How Much Does TikTok Pay for a Million Views? (Real Numbers, Not Guesses)

The short version: TikTok typically pays somewhere between 20 dollars and 100 dollars for a million views through its Creator Rewards Program, though I have seen accounts earn as little as 12 dollars and as much as 300 dollars for the same view count depending on video length, watch time, and audience location. There is no fixed rate card, and anyone who tells you a single flat number is either simplifying too much or has not checked their own dashboard in a while.

Why there is no simple answer

I get asked this constantly by clients who are building out a content arm for their business, usually right after they have asked me about what TikTok pays for 100k views. They want a formula they can plug into a spreadsheet. TikTok does not work that way, and honestly neither does any platform that pays creators directly rather than through brand deals.

TikTok's Creator Rewards Program, which replaced the old Creator Fund in 2024, pays out based on a mix of factors: video length (it must be over one minute), watch time, originality, and audience region. Two videos with identical view counts can earn wildly different amounts because one kept people watching for 45 seconds and the other lost them at 8.

What the actual numbers look like

Based on payouts I have seen from clients and creators I work with directly, plus figures shared publicly by mid-tier creators, here is the realistic range for a million views under the Creator Rewards Program:

  • Low end: 20 to 40 dollars per million views (short-form content under 90 seconds, low completion rate, non-US audience)
  • Mid range: 50 to 100 dollars per million views (videos over a minute with decent watch-through)
  • High end: 150 to 300 dollars per million views (longer videos, high US or UK audience share, strong replay rate)

Compare that to YouTube, where a million views on a monetised channel with a US-heavy audience can bring in 2,000 to 5,000 dollars through AdSense, and the gap becomes obvious. I have written before about what YouTube pays for 100k views, and the difference in scale is not close. TikTok's payout per view is roughly a tenth to a fiftieth of YouTube's, sometimes less.

A real example from my own network

One creator I advised in early 2025 posted a 90-second video that hit 2.3 million views in four days. It was a good piece of content, a quick business tip filmed on her phone in a car park between client meetings. She messaged me thrilled, assuming a payout somewhere in the hundreds of pounds.

Her Creator Rewards payment for that video came to 41 pounds.

She was not being underpaid or shortchanged by some glitch. That is simply what TikTok pays. The video had a strong watch time but most of her audience was in the UK and parts of Southeast Asia, and neither region carries the ad rates that a US audience does. This is the uncomfortable bit nobody likes putting in these articles: TikTok views are close to worthless on their own. The money is not in the platform's payout, it is in what you do with the attention once you have it.

Where the real money comes from

If you are building a TikTok presence hoping the Creator Rewards Program will pay your bills, stop now and redirect that energy. Almost every creator I know who makes real money from TikTok, five figures a month or more, earns it through:

  • Brand deals and sponsored content, often paying 500 to 5,000 pounds per post depending on follower count and niche
  • Affiliate links through TikTok Shop, where commission rates for creators typically run 5 to 20 percent per sale
  • Driving traffic to their own product, course, or service, which is the model I use myself
  • Selling digital products directly, from templates to guides, promoted through short-form content
  • The Creator Rewards payout is essentially pocket money. It covers a coffee, maybe a tank of petrol. Treating it as the goal rather than a small bonus on top of a proper monetisation strategy is where most new creators go wrong.

How to check your own numbers

Rather than relying on averages from articles like this one, here is how to work out your own rate:

    • Open TikTok Studio, go to the Creator Rewards Program section under monetisation
    • Check your last 30 days of eligible video earnings against your total views for those videos
    • Divide total earnings by total views, then multiply by 1,000,000 to get your personal rate per million
    • Track this monthly, since TikTok adjusts its ad revenue pool and eligible video criteria fairly often

If you want a faster way to estimate this without doing the maths yourself every time, I built a free TikTok money calculator that lets you plug in views and follower count to get a realistic range based on current payout data.

How TikTok compares to other platforms right now

This is the context most people miss when they ask about TikTok specifically. Every platform pays differently for the same audience size:

If your business is trying to decide where to put content effort based purely on direct platform payout, TikTok should be near the bottom of that list. It wins on reach and discovery, not on direct pay.

What I would tell a client

If a small business owner asked me today whether to chase TikTok's Creator Rewards Program as an income strategy, I would say no, not on its own. Build the audience there because the discovery algorithm is still the best of any platform for reaching cold audiences fast. Then move that audience somewhere you control, an email list, a paid community, a product page, and monetise there.

I rebuilt a chunk of my own business this way over the past two years, using short-form video purely as a top-of-funnel tool rather than an income source. The video itself earns almost nothing directly. The client conversation it starts is worth thousands. If you are working through how AI tools fit into that content and monetisation strategy and want a second pair of eyes on it, that is exactly the kind of thing I help business owners map out through AI consulting for small businesses.

    Frequently asked questions

Does TikTok pay more for longer videos?

Yes. The Creator Rewards Program only pays out on videos over one minute long, and payout is weighted by watch time, so a longer video that holds attention typically earns more per view than a short clip that gets skipped quickly.

Is TikTok's payout the same in every country?

No. Payout rates are tied to advertiser demand in each region, so a US or UK audience earns meaningfully more per view than audiences in most of Asia, Africa, or Eastern Europe, sometimes by a factor of five or more.

How do I know if I'm eligible for the Creator Rewards Program?

You generally need at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, along with a TikTok account in good standing and located in an eligible country. Check TikTok Studio under the monetisation tab to confirm your status.

Can you make a full-time income from TikTok views alone?

For almost everyone, no. Direct view payouts are too low to sustain full-time income on their own. Creators earning real money on TikTok are almost always combining Creator Rewards with brand deals, TikTok Shop affiliate income, or their own products and services.
