To remove a follower on TikTok, tap Profile, then Followers, tap the More actions button next to the person and choose Remove this follower. You can also go to their profile, tap the Share button at the top and tap Remove this follower. They stop being one of your followers, without you having to block them.
That's the quick answer. What most people want to know next is whether the person can just follow again, and what else they can do if someone keeps coming back. That depends mainly on whether your account is public or private.
Below are both methods, what removing a follower changes, and the settings that work alongside it. It's all based on TikTok's Support pages, read in October 2026.
Remove a follower from your follower list
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap Followers.
- Next to the follower you want to remove, tap the More actions button.
- Tap Remove this follower.
Remove a follower from their profile
- In the TikTok app, go to the person's profile.
- Tap the Share button at the top.
- Tap Remove this follower.
The second route is handy when you spot someone in your comments and don't want to scroll through a long follower list to find them.
Both routes work one person at a time. TikTok's help doesn't describe a way to remove followers in bulk, so if you're tidying a long list, start with the accounts that worry you most and leave the obvious spam to TikTok's own clean-up.
Remove, block or go private: which to use
| You want to | Best option |
|---|---|
| Take someone off your follower list quietly | Remove this follower |
| Stop someone seeing and contacting you | Block them |
| Keep comments to people you've accepted | A private account with comments set to Followers |
| Stop one person's posts showing in your feed | Unfollow them, or mute them |
Removing is the lightest touch. If you're dealing with harassment, blocking is the stronger tool, and TikTok's Followers and Following help section covers blocking, muting and finding your blocked list alongside removing followers.
Can a removed follower follow you again?
TikTok's removal steps don't say that removing someone stops them from following you again, so don't rely on it as a barrier. If you need one, blocking is the tool TikTok lists right alongside removing followers. And if you go private, TikTok's comment settings let you limit comments to Followers, which only applies to private accounts.
Limit what followers can do instead
Sometimes you don't need to remove anyone. You just need fewer comments from people you don't know. In Settings and privacy, go to Privacy, then Comments, then Allow comments from. Choose Everyone (public accounts only), Followers (private accounts only) or Friends, which means followers you follow back.
You can also filter comments with keywords, turn on Filter unwanted comments, or use Creator Care Mode to hide offensive comments until you approve them. These protect your videos without touching your follower count.
Why TikTok removes some followers for you
If your follower count drops and you didn't remove anyone, TikTok may have done it. Its Support page says it removes inauthentic followers and likes to reduce spam-like behaviour, and keeps improving how it detects and removes them. So a sudden dip isn't always people leaving. It can be fake accounts being cleared out.
If you've been tempted by apps that promise followers, that's a good reason not to bother: TikTok actively removes inauthentic engagement, and you'd be paying for numbers that disappear.
Cleaning up a business account's followers
If you use TikTok for your business, it's tempting to go through your list and remove every account that looks like spam. That's fine for the odd obvious one, but you don't need to hunt them all down: TikTok says it already works to detect and remove spam-like accounts and engagement. Spend the time on comments instead, where filters and Creator Care Mode make a visible difference to how your videos look to customers.

It's also worth knowing that TikTok recommends accounts to people. If you'd rather not see a particular account suggested to you, TikTok says you can remove it from your suggested list to let it know you're not interested.
Hiding who follows you
If what bothers you is other people seeing your follower list, rather than one follower in particular, that's a privacy setting rather than a removal. My guide on how to hide followers on TikTok covers it.
When removing isn't enough
- If someone is harassing you, block them and report the account. See how to report someone on TikTok.
- If the same person keeps coming back on a public account, think about switching to private for a while.
- If it's their videos you don't want to see, unfollow them. TikTok says unfollowing can remove their posts from your Following feed or Friends tab.
My verdict
Use Remove this follower when you just want someone off your list, from your Followers screen or their profile's Share menu. Pair it with comment settings if strangers are the problem, go private if you want to approve every follower, and block anyone who makes you feel unsafe. Removing is quiet and quick, but it isn't a wall.
