A PTCB app helps you prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam with practice questions, flashcards and mock exams on your phone. Some give you free questions every day, some work offline and some focus on lowering exam stress. Ten apps follow, in no particular order.
Most pharmacy technicians study around shifts, training or family, so an app that fits into a break is often the only realistic option. The trick is choosing one that matches how the real exam works, not just one with a big question count.
The ten apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the app's own App Store listing, read this week. If certification is your route into remote work later, my guide to finding remote pharmacy technician jobs covers what comes next.
PTCB apps at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each app's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing names a free app, a free version, a free tier or free content. Trial only means a time-limited trial or preview. Not stated means the listing I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the app's own page before you subscribe.

What PTCB says about the exam itself
PTCB, which runs the exam, says the PTCE is computer-based with 90 multiple-choice questions. Only 80 are scored, and the 10 unscored questions are placed randomly and aren't identified, so you can't tell which ones count.
It also says to allow 2 hours: a 5-minute tutorial, a 1 hour and 50-minute exam and a 5-minute survey. That's why timed mock exams matter more than untimed drilling, and why every question deserves your full effort.

Eligibility comes before the app
Before you can sit the PTCE, PTCB says you need to complete a PTCB-recognized education or training program, or have at least 500 hours of work experience as a pharmacy technician. Check that first, because no app can make you eligible.
Once you're eligible, an app is a good way to build steady recall of drug names, calculations and pharmacy law, which is where most of the memorising sits.
For another healthcare certification, try CNA exam apps.
A four-week practice plan
- Week one: take a short diagnostic quiz and note your weakest topics.
- Week two: drill those topics daily in short sessions.
- Week three: start timed sets at the real exam pace.
- Week four: take two full mock exams, then review every missed question.
- The day before: light review only, then rest.

My plain advice on PTCB apps
Confirm your eligibility with PTCB, then start with one of the apps that gives you free daily questions to see whether its style suits you. Move to timed practice early, because the real exam runs on a clock and you won't know which questions are unscored.
Keep a short list of the drugs and calculations you keep missing, and look at it every day. If you're also weighing roles beyond the pharmacy counter, my guide to remote roles outside the pharmacy shows where the field can lead.
