A Firefox video downloader is an add-on that saves video from a web page to your computer. The official Firefox Add-ons listing shows each one's daily users, ratings, last update and whether it carries Mozilla's Recommended badge, so check the update date first: several haven't changed in years. Ten add-ons follow in no particular order.
Firefox doesn't put a download button on most of the video you watch online, so an add-on fills the gap. Every one of the ten below describes itself as a way to save video or audio, but they're not all looked after equally, and the listing tells you more than the name does.
I've listed them alphabetically and in no particular order. Everything here comes from each add-on's Firefox Add-ons (addons.mozilla.org) listing: the author, daily users, average rating, ratings count, last updated date and the Recommended badge, all as of Oct 2026. If you only want a clip from a post on X, my guide on how to download video from X without an app may be quicker.
How I picked these ten and how they line up
I picked add-ons whose own listing says they download video, then read what each listing shows: author, daily users, average rating, ratings count, last updated date and badge. Type and Good for come from each listing's description. None of the ten listings says whether the add-on is free, so the last column reads Not stated, as of Oct 2026.

Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express
Best for: Saving YouTube videos in a choice of formats, including FLV, 3GP, MP3, MP4, 720p and 1080p, from a single toolbar add-on.
Live Stream Downloader
Best for: Anyone who needs to save an HLS live stream, the M3U8 kind, to a local disk rather than an ordinary video file.
SaveFrom.net helper
Best for: People who save from lots of different sites, since its listing names YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, SoundCloud and more than 40 others.
Video Downloader professional
Best for: Collecting videos embedded in web pages into a list before saving them to your hard disk, with support up to 4K listed.
Video DownloadHelper

YouTube Downloader (UDL Helper)
Best for: Pulling video or MP3 audio from YouTube and Instagram, with a screenshot button for capturing single frames from online videos.
YouTube Video and Audio Downloader (WebEx)
Best for: Keeping the original audio track from a YouTube video as well as the video itself, in any format the site offers.
Recommended badges and update dates that stopped years ago
Only two of the ten carry Mozilla's Recommended by Firefox badge on their listing: Video DownloadHelper, last updated October 21, 2026, and Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express, last updated October 13, 2026, as of Oct 2026. The other eight don't have it.

At the other end, Download Video and Flash was last updated May 22, 2020 and YouTube Video and Audio Downloader (WebEx) on February 10, 2022. Four of the ten show a last update before 2025. An old date doesn't prove an add-on is broken; it tells you nobody has shipped a change since, and that's worth knowing before you rely on it for a site that changes its pages often.
Ratings counts are just as uneven. SaveFrom.net helper shows 4,775 ratings on 336,732 daily users, while Live Stream Downloader shows 88 ratings on 17,938 daily users, as of Oct 2026. Averages across the ten run from 3.0 to 4.5, so a high average from a handful of people isn't the same evidence as a lower one from thousands.
Match the downloader to what you save
- You save from one site, mostly YouTube: pick a YouTube only downloader and check its last updated date first.
- You save from lots of sites: pick a multi-site downloader whose listing names the sites you use.
- You need live streams: pick a stream downloader whose listing mentions M3U8 or HLS.
- You want the sound as well as the picture: pick one whose listing says it extracts audio or saves MP3.
- You don't want extra software on your computer: skip any add-on whose listing needs a companion application.
- You want Mozilla's badge behind it: pick one with the Recommended by Firefox label.
Reading a downloader listing before you add it
- Read the author name under the title, so you know who publishes it.
- Look at the last updated date. On this list it runs from May 22, 2020 to October 21, 2026, as of Oct 2026.
- Compare daily users with the ratings count, not the average on its own.
- Read the permissions Firefox shows you when you add it.
- Check whether it needs a separate program on your computer, because one listing here says it does.

My plain advice on Firefox video downloaders
Start with what you're saving and where it comes from, then narrow the list by the last updated date. A downloader for one site that was last touched years ago is a gamble, while one updated recently with thousands of ratings behind it gives you far more to go on. Two or three candidates are plenty; read their listings side by side and you'll usually see the difference straight away.
Keep the add-on count low, too. If you tried two downloaders and kept one, remove the other, so it isn't sitting in Firefox for no reason.

Frequently asked questions
Which Firefox video downloader has the most users?
On this list the add-on with the most daily users has 1,837,761 of them, as of Oct 2026, and the one with the fewest has 17,938. Daily users show reach, so read the ratings count and last updated date too.
Which video downloaders are Recommended by Firefox?
Two of the ten on this list carry the Recommended by Firefox badge on their listing, as of Oct 2026. You'll find the badge on each add-on's own Firefox Add-ons page.
Are Firefox video downloader add-ons free?
None of the ten listings here says either way, so this page marks them all Not stated. Read each listing in full before you add one.
Why do some video downloaders need a companion app?
Some listings say they work with a separate application on your computer, for jobs like merging streaming video segments. If you'd rather not install extra software, pick one whose listing doesn't mention it.
How can I tell if a Firefox downloader is still updated?
Check the last updated date on its listing. Four of the ten here show a last update before 2025, as of Oct 2026.
