Image Downloader Chrome Extensions (2026): 9 Compared

An image downloader Chrome extension finds the pictures on a web page and lets you save one, a selection or all of them at once. Most add a filter by size or file type. The nine below come from the Chrome Web Store in no particular order, and because several share almost the same name, the publisher is how you tell them apart.

Right clicking and saving pictures one by one is fine for a single photo and painful for a whole gallery. These extensions scan the page you're on, show you the images they find, and save the ones you tick in one go.

Search the store and you'll see the same two words, image downloader, on listing after listing, so I've kept the publisher next to each one wherever the listing names it. Everything here comes from each extension's own store listing and nothing else. If the pictures are heading into a chat, it's worth knowing whether WhatsApp lowers image quality before you send them.

How these nine image grabbers were picked

Each extension here has its own Chrome Web Store listing, and I've compared them on what those listings show: users, star rating, number of ratings, last updated date and the publisher named under offered by. The user counts, ratings and dates in the entries further down are as each listing showed them, as of Oct 2026. In the free plan column, Yes means the listing text says the extension is free or names a free plan; Not stated means it doesn't say either way.

Which image grabber for which job

  • One photo from a page: you don't need an extension at all; a right click and save does it.
  • A whole gallery or product page: pick a page grabber that shows every image together with a select all option.
  • Images spread across lots of tabs: pick the kind that works across open tabs, so you're not repeating the job tab by tab.
  • Large originals rather than thumbnails: pick one whose listing talks about full size images or a size filter, so the little icons stay behind.
  • Specific file types: pick a downloader that filters by type, so you get the JPGs or SVGs you came for.

Same downloads, very different rating counts

Here's what the stars won't tell you. On the Chrome Web Store, Imageye shows 16.8K ratings on 2,000,000 users, while Image Downloader (2.6K ratings listing) shows 2.6K ratings on the same 2,000,000 users, as of Oct 2026. Same reach, far fewer people rating it.

A rating built on thousands of reviews tells you more than one built on a handful, so read the count next to the stars. And because so many of these share the words image downloader in their names, check the publisher line before you install. It's the quickest way to be sure you've got the one you meant.

Before you add a picture saver to Chrome

  1. Check the publisher under the listing title, because the names overlap so much.
  2. Read the privacy section. Several listings here say they won't collect or use your data, and some don't say.
  3. Look at the last updated date. A listing that hasn't changed in years may lag behind the sites you use.
  4. Save into a new folder, so a bulk download doesn't bury your desktop in files.

My plain advice on choosing an image downloader

Start with the job. If you only grab pictures now and then, a simple page grabber with a select all option is plenty. If you're pulling images from lots of tabs or need the big originals, look for those words on the listing itself. Then check the publisher, the rating count and the last updated date before you add anything to Chrome.

Once the pictures are saved you'll often want to tweak them, and my guide on how to flip an image in Canva covers one of the quickest fixes.

Frequently asked questions

What does an image downloader Chrome extension do?

It scans the page you're on, shows you the images it finds, and saves the ones you pick, often in one bulk download. Many add filters for size and file type.

Are image downloader extensions free?

Two listings here say so in their own text, and one of them names a free plan and a Pro plan. The rest don't say either way, so check each listing before you install.

Why do so many image downloaders have the same name?

Lots of makers use the plain words image downloader in their titles. The publisher named on the listing is the reliable way to tell them apart.

Can an image downloader save images from several tabs?

Some can. One listing here says it downloads images from multiple tabs in one click, while most of the others talk about the page you're viewing.

How do I know if an image downloader is trustworthy?

Check the publisher, the rating count, the last updated date and the privacy section on the listing. A rating backed by thousands of reviews tells you more than a high score on a few.
