go to your Account page again.
If you're still stuck, Linktree's help centre is the right place to ask, because it can see your account and I can't.
When a different link in bio tool might suit better
If the fixed linktr.ee part bothers you because you want a branded address, no amount of username tweaking will change it. In that case, it may be worth looking at other tools. My guide to Linktree alternatives for small businesses and creators and my comparison of link in bio tools for Instagram and TikTok cover what else is out there, and what to check before you move.
Frequently asked questions

Go to the Account page in your Linktree Admin, scroll to Account management, click the three-dot menu next to your username, choose Change username, enter the new one, review and confirm.

How often can I change my Linktree username?
Linktree's help says you can change it once every seven days, and the new username takes effect immediately.
What happens to my old Linktree link?
Linktree's help doesn't say. It does say your link changes with your username, so update it everywhere you've shared it, such as social bios.
Will my Linktree QR code still work?
QR codes made with Linktree's own QR code tool keep working after a change. QR codes you made yourself that point to your old address need updating.
