Yes. Instagram pays creators in Ghana through Gifts on reels: Ghana is on Meta's list of Gifts countries, and you earn one US cent for every Star fans send once you have 500 followers and a payout account. Instagram doesn't pay per view or per follower in Ghana, and Meta publishes no per-view rate for any country.
Every rule and figure on this page comes from Meta's own Help Center and Instagram for Creators pages, read as of October 2026. Meta changes these lists without much fanfare, so treat this as a snapshot and check the Monetisation section of your own Professional Dashboard, which is the final word for your account.
Here's the detail worth knowing first. Ghana is one of only four African countries on Meta's Gifts list, alongside South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. Nigeria and Kenya aren't on it. So if you're creating from Accra or Kumasi, you're ahead of creators in Lagos and Nairobi on this one tool.
Which Instagram earning tools are open to a Ghana account
Meta lists four tools that pay out through Instagram: badges, bonuses, Gifts and subscriptions. Branded content sits outside that list because the brand pays you, not Meta. This is how each one stands for Ghana on Meta's own pages.
| Tool | Open to Ghana? | What Meta's page says |
|---|---|---|
| Gifts on reels | Yes | Ghana is named on the Gifts country list. You need a professional account, 500 followers and to be 18 or older. |
| Subscriptions | Not listed | The Instagram for Creators page lists the countries where subscriptions are open. Ghana isn't one of them. |
| Badges in Live | Not listed | Open to eligible creators in the US, and invite-only in the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Japan, Australia, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico. |
| Bonuses | Invite only | Instagram calls bonuses a test. The creators site says invitations need location and tax status in Japan, South Korea or the US. |
| Creator Marketplace and branded content | Yes | Open to eligible creators in every country where Meta advertising operates. The only places named as excluded are Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Russia. |
So the honest picture is two routes, not five. Gifts is the one Meta pays you for directly. Branded content is the one where Meta hands you the tools and a brand pays you.
What a Star is worth, and why there's no rate per view
Gifts are bought with Stars. Fans buy Stars inside the app and send them as virtual gifts on your reels, and Instagram pays you one US cent for every Star you receive. Meta's creators page puts it plainly: 100 Stars equals $1. Both followers and non-followers can send them, so a reel that travels beyond your own audience can still earn.
That's why nobody can honestly quote you a rate per thousand views for Ghana. Views don't pay. Gifts do, and a reel with a million views and no gifts earns nothing from this tool. If a site quotes you a per-view figure for Instagram in Ghana, ask where it came from, because it didn't come from Meta.
| Stars your reels receive | What Meta pays you | Why the number matters |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | $1 | Meta's own example on the Instagram for Creators Gifts page |
| 2,500 | $25 | The minimum balance for payout methods other than wire transfer outside the US |
| 10,000 | $100 | The minimum balance if you choose wire transfer |
| 50,000 | $500 | The most you can earn from one tool before you add a payout account |
Instagram takes its share when the viewer buys the Stars, and Meta says that share varies with the size of the Stars pack. Apple or Google also take their in-app purchase fee from the pack price. None of that comes out of the cent per Star you're credited.
A few rules catch people out. Collab posts can't earn Gifts. Accounts that mainly post content focused on children can't earn from Gifts either. And if a fan sends you a gift before your payout account is set up, you'll see who sent it but you won't receive the earnings from it.
The Facebook side for creators in Ghana
Most Ghanaian creators post the same reels to Facebook, so it's worth knowing that Facebook works differently. Ghana is on the country list for Facebook Content Monetization, which pays from ads on eligible public reels. But Ghana isn't on the Facebook Stars list, so Stars on Facebook won't pay a Ghana-based creator even though Gifts on Instagram will.
Language matters too. Facebook's supported list for Content Monetization includes English but not Twi, Ewe or Ga, and Meta says reels in multiple languages may not be eligible. If you want one reel to earn on both apps, an English version is the safe choice. Read how Facebook monetisation works for Ghana pages before you plan around it.
How to get paid from Ghana, step by step
- Switch to a professional account (creator or business) and check you're 18 or older.
- Grow past 500 followers, then look for Gifts under Your Tools in your Professional Dashboard.
- Set up your payout account: Professional Dashboard, then Tools, then Payouts. Meta asks for your business type, legal name, address, phone number and tax ID.
- Use your full legal name exactly as it appears on your tax ID. Meta says, for individuals, the two must match.
- Add your bank details: bank name, the country the bank is in, its SWIFT code (Meta says these are typically 8 to 11 digits long and can mix letters and numbers) and your account number.
- Pick a payout method. Outside the US the minimum balance is $25 for most methods and $100 for wire transfer. Anything under the minimum rolls over to the next month.
- Watch the 21st. Meta releases payouts for Gifts around the 21st of each month for the previous month's earnings, and international payouts can take up to 10 days to reach your bank or PayPal.
Two timing traps. Any change to your payout details puts the account on a 5-day hold, so make changes at least 10 days before a payment date. And if you never add a payout account, Meta caps what you can earn at $500 per tool and $1,500 across 3 tools, and you forfeit it all after 6 months. Meta quotes every threshold in US dollars and doesn't say how a Ghana bank converts it, so ask your bank about incoming international transfers before you choose.

My verdict for Ghanaian creators
Instagram does pay in Ghana, and that puts you ahead of most of the continent. But I'd treat Gifts as a tip jar, not a salary: it rewards a loyal audience that likes to show appreciation, and it pays nothing for reach on its own. Turn Gifts on the day you pass 500 followers, set up the payout account straight away so nothing gets capped, and tell your audience on your reels that they can send them.
Then build the second route. Brands pay for reach and trust, and Meta's Creator Marketplace is open to you. If you want to spread your income beyond one app, my guide to earning online in Ghana covers the routes that work alongside Instagram.
