How to add birthday on X: Step by Step on X (Twitter), 2026

Go to Settings and privacy, then Your account, then Account information, then Birth date. Enter your date of birth, choose who can see your birth month, day and year separately, and save. You can only edit your birthday a limited number of times, so check it before saving.

Why your birthday matters on X

I get asked this a lot, so let's clear it up. X (formerly Twitter) uses your birthday mainly for age related settings, such as showing you age appropriate content and adverts. It is not displayed on your profile by default.

Some people like adding it anyway, because friends and followers can see it if you choose to share it. Others prefer to keep it private. Either way, the platform asks for it as part of your account information.

I will walk you through exactly where to find this setting and how to adjust who sees it, step by step.

Before you start

Make sure you are logged into the account you want to update. You will need access to either the X app on your phone or a web browser on desktop, both work the same way with slightly different menu layouts.

Have your correct date of birth ready. X limits how many times you can change this detail, so I would not treat it as something to tweak repeatedly.

If you are on a company or team account, check with whoever manages it first, since birthday settings affect how the account appears to others.

How to add your birthday on X step by step

Here is the process I use, and it is the same whether you are adding a birthday for the first time or checking what is already there.

  1. Open the X app or go to the website and log in.
  2. Tap your profile icon, then select Settings and privacy.
  3. Go to Your account, then Account information.
  4. Select Birth date.
  5. Enter your day, month and year of birth.
  6. Choose visibility separately for your birth month and day, and your birth year.
  7. Save your changes.

That is it. The menu wording can shift slightly between app updates, but the structure stays roughly the same: Settings, then Your account, then Birth date.

Choosing who can see your birthday

X lets you set visibility for your birth month and day separately from your birth year. You can choose from options such as only you, your followers, people you follow, or everyone.

I would recommend being cautious with the year, in particular. Showing your full date of birth publicly can make you more identifiable, which some people are not comfortable with.

You can change these visibility settings at any time, even if you are limited on how often you can change the actual date.

What to do if you cannot find the birthday setting

If you do not see a Birth date option under Account information, it could be because of an app update moving things around, or because your account type has different settings available.

Try updating the app to the latest version first. If that does not help, log in through a browser instead, as desktop menus sometimes show options before they appear in the mobile app.

If the setting still is not there, I cannot confirm a workaround, since X controls which features roll out and when.

Changing or removing your birthday later

You can go back into the same menu path, Settings and privacy, Your account, Account information, Birth date, to review what is currently set.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Editing it again is possible, but X restricts how many times you can do this within a given period. If you make a mistake, double check the date carefully before saving rather than assuming you can fix it straight after.

I am not aware of a direct option to remove your birthday entirely once added, only to adjust its visibility to the most private setting available.

Common mistakes to avoid

The biggest one I see is people rushing through the date fields and entering the wrong day or month, then being unable to correct it quickly because of the edit limit.

Another is forgetting to check the visibility settings afterwards, which means your birth year could be visible to everyone by default in some cases.

Finally, some people confuse the account birth date, used for age verification, with any birthday shown on a display name or bio. X does not automatically add a birthday to your bio, you would need to type that in yourself if you want it shown that way.

A quick final check

Once you have added your birthday, go back to your profile and settings to confirm everything looks right. Check the date itself, and check who can see it.

If you manage multiple accounts, repeat this process for each one individually, since settings do not carry across accounts automatically.

That is the full process. It takes a couple of minutes once you know where to look.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hide my birthday from everyone on X?

Yes. In Account information, Birth date, you can set visibility to only you for both your birth month and day, and your birth year, separately.

How many times can I change my birthday on X?

X limits how often you can edit your date of birth. I cannot confirm an exact number, so check carefully before saving your first entry.

Does adding a birthday show it on my profile automatically?

No. Your birthday is stored in account settings and is not displayed on your public profile unless you separately add it to your bio text.

Why can I not find the birthday setting on X?

This is usually due to an outdated app version or menu changes. Try updating the app or logging in via a browser to check again.
