An AI PDF translator translates the text inside a PDF or office document and puts it back where the original sat, so you get a translated file rather than a block of plain text. The real test is whether the layout survives. Ten tools follow in no particular order, described from each vendor's own page.
Pasting a PDF into a translation box works for a paragraph. It falls apart on a brochure, a contract or a research paper, where tables, columns, headers and images all need to stay in place. That's the job these tools are built for: you upload the file, and you get the same file back in another language.
The ten below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. Every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. They range from free upload tools to on-premise software for companies that can't let a file leave the building.
AI PDF translators side by side
I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or a free allowance, or calls the product free. Trial only means the page names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

Will the layout survive the translation?
That's the question that separates a PDF translator from a text translator. A normal translator hands back plain text: no tables, no columns, no images in the right place. A document translator works on the file itself and tries to put the translated words back where the originals were, so a brochure still looks like a brochure.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
When I read the vendor pages, one free tool said it extracts your text while taking special care to keep the exact format and styling of each section, and another promised document translation that mirrors your original design. Those are the claims to test with your own file, because translated text is often longer than the original and has to fit the same boxes.
Four kinds of PDF translator
- File in, file out. Upload a PDF, Word or PowerPoint file and download the translated version. Fastest for one-off documents.
- Side by side. Bilingual readers show the original and the translation together, which suits research papers and contracts you need to understand rather than republish.
- Chat with the PDF. Instead of translating every page, you ask questions about it. Handy for the gist, but you don't get a translated file.
- Platforms and APIs. Translation platforms, on-premise software and cloud APIs suit companies translating documents every day, often with human review or their own servers.
Before you upload a confidential document
Read where your file goes. Free online translators process documents on their own servers, which is fine for a menu and less fine for a contract, a medical letter or anything under an NDA. If privacy matters, look for an on-premise option or read the vendor's data terms first.
How to check a PDF translation
- Translate a short test file with tables, headers and images, and compare the layout.
- Check numbers, dates and names. These should come through unchanged.
- Ask a fluent speaker to read anything that's going to a customer, a court or a regulator.
- Check scanned PDFs separately. If the PDF is a photo of a page, the tool has to read the text before it can translate it.
- Keep the original file, so you can always go back.

My plain advice on AI PDF translators
For a one-off document you only need to read, a free file-in, file-out tool or a side-by-side reader is plenty. If the translation is going to customers, use a tool that keeps the layout and then have a fluent speaker check it, because a tidy layout can hide a clumsy sentence. And if the file is confidential, keep it off free websites and choose an option that runs on your own servers.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI PDF translator?
It's a tool that translates the text inside a PDF and tries to keep the original layout, so you get a translated file rather than plain text.
Can I translate a PDF and keep the formatting?
Yes. Several tools here say they preserve layout or mirror the original design. Test with a page that has tables and images before you rely on one.
Is there a free AI PDF translator?
Several vendor pages here describe a free translator or a free monthly allowance, shown in the free plan column. Check the limits on each vendor's own site.
Is it safe to upload a confidential PDF to a translator?
Only if you've checked where the file is processed and stored. For sensitive files, use an on-premise option or a vendor whose data terms you've read.
What's the difference between translating a PDF and chatting with it?
A translator gives you the whole document in another language. A chat tool answers questions about the document, which is quicker for the gist but doesn't give you a translated file.
