To add a link to your TikTok bio, go to your Profile, tap Edit profile, then tap Add next to Links and follow the steps to enter your website. You can only do it if you have at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account, and the link goes in its own Links field, not in your bio text.
Most of the confusion around this comes from two things. People try to paste a URL into the bio itself, and they don't realise there are two separate ways to qualify for a link. Here's what TikTok's own help says, as of October 2026, plus the changes that catch people out.
Who can add a website link to their TikTok profile
TikTok gives two routes to a profile link:
- 1,000 followers or more. A General account, which TikTok also calls a Personal account, can post a website link once it reaches at least 1,000 followers.
- A Verified Business Account. These are public profiles for brands and businesses, and they can add a link too.
TikTok says creators use the link to share things like a portfolio or their other social channels. Where it's available, you can also choose to add a Lemon8 account to your profile.
A Verified Business Account isn't the blue tick
This is the bit people miss. TikTok's help says verifying a business account is a separate process from requesting a verified badge. So if you run a business and you're nowhere near 1,000 followers, you don't need the blue tick to get a link. You need a Verified Business Account. I've explained the differences between account types in my guide to TikTok personal vs business accounts.
The blue tick is a different thing with different rules. TikTok says it doesn't consider follower or like counts when it decides on a badge. Instead, an account has to be recognised (a name, a profile photo, a bio and at least one public post), active (logged in within the last 6 months), authentic and notable, which TikTok judges by coverage in multiple news sources. Business verification for the badge needs a Verified Business Account or an Organisation Account, and TikTok says it'll tell you the result within 30 days. If you want to go for it, here's my walkthrough on how to get verified on TikTok.
How to add a link to your TikTok bio step by step
Once you qualify, the steps in the app are short:
- Tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Next to Links, tap Add.
- Follow the steps to link your website.
When someone taps the link on your profile, TikTok opens the page in its in-app browser rather than sending them out of the app straight away.
Your bio and your link are two separate fields
TikTok's steps put your website in the Links field, not in the bio. The bio is its own setting, and TikTok's help says bios can't be longer than 80 characters. Its help also says bio editing isn't available on TikTok Mobile Web, so if you can't find the option in your phone's browser, open the app instead.
Because the link has its own home, your bio is free to do a different job. Use those 80 characters to tell people why they should tap, rather than spending them on a web address.
Links TikTok no longer allows
TikTok no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps. You can still add links that send people to those platforms' websites. So if you want people to find you somewhere else, use the web address of that profile, not a link that tries to launch the other app.
Why TikTok may ask people to open your link in their browser
To protect people from scams, phishing, malware and other harmful content, TikTok limits how people can browse chains of external links inside its in-app browser. It applies to all accounts, not just new or small ones. When it kicks in, your visitor may see a message asking them to open the page in their device's own web browser.
That's an extra tap you don't want, and it's why TikTok recommends creators add direct links, so people reach the intended site in just a few steps. In plain terms: point the link straight at the page you want people to land on, rather than at something that bounces them through several other pages first. If you use a link-in-bio tool, I've covered the exact steps in my guide to adding Linktree to TikTok.

How to report a suspicious link on someone's profile
If you think a link on someone else's profile breaks TikTok's Community Guidelines, you can report it:
- Tap the link from their profile.
- Tap More options (the three dots) at the top.
- Tap Report.
- Follow the steps.
TikTok also advises checking that an external site is legitimate and secure before you enter any personal information on it. That's good advice for any link you tap in any app.
Make sure the email on the account is one you still use, which is covered in changing your TikTok email or phone number.
My advice on what to link
If you're a business under 1,000 followers, the Verified Business Account is the route most people forget, and it's worth checking before you assume you're stuck. Once you've got the link, treat it as the one door out of TikTok. Send people to a single page that does one clear job, whether that's your shop, your newsletter sign-up or your booking page, and make sure it loads straight away without hopping through redirects. Then use your bio to give people a reason to tap it.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I add a link to my TikTok bio?
TikTok only lets you add a website link if you have at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account. If you have neither, the Links option won't let you add a website yet.
How many followers do you need to put a link in your TikTok bio?
A General (Personal) account needs at least 1,000 followers. A Verified Business Account can add a link without reaching that number.
Do I need the blue tick to add a link to my TikTok profile?
No. TikTok says verifying a business account is a separate process from requesting a verified badge. You need 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account, not the blue tick.
Can I link my Instagram or another social app in my TikTok bio?
TikTok no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps, but you can still add a link to that platform's website.
Why does my TikTok link ask people to open it in their browser?
TikTok limits how people browse chains of external links in its in-app browser to protect them from scams, phishing and malware. It recommends direct links so people reach your site in just a few steps.
