TikTok pays Canadian creators nothing per 1,000 views, because Canada isn't one of the eight countries where the Creator Rewards Program is open. Creators in Canada earn from TikTok through LIVE Gifts, Subscription and brand campaigns, and YouTube is the platform that pays Canadians per view.
Canada surprises a lot of people here. It sits right next to the United States, shares much of the same audience and many of the same brands, and yet TikTok's per-view payment stops at the border. If you're a Canadian creator wondering why your American friends talk about Creator Rewards while you can't find it in your app, this is why.
Why Canadians can't join Creator Rewards
TikTok's Creator Academy says the Creator Rewards Program is open to creators in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico and Brazil, and that you must be based in one of them with an account registered there. Canada isn't included.
The programme also limits which views count. A qualified view has to come from one of those eight countries, last at least five seconds and not be paid or fraudulent. That means Canadian viewers don't count towards per-view rewards for anyone, even a US creator whose audience is mostly in Toronto or Vancouver.
TikTok and the Canadian government
There's some background worth knowing. The federal government banned TikTok on government-issued devices in February of 2023. Then in November of 2024, after a national security review, it ordered TikTok to dissolve its operations in Canada, and TikTok said it would challenge that decision in court. That order was about TikTok's business in Canada. It wasn't a ban on Canadians using the app, but it's one more reason I'd never build a Canadian creator business on TikTok alone.
Paid routes on TikTok for creators in Canada
Brand campaigns
Canadian brands pay creators directly, and many US brands also book Canadian creators whose audiences cross the border. TikTok One is the app's own hub for brand campaigns. Because your audience may include plenty of American viewers, include your audience location split when you pitch.
LIVE Gifts
You can go LIVE at 18 or the age of majority in your country. Viewers send Gifts, you collect Diamonds, and TikTok converts them at its own rate. The Going LIVE guide says rewards go to an external bank or PayPal account depending on region.
Subscription
You set a monthly price from TikTok's tiers, which range from 2.99 to 99.99 US dollars a month, and fans pay in their local currency. TikTok says you receive 70% of revenue after app store fees, with a possible extra 20% for eligible creators.
What makes a Canadian audience valuable to brands
TikTok's own guide to audience commercial value says advertisers look at purchasing power and buying intent, and that older audiences often carry stronger buying power. Canadian audiences tend to look a lot like American ones to a brand, which helps when you're pricing a deal. Bilingual creators have an extra edge: TikTok says content that feels natural in a local language can lift engagement, so French-language content can open doors with Quebec brands.
Getting TikTok money into a Canadian dollar account
The Canadian dollar is the official currency, but TikTok says the payout currency depends on the payment method you pick. Payouts come in weekly, bi-weekly or monthly cycles depending on the programme. Before a payout date appears, add a payment method, give tax information and verify your identity in the Balance section. A minimum payout threshold may apply, and you can adjust it.
TikTok notes that rewards may be taxable and that it can't offer personal tax advice. A Canadian accountant can tell you how to report creator income.

YouTube: where Canadian views do pay
For per-view income, YouTube is the clear alternative in Canada. Canada is on both the YouTube Partner Program list and the expanded programme list, and Google's AdSense payment threshold in Canadian dollars is CAD 100. Canada is also on the IRS list of United States income tax treaties, which matters for withholding on YouTube earnings from US viewers. My guides to YouTube pay per 1,000 views in Canada and Facebook earnings for Canadian creators cover both routes.

My advice for Canadian TikTok creators
Use TikTok for reach and brand deals, and send your best long-form ideas to YouTube where views can earn. Keep your TikTok analytics screenshots handy, because Canadian brands want to see audience location, age and engagement before they book.
One more tip: cross-post your strongest TikTok ideas as YouTube Shorts and longer YouTube videos. The same idea can win reach on TikTok and earn ad revenue on YouTube, and you'll learn quickly which format your Canadian audience prefers. If you ever move to one of the eight eligible countries, check the Creator Rewards rules again, since eligibility follows where you're based and where your account is registered.
