No, there's no standing Claude student discount on the individual plans: Anthropic's help centre says it doesn't offer standard discounted pricing for Pro, Max or Ultra, and its support team can't issue one-off discounts or coupons. What students can use instead, as of Nov 2026, is the free Claude plan, the occasional limited-time promotion, or a Claude for Education account if their university provides one.
That's not the answer most people want, but it saves you an afternoon on code sites. Here's what each option gets you and where the catches sit.
What Anthropic says about student pricing
The same wording appears on both the Pro and Max help pages, so it isn't a one-off. Anthropic doesn't offer standard discounted pricing for individual plans. It occasionally runs limited-time promotions, announced through its official channels, and suggests following its official social accounts or signing up for its newsletter to hear about them. There are no standing discounts available on request.
One group does get a discount, and it isn't students. Eligible nonprofits can get discounted pricing, but only on Team and Enterprise plans.
Gift subscriptions aren't a back door either. Anthropic's gift page says it's not possible to purchase a gift right now, and gifts bought when they were available expire 365 days after purchase.
Your options as a student, side by side
| Option | Cost as of Nov 2026 | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Free Claude plan | Free; sign up at claude.ai with an email address | Lower usage than paid plans; you need to be in a supported location |
| Claude for Education | Covered by your university, if it has it | Only if your school offers it; features may be customised |
| Limited-time promotion | Varies, when one runs | Usually first-time paid users only; not for App Store subscribers |
| Pro | $20 per month in the US, local currency where supported | Five-hour and weekly limits still apply |
| Max | $100 per month on the web | Monthly billing only |
| Ultra | $200 per month | Built for very heavy weekly use |
Mobile prices may vary by app platform, and whether tax is included varies by region. For the full breakdown of what each paid plan includes, see this guide to Claude pricing.
Check for Claude for Education before you pay
This is the one I'd chase first. A Claude for Education account comes through your university, and Anthropic's help page lists what's in it:
- An enhanced context window, so you can upload hundreds of pages of text for long papers and datasets.
- Access to the newest, most advanced Claude models.
- Projects, for organising related conversations around shared knowledge.
- Increased usage limits: more messages per day than individual plans.
- Priority access during high-traffic periods.
- File uploads including PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT and HTML.
To get in, sign in at claude.ai with your university email. The same account works in the desktop app for macOS and Windows and in the iOS and Android apps. Anthropic notes that your university may have customised certain features, so your school's IT department is the place to ask what's switched on.
If you already have a personal Claude account on your university email, you'll be able to choose between the old account and the university one when you log in. You can't migrate data between them, but you can export your old conversations and upload them to the new account.
Anthropic's page is also clear on one point: follow your university's academic integrity policies, and don't use Claude to complete assignments you're expected to do on your own. The study uses it lists include research help, feedback on drafts, practice questions, study guides, flashcards and summarised notes.
Why a Claude promo code says it's not available
If you've found a promotion and Claude replies 'This promotion is not available for your account', Anthropic's help centre gives two reasons:
- You're an active paid subscriber, or you've been one in the past. Promotions are generally for people trying a paid plan for the first time.
- You subscribed through the App Store on iOS or Android. App Store subscribers can't use promotions at the moment.
To move from an App Store subscription to a direct one, Anthropic says to cancel and resubscribe once your current term ends. Paid plans bought on the web take credit or debit cards.
If you decide to pay for Pro
Pro is $20 per month in the US as of Nov 2026. The help centre says annual billing is discounted, but it doesn't print the annual figure on that page. Pro has a five-hour limit and a weekly limit across all models, and your weekly reset time is fixed to your account; you'll see it in Settings, then Usage.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
If you keep hitting the ceiling, Pro subscribers can switch on usage credits to keep going past the included usage. Anthropic also hands out occasional limit resets that set your five-hour or weekly limit back to full. Thinking about a bigger plan for a dissertation crunch? This Pro versus Max comparison covers it, and Max being monthly only is handy for one heavy month.
Refund rules worth knowing first
Payments are non-refundable except where Anthropic's Consumer Terms allow it or the law requires it. In the EEA and the UK you may get a refund within 14 days of purchase, prorated to how much you've used. App Store purchases can only be refunded by Apple. If you need to stop a plan, here's how to cancel a Claude subscription.
What I'd do as a student
I'd start on the free plan and email my university's IT team the same day to ask whether there's a Claude for Education licence. If there is, you get higher limits than individual plans without paying a thing yourself. If there isn't, use free until you hit its limits on real coursework, then decide on Pro a month at a time.
Skip any site promising a Claude student code. Anthropic says it has no standing discounts and its own support team can't issue coupons, so a code on a third-party site isn't an Anthropic offer. Watch Anthropic's official channels instead, and remember most promotions only work for first-time paid users.
Plans and prices change, so check Anthropic's help centre for the latest; everything here is as of Nov 2026.
If you're weighing which AI subscriptions your team really needs, that's the kind of AI enablement I help with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
