How to Unfollow Someone on Snapchat (and Follow Them Again)

To unfollow someone on Snapchat, press and hold on their Story and tap Added, which switches the follow off. To clear several at once, tap the three dots at the top right of the Stories screen, tap Manage Accounts I Follow, then tap Edit and remove the accounts you no longer want.

That works for public accounts you follow. If the person is a friend, unfollowing isn't the right tool, because friends on Snapchat are a two-way connection that you remove rather than unfollow.

Below you'll find each route, how to cancel a paid Creator Subscription, and how to follow someone again if you change your mind. Everything comes from Snapchat's Support pages, read in October 2026.

Following compared with being friends on Snapchat

Snapchat's help page puts it simply: a friend is a two-way relationship, and a follower is one-way. With a Public Profile, people can follow you, or you can follow them, without being friends.

ConnectionHow it worksHow you end it
FriendBoth of you added each otherRemove them as a friend
Following a public accountYou follow, they don't have to follow backTap Added on their Story, or remove them in Manage Accounts I Follow
Creator SubscriptionA paid subscription to a creator's extra contentCancel it in Settings, Creator Subscriptions, Billing

How to unfollow someone on Snapchat from their Story

  1. Go to the Stories screen.
  2. Find the account's Story.
  3. Press and hold on the Story.
  4. Tap Added. That stops you following the account.

You'll stop seeing their Stories pushed to you as a follower. Snapchat doesn't say it tells the account, and nothing in its help pages suggests a notification goes out.

How to unfollow several accounts at once

  1. On the Stories screen, tap the three dots at the top right.
  2. Tap Manage Accounts I Follow.
  3. Tap Edit in the top right corner.
  4. Remove the accounts you don't want to follow any more.

The same screen has a bell icon next to each account. If you like an account but not the alerts, tap the bell to turn its notifications off and keep following.

How to check who you're following

Snapchat shows your connections in tabs. Tap your Bitmoji or Story icon to open My Account, tap View All under Friends and Followers, then switch between the Friends, Following and Followers tabs. If you don't have a Public Profile yourself, you'll only see Friends and Following.

How to cancel a Creator Subscription on Snapchat

If you searched for how to unsubscribe on Snapchat, this is probably what you mean. A Creator Subscription is a paid subscription that gives you direct Snaps, subscriber-only Stories and priority replies from a creator.

  1. Open Settings in Snapchat.
  2. Tap Creator Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Billing.
  4. Tap the creator's subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription.

Snapchat says you keep the benefits until the end of your billing cycle, then the subscription expires. You can't cancel from your Profile, only from Settings, and the Billing option only shows if you've subscribed to a creator before.

Refunds don't go through Snapchat. Its help page says payments are processed by the app store you used, so you contact Apple for an iPhone or iPad subscription and Google for Android, and Snapchat Support can't process those refunds. If it's Snapchat+ you want to stop, that's a different subscription, and my guide to cancelling Snapchat+ covers it.

How to follow someone on Snapchat

Following is the same move in reverse. Snapchat's steps for a Story are:

  1. Press and hold on the account's Story.
  2. Tap Add to start following.

Snapchat says you'll then see the Story in the Discover section, and you may see more Stories like it. To find someone first, tap the magnifying glass at the top of the screen and type their name or username. My guide to finding someone on Snapchat covers the other routes, such as Snapcodes and contacts.

One thing to know about Public Profiles. Snapchat's Add Friends page says that if you subscribe to a Public Profile, you're adding that person as a friend, and they can add you back. So subscribing isn't always as one-way as it sounds.

When to remove, block or mute instead

  • If the person is a friend and you want them gone from your list, remove them as a friend rather than unfollowing.
  • If they're bothering you, block them. My guide to blocking someone on Snapchat explains what they'll see.
  • If you only want fewer alerts, use the bell in Manage Accounts I Follow and keep following.

What you lose when you cancel a Creator Subscription

Before you cancel, it helps to know what the subscription gave you. Snapchat's help page lists the benefits:

  • Direct Snaps from the creator, which arrive in your Chat feed. An unopened subscription Snap stays available until you open it.
  • Subscriber-only Stories, marked with a padlock icon and a blue Story ring, mixed in with the creator's public Story.
  • Priority replies, so your replies to the creator's public Stories sit higher on their list while they're visible.

Snapchat also points out that creators can see if you replay or screenshot subscriber Snaps. Worth knowing whether you stay subscribed or not.

My verdict

Unfollowing on Snapchat is quick once you know where it lives: press and hold, tap Added, done. For a tidy-up, Manage Accounts I Follow is the better screen. Just don't mix it up with Creator Subscriptions. Unfollowing doesn't stop a paid subscription. Cancel that in Settings, or you'll keep paying until you do.
