The short version: Egypt is on Facebook's approved list for Content Monetization, so creators there can apply if they meet the usual thresholds, 10,000 followers (or an invite, since the programme is still rolling out to many accounts on an invite basis), 600,000 minutes viewed in the last 60 days, and a Page that follows Facebook's Content Monetization Policies and Community Standards. The catch isn't eligibility on paper, it's getting watch time that counts, because views from Egypt alone, bought engagement, or recycled clips won't carry you there.

Is Egypt eligible for Facebook Reels monetization?

Yes. Egypt sits on Meta's approved countries list for monetization programmes, which includes most of the Middle East and North Africa now, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, and Egypt among them. That wasn't always the case. For years, creators in Egypt watched creators in the US, UK, and Canada earn from the same content while they got nothing because their country simply wasn't switched on. If you've been checking your Creator Studio or Professional Dashboard and seeing "monetization not available in your country" messages from a year or two back, check again. The list has expanded, and Egypt is in.

That said, being on the eligible list isn't the same as being pre-approved. You still have to apply, and Facebook still reviews the Page, not just the country.

The actual requirements, step by step

Here's what a creator in Cairo, Alexandria, or anywhere in Egypt needs to tick off before applying for Facebook's Content Monetization programme (the one that now covers Reels, feed video, and more under a single umbrella, replacing the old separate Reels Play bonus scheme):

  • A Facebook Page, not a personal profile. Monetization runs through Pages.
  • At least 10,000 followers on that Page.
  • 600,000 total minutes viewed across your videos in the previous 60 days.
  • 5 or more active pieces of content posted in the last 60 days.
  • Compliance with Facebook's Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies, meaning no repeatedly reused content, no spam, no engagement bait, no copyrighted audio or video you don't have rights to.
  • A Page that's been active and in good standing, no recent strikes for Community Standards violations.
  • You're over 18 and based in, or primarily creating content for, an eligible country, which Egypt now is.
  • A linked payment method and tax information once you're approved, since payouts go through Meta's payout system and you'll need to set up tax details correctly for Egypt.

If any one of these is missing, the application either won't go through or will get rejected silently, which is often more frustrating than an outright "no" because creators assume something is broken rather than realising a box isn't ticked.

A worked example: how the numbers stack up

Say you run a cooking page based in Giza, posting Reels of quick Egyptian street food recipes, koshari hacks, ful medames twists, that sort of thing. You've got 14,000 followers, which clears the 10,000 bar easily. But when you check your insights, your last 60 days show 310,000 minutes viewed. You're short, and not by a small margin.

The fix isn't posting more randomly, it's understanding where the minutes come from. A 90-second Reel watched in full by 10,000 people gives you roughly 15,000 minutes from that one video. To hit 600,000 minutes in 60 days from Reels alone, at an average 60% completion rate on 90-second videos, you'd need something in the region of 7.4 million total views across that window, spread over your content. That's not one viral hit, it's consistent reach across 15 to 20 videos a month, each pulling respectable numbers, not one lucky clip carrying the whole account.

This is where a lot of creators in Egypt and across the MENA region get stuck. They post one Reel that does huge numbers, then nothing for two weeks, and wonder why they're still not eligible. Watch time needs a steady drip, not a spike.

The uncomfortable bit nobody wants to say out loud

Here's what most explainers skip. Facebook's payout rates for monetized content vary wildly by the location of your viewers, not just where you're based. A creator in Egypt getting most of their views from Egyptian audiences will typically see far lower RPMs (revenue per thousand views) than a creator getting views from the US, UK, or Canada, because ad rates in those markets are higher and advertisers pay more to reach them. You can meet every single requirement, hit your 600,000 minutes, get approved, and still earn what feels like pocket change if your audience is almost entirely local. It's the same reason Facebook pay in Canada for Reels looks so different from payouts in many MENA markets, it's not favouritism, it's ad spend geography.

This isn't a reason not to try. It's a reason to think about who you're making content for. If you can make content that travels, recipes, comedy, general how-to content that works for an Arabic-speaking diaspora audience across the Gulf, Europe, and North America as well as Egypt, your blended RPM climbs. Content that only makes sense to a hyper-local Egyptian audience will monetize, technically, but the cheque will be smaller than creators in other countries doing similar numbers.

What to do if you're not getting an invite

Content Monetization is still rolling out on an invite basis for a lot of accounts, even ones that meet every threshold. Meta has been explicit that the programme is expanding gradually rather than opening to everyone at once, which you can read more about on how Facebook Content Monetization invites work. If you've hit the numbers and still don't see the option in your Professional Dashboard, it's not necessarily something you've done wrong. Keep posting consistently, keep your Page clean, and check back every few weeks. In the meantime, look at which Facebook monetization tools are already open to you, Stars, subscriptions, or brand partnerships through Facebook's tools, since some of these don't require an invite the same way the core Reels programme does.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

It's also worth understanding what Subscribe on Facebook means for your Page, because fan subscriptions can bring in steady income even before or alongside ad-based monetization, and they don't depend on the same minute-count thresholds.

Common mistakes Egyptian creators make applying

  • Posting Reels that reuse someone else's audio or clips without rights, which gets flagged in the policy review even if your numbers are strong.
  • Applying the moment you cross 10,000 followers without checking the 600,000-minute figure, then getting confused by a rejection.
  • Ignoring Page history, an old strike from a year ago can still sit on your record and block approval.
  • Assuming personal profile followers count. They don't. Monetization is Page-only.
  • Not setting up payment and tax details correctly once approved, which delays the first payout by weeks.

If you want the full breakdown of which countries are approved and how the thresholds compare globally, the Facebook monetization requirements and eligible countries guide is worth bookmarking, since Meta does update this list and it's changed more than once in the past two years.

And if you're trying to work out whether this is even worth your time financially, it helps to look at realistic benchmarks like what Facebook pays for 1 million views before you build a strategy around Reels income alone.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need 10,000 followers to monetize Reels in Egypt?

Yes, 10,000 followers on a Facebook Page is the baseline requirement for Content Monetization in Egypt, alongside 600,000 minutes viewed in the last 60 days and five active posts.

Why was Egypt not eligible for Facebook monetization before?

Meta rolls out monetization country by country based on advertiser demand and infrastructure, and Egypt was added to the approved list more recently than countries like the US, UK, and Canada, which is why older creators remember seeing it blocked.

How much can a creator in Egypt earn from Reels?

It depends heavily on who watches, not just how many watch. Views from higher ad-spend markets like the US or UK pay more per thousand views than views concentrated in Egypt, so creators with a more international audience generally earn more for the same view count.

What happens if you meet the requirements but don't get invited?

Content Monetization is still expanding on an invite basis in many regions, so meeting the thresholds doesn't guarantee instant access. Keep your Page active and policy-compliant and check your Professional Dashboard regularly, since invites continue rolling out.
