To record yourself on Canva, open your design, go to the Uploads tab and select Record yourself, then choose camera only, camera and screen, or screen only. Press Record, select Done when you finish, then Save and exit. The clip is added to your design as an editable video.
A short video of you talking makes a slide, a social post or a client update feel personal. Canva can record you right inside the editor, so you don't need a separate webcam app or a video editor. There are two ways to do it, and they suit different jobs.
Two ways to record yourself in Canva
| Option | What you get | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Record yourself | A video clip added to your design | Talking-head clips on slides, social videos, intros |
| Present and record | A full recorded walkthrough with a shareable link | Pre-recorded presentations, training, client updates |
How to use Record yourself
- Open your design in Chrome or Safari.
- Select the Uploads tab in the side panel.
- Choose Record yourself, then Record a talking head.
- Allow your browser to use your camera and microphone, and pick the right devices.
- Choose Camera, Camera & Screen or Screen.
- Select Record. Pause or delete if you need to.
- Select Done, then Save and exit.
Canva saves the recording to your Uploads and drops it onto the current page as a video element, so you can resize it, crop it into a circle with a frame or move it to a corner of the slide.
How to record a full presentation with Present and record
- Open your presentation and select Present.
- Choose Present and record from the dropdown and select Next.
- Select Go to recording studio and allow access to your mic and camera.
- Select Start recording and present as you would to a live audience.
- Select End recording and wait for it to upload.
- Copy the link, download the video, discard it or select Save and exit.
Canva says Present and record only works on a computer and supports one recording per design. If you need a second version, duplicate the design and record again.
The catch: a public link is created automatically
This is the bit worth knowing before you record anything confidential. Canva says a Public view link is created automatically when you record a talking presentation, even if you don't save the recording. If the content is sensitive, such as client results or internal plans, go into your sharing settings afterwards and delete that public link. Deleting the link doesn't delete your saved recording.
Why the Record option might be missing
- You're using a print design. Canva says Record yourself isn't available on print templates such as posters, invitations or brochures.
- You're in the wrong browser. For now it's only available in Google Chrome and Safari.
- You're designing through a partner site. Designs opened through the Canva Button on other websites don't support video.
- Your region. Canva notes recording features are currently unavailable in India.
Tips for a better recording
- Sit facing a window or lamp so your face is lit from the front.
- Raise your laptop so the camera is at eye level.
- Use earphones with a mic, or a USB microphone, for cleaner sound than your laptop's built-in mic.
- Record a ten-second test and play it back before the real take.
- Keep talking-head clips short. Two to three sentences per slide is plenty.
Editing your recording afterwards
Because Canva drops the clip into your design as a normal video element, you can edit it like any other video. Trim the dead air at the start and end, put it in a circle frame in the corner of a slide, or add captions so people can follow along with the sound off. If you've recorded several takes, they're all waiting in your Uploads tab, so you can swap in the best one without re-recording.
I'd keep one rule: don't over-polish. People don't expect studio quality from a quick talking-head clip. They expect you to sound like yourself and get to the point.
How long can a Canva video be?
When you download the finished video, Canva's limits depend on your plan. Canva Free users can download MP4 videos up to 30 minutes long at up to 1920 x 1080px. Pro, Teams, Nonprofits and Education users can go up to 2 hours at up to 3840 x 2160px. For most social clips and short walkthroughs, the free limits are plenty.

Ways business owners use it
- A quick welcome video on the first slide of an onboarding deck.
- Talking-head commentary on a results slide for a client report.
- A short intro video for a lead magnet or course module.
- Recorded walkthroughs instead of yet another meeting. My guide to recording screen and audio for professional demos has more tips on this.
My verdict
Use Record yourself for short clips that live inside a design, and Present and record when you want a full walkthrough with a shareable link. Record in Chrome or Safari, check your lighting and sound with a quick test, and delete the automatic public link if the content is private. If you need more editing power than Canva gives you, my list of screen recording tools is a good next step.
