Gemini Advanced doesn't exist under that name any more: Google retired it in May 2025 and moved all its features into the Google AI Pro subscription. As of October 2026, Google's plans are Free, Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, and Pro is the direct successor to what used to be sold as Gemini Advanced.
If you've got an old receipt, bookmark or tutorial that mentions Gemini Advanced, nothing's broken. The product moved and the name stayed behind.
Where the Gemini Advanced name came from, and where it went
Gemini Advanced launched on 8 February 2024, the same day Google renamed Bard to Gemini. Google's blog post called it a new experience that gives you access to Ultra 1.0, its largest model at the time. It was sold inside a brand new Google One AI Premium Plan for $19.99/month, starting with a two-month trial at no cost, and launched in more than 150 countries and territories in English.
On 20 May 2025, the Gemini release notes said it plainly: the Gemini Advanced name is retiring. Every Gemini app feature and benefit moved into the Google AI Pro subscription, and Google AI Pro, the notes add, was previously called Google One AI Premium. Google's reason was that the Pro name better reflected what the tier offered beyond the chat app, including tools such as NotebookLM, Whisk and Flow.
| When | What Google did |
|---|---|
| February 2024 | Bard became Gemini. Gemini Advanced launched inside the Google One AI Premium Plan. |
| May 2025 | The Gemini Advanced name retired. Its features became part of Google AI Pro, the renamed Google One AI Premium. |
| May 2026 | At Google I/O 2026, Google added a $100/month AI Ultra plan and cut its top Ultra tier from $250 to $200 a month. |
So when someone asks whether Gemini Advanced is worth it, the honest translation is: is Google AI Pro worth it for you? That's the plan to look at.
The four Google AI plans as of October 2026
These are the prices and benefits shown on Google's English subscriptions page as of October 2026. The page shows United States pricing, and the price you see depends on your country, so check Google's page for yours.
| Plan | Price shown | What Google says it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Free | No charge with a Google Account | Flash-Lite model, image generation, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas, Gems, 15 GB storage |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 / month | Flash model, 2x the usage of Free, 200 Google Flow credits, Gemini in Gmail and Vids, 400 GB storage |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 / month | Gemini 4 Argon and the Pro model, 4x the usage of Free, 1,000 Google Flow credits, Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Vids and more, Chrome auto browse, 5 TB storage |
| Google AI Ultra | $99.99 / month or $199.99 / month | 5x or 20x the Pro usage limits, highest access to Argon, Pro and Flash, 10,000 or 25,000 Flow credits, YouTube Premium individual plan, storage from 20 TB |
Two details aren't obvious from the price list. First, Google says Pro and Ultra are for users over 18, and you need a personal Google Account that you manage on your own. Second, availability differs: Google AI Plus is offered in more than 160 countries and territories, while Pro and Ultra are in more than 150.
What 2x, 4x and 20x mean
Google's limits page describes Gemini's usage limits as compute-based. They factor in how complex your prompt is, which models and features you use and how long your chat runs, and they refresh every 5 hours until you reach a weekly limit. The plans multiply that allowance rather than giving you a fixed number of prompts:
| Plan | Usage limit | Context window |
|---|---|---|
| No AI plan | Standard limits | 32k tokens |
| AI Plus | 2x higher than standard | 128k tokens |
| AI Pro | 4x higher than standard | 1 million tokens |
| AI Ultra | 5x or 20x higher than AI Pro | 1 million tokens |
The context window is what Gemini can read at once. Google says a 1 million token window lets it understand up to 1,500 pages of text or 30,000 lines of code. That's the practical reason a long contract, a full year of reports or a big spreadsheet works better on Pro than on Free. For how the limits behave day to day, see how Gemini's usage limits work.
How to check your plan or upgrade
On a personal account, you subscribe through Google One. As of October 2026 the steps are:
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- At the bottom, click Settings & help, then View Subscriptions.
- Select the Google AI plan you want.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and choose a form of payment.
If you're already on a plan, Settings & help shows the available upgrade option instead. To see how close you are to your limits, open Settings, then Usage Limits, at the bottom left.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Work accounts are different. You can't buy these plans on a work account; your Workspace licence decides your access, and a Pro, Expanded or Ultra badge at the top of gemini.google.com shows which level you've got.
One catch if you cancel: Google says that when your AI Pro plan ends, you can't start new chats with Pro, continue chats created with Pro, or use features that are only on Pro. Finish anything important before the renewal date.
Which plan I'd pick
I'd stay on Free until you keep hitting the limits or need a document bigger than the free window can read. When that happens, Pro is the natural step for most business owners, because it adds the 1 million token window and Gemini inside Gmail and Docs, which is where the day-to-day time goes. I'd skip Ultra unless you're generating video or running heavy agent work every day: Google describes it as up to 20x Pro's limits plus first access to features like Tasks in Gemini in select countries, and most small teams won't use that headroom.
For the full picture on Pro, read my guide to Google AI Pro, and if you're weighing the top tier, my look at Google AI Ultra goes through it. Plans and prices change often, so check Google's subscriptions page before you buy.
If you're deciding which AI subscription is worth paying for across a team, that's the kind of AI enablement I help with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
Frequently asked questions
Is Gemini Advanced still available?
Not under that name. Google retired the Gemini Advanced name in May 2025, and all its Gemini app features are now part of the Google AI Pro subscription.
Is Google AI Pro the same as Gemini Advanced?
It's the successor. Google AI Pro was previously called Google One AI Premium, the plan Gemini Advanced was sold in, and the Gemini app features moved into it in May 2025.
How much did Gemini Advanced cost?
At launch in February 2024, the Google One AI Premium Plan with Gemini Advanced was $19.99/month with a two-month trial. As of October 2026, Google's English subscriptions page lists Google AI Pro at $19.99 / month, and the price shown depends on your country.
Can I get Gemini Advanced on a work account?
Not as a personal subscription. Google says Pro and Ultra need a personal Google Account you manage on your own. Work accounts get access through their Workspace licence, shown by a Pro, Expanded or Ultra badge.
