HoneyBook Review: Which Plan Your Client Workflow Needs

HoneyBook is a client-management tool for freelancers and small service businesses, with proposals, contracts, invoices and payments in one client portal. The catch, as of Oct 2026, is that automations, the full scheduler and SMS reminders start on Essentials at 49 dollars a month billed yearly, and that plan still caps you at 2 team members.

If you're weighing up HoneyBook, you're probably sending proposals, contracts and invoices from three different places and wondering whether one tool can hold all of it. I read HoneyBook's pricing page and the comparison rows under it, and the plan you need depends on two things: how much you want to run on its own, and how many people work in the account.

HoneyBook plans and what each one includes

PlanPrice (billed yearly view)What's includedThe limit that bites
Starter29 dollars a month, billed yearlyUnlimited clients and projects, invoices and payments, proposals and contracts, calendar, all professional templates, client portal, basic reports, HoneyBook AIUp to 2 live lead forms, scheduler shown as 1 session with email-only reminders, no automations
Essentials49 dollars a month, billed yearlyEverything in Starter plus scheduler, automations, QuickBooks Online integration, SMS reminders, removal of the Powered by HoneyBook mark, standard reportsUp to 2 team members, up to 10 live lead forms
Premium109 dollars a month, billed yearlyEverything in Essentials plus unlimited team members, priority support, multiple companies, advanced reports, unlimited live lead formsThe top of the published ladder

Prices from the billed yearly view on HoneyBook's pricing page as of Oct 2026, in dollars; the toggle there says billed yearly saves up to 18%, and there's a billed monthly view too. A 25% off offer was also showing next to Essentials and Premium on the page. Offers come and go, so check the vendor's pricing page before you buy.

Automation and headcount: HoneyBook's two upgrade triggers

Starter is more than a taster. You get unlimited clients and projects, proposals and contracts, invoices and payments, every professional template and the client portal. If your work is a steady flow of enquiries that you handle yourself, that covers the paperwork.

What Starter doesn't do is run things for you. Automations, SMS reminders and the QuickBooks Online integration all begin at Essentials. So does removing the Powered by HoneyBook mark from what your clients see. The comparison rows show the scheduler on Starter as 1 session with email-only meeting reminders, while Essentials and Premium show unlimited sessions with email and SMS reminders. That's how I read it, and it's worth checking on the trial if booking calls is a big part of your week.

The second trigger is people. Essentials caps you at 2 team members. The moment a third person needs to log in, you're on Premium at 109 dollars a month billed yearly, which is the first plan with unlimited team members and priority support. Premium also covers multiple companies, which matters if you run more than one brand.

Lead forms follow the same ladder: up to 2 live lead forms on Starter, up to 10 on Essentials, unlimited on Premium. If you take enquiries for several services from separate forms, count them before you pick a plan.

One smaller fee to know about: instant deposit gets your money to you faster for a 1% fee, and the page marks it as pending eligibility. If you don't need the money that fast, you don't pay it.

What HoneyBook covers from enquiry to payment

  • Enquiries: live lead forms (2, 10 or unlimited, by plan).
  • Selling the job: proposals and contracts on every plan. If that's the main job you're hiring software for, this round-up of proposal software sets HoneyBook in context.
  • Booking time: a scheduler where you set and share your availability, plus schedule and pay, so a client books a session and pays in one go, and automatic meeting reminders.
  • Getting paid: card payments, ACH bank transfer payments and payment tracking for paid and outstanding invoices.
  • Running it: the client portal, HoneyBook AI on all three plans, and basic, standard or advanced reports depending on the plan.

If invoices are the bit you most want to fix, this comparison of invoicing software for freelancers and small businesses is a useful second opinion before you commit.

Who HoneyBook suits, and who should pass

It suits freelancers, photographers, coaches and small creative studios who run each client through enquiry, proposal, contract and invoice, and want all of it in one client portal. It's a natural fit for a solo business that wants the paperwork tidy first and automation a little later.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Skip it if you need automations or the full scheduler on the entry plan, because they start at Essentials. Skip it if your team is bigger than two and Premium isn't something you want to pay for. And if you want the Powered by HoneyBook mark off your documents, that's an Essentials line, not a Starter one.

HoneyBook verdict for solo service businesses

I'd start the free trial on Starter if you're a solo freelancer, photographer or coach and your real problem is paperwork scattered across email and documents. I'd go straight to Essentials if you want reminders and follow-ups to run without you, because that's where automations live. I'd skip HoneyBook if you're a team of three or more and Premium doesn't fit, or if you only need invoicing and nothing else.
