The best AI copywriting tools draft ads, sales pages, emails and social posts in seconds, then help you shape the words around your brand and your customer. Some focus on ad and sales copy, while others have grown into broader marketing platforms with agents and workflows. Nine options follow in no particular order.
A blank page is the slowest part of marketing, because it eats hours you don't have. AI copywriting tools are best at getting you past it, giving you a first draft you can make sound like you.
One thing surprised me while reading their sites this week: many former copywriting apps now describe themselves as agent platforms, search tools or go-to-market systems. The nine below still help with copy, listed alphabetically and in no particular order. For prompts you can use anywhere, see my ChatGPT prompts for copywriting.

What the ASA says about AI-written ads
Here's the rule every business using AI for ad copy should know. The ASA and CAP, which set and enforce the UK advertising codes, say the code is media-neutral: if an ad falls within their scope, the rules apply regardless of how the ad was created. They judge ads on how consumers will interpret them, not on the tool that wrote them.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
So AI can draft the words, but every claim in your ad is still yours. If a tool writes that you're the fastest or the best, you'll need to be able to prove it, exactly as if you'd written it yourself.
Copy tools, content platforms and marketing agents
Some tools focus on short copy: ads, headlines, product descriptions and emails, often with ready-made templates. Others are content platforms that write longer articles and help with SEO. A third group has become marketing agent platforms that run whole workflows across sales and marketing.
A small business owner writing their own ads usually wants templates and speed. A marketing team producing content every day benefits from brand voice controls, approvals and workflows.
Questions to ask before you choose an AI copywriting tool
- Can it learn and keep my brand voice?
- Does it have templates for the copy I write most?
- Can I give it facts about my product so it doesn't invent claims?
- Does it work inside the tools I already use?
- Can my team share and approve drafts?
- Who owns the copy it produces?
Signs your AI copy needs a human edit
- It could be about any business. Add specifics only you have.
- It makes claims you can't prove. Cut or soften them.
- Every sentence is the same length. Vary the rhythm.
- It doesn't sound like you. Read it aloud and rewrite.

My plain advice on choosing an AI copywriting tool
Feed it before you ask it to write. Give the tool your best-performing ads, a few customer reviews in their own words and a short list of things you'd never say. You'll get drafts that sound far closer to you, and you'll spend less time rewriting robotic sentences.
Then edit every draft out loud. If it doesn't sound like something you'd say to a client over coffee, change it. My hook, body and call to action ad copy template is a simple structure to check AI drafts against.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI copywriting tool?
An AI copywriting tool drafts marketing copy such as ads, headlines, emails, product descriptions and sales pages from a short brief or prompt.
Are there free AI copywriting tools?
Some tools name a free plan, and others offer trials. The free plan column above shows what each tool's own site says.
Do UK advertising rules apply to AI-written ads?
Yes. The ASA and CAP say their code is media-neutral, so the rules apply regardless of how an ad was created.
Can AI write in my brand voice?
Many tools can learn your brand voice from examples, though you'll still want to edit drafts so they sound natural.
Will AI copywriting replace copywriters?
It speeds up first drafts, but strategy, customer insight and judgement still come from people.
How do I stop AI inventing claims?
Give the tool your real product facts and proof points, and check every claim before you publish.
