YouTube TV bills you automatically at the start of each billing cycle, on the same date every month, until you cancel. You manage it at tv.youtube.com by selecting your profile picture, then Settings, then Billing, where you can update your card, add a backup payment method and see what you're paying for.
YouTube's help page puts the main YouTube TV plan at $82.99 plus tax a month, as of October 2026. Worth knowing before you change anything: your billing date moves easily, because switching plans, pausing or resuming all reset it to a new day.
When YouTube TV charges you
- Your charge date stays the same each month, and each payment covers the next month of YouTube TV.
- If your date doesn't exist in a month (the 31st, for example), you're charged on the last day of that month.
- Add-on networks are prorated for the time before your next charge date, then added to your monthly charge.
- Taxes are based on where you're located, so the total can move slightly over time.
What moves your YouTube TV billing date
| What you do | What happens to your billing date |
|---|---|
| Switch to a different plan | The day you switch becomes your new monthly billing date. Add-ons stay on their original cycle |
| Pause your membership | When the pause ends you're charged your normal monthly price, and that date becomes your new billing date |
| Resume a pause early | The day you resume becomes your new billing date |
| Cancel | You keep access until the end of your payment period |
When you switch plans, YouTube charges the new plan straight away, minus a credit for the unused time on your old plan. If you're on a promotional price and switch, YouTube says you lose the promotion. Moving to a cheaper plan gives you a credit for the difference on your next payment. The plan options themselves are in YouTube TV plans explained.
How to change your payment method on YouTube TV
- Go to tv.youtube.com.
- Select your profile picture.
- Select Settings, then Billing.
- Select Update next to your form of payment.
If you don't see the option to update, YouTube says you can also change it from the Subscriptions and services page in Google Payments: find YouTube TV, select Manage, and under How you pay choose Change payment method.
Add a backup payment method
A backup card is the simplest way to stop an expired card cutting off your TV. From Settings and Billing, select Update next to your payment details, select Manage under YouTube TV, then under How you pay choose Change payment method, Continue and Add backup.
What a declined payment does
If a monthly payment is declined, YouTube emails you. YouTube TV's troubleshooting page says you then have 1 day to fix it before you lose access, followed by a 30-day pause on your account while YouTube keeps trying to charge you. Its declined payment page describes the same window as a typical 24-hour grace period.
Losing access to your plan also means losing access to add-ons that depend on it, like NFL Sunday Ticket, until the payment is fixed. YouTube points out that a season pass is a full-season commitment, so losing access doesn't cancel the remaining instalment bills.
Why YouTube TV payments get declined
- Not enough funds in the account.
- The security code, expiry date or billing zip code doesn't match your bank's records. The zip code on your payment method should match your card's billing address.
- The card has expired.
- The card type isn't supported, such as a prepaid card.
To fix it fastest, go to payments.google.com, look for the alert bell at the top right and select Fix or Verify. Once the payment goes through, your membership restores at YouTube's next charge attempt. If you'd rather not wait, YouTube says you can cancel and sign up again to get access back right away.
Pending charges and holds
A pending charge is an authorization that hasn't been processed, and you might see several for one payment because each one is an attempt. YouTube says unsuccessful attempts drop off your statement on their own and aren't billed. Pending charges typically resolve within 1 to 14 business days.

If your phone or internet company bills you
Some carriers and internet providers let you pay for YouTube TV on their bill. In that case YouTube TV shows up on your monthly phone or internet bill, you can't currently pause your plan, and plan changes go through your provider's support. If you cancel through YouTube TV and sign up again, YouTube says you'll be billed by Google instead of your provider.
My verdict
Add a backup payment method today. It takes a minute and it's the one setting that stops a declined card turning into a lost evening of TV. If the price is the real issue, look at what each YouTube TV plan costs before you switch, because a plan change resets your billing date, and before you quit, read how to cancel or pause YouTube TV.
