There's no official Malaysian rate: what YouTube pays per 1,000 views is your own RPM, which depends on viewer location, language, niche and video length. Malaysia is fully inside the YouTube Partner Program, and it's one of the few countries where creators can also earn Shopping affiliate commission, with payouts by wire or cheque.
Malaysian YouTubers have one advantage that creators in most countries don't, and it rarely comes up when people ask what a thousand views pays. Before I get to it, the honest bit: YouTube doesn't publish a Malaysian rate per 1,000 views, so any exact ringgit figure you see online is someone's estimate. What follows is what Google itself documents for creators in Malaysia, and how to see your real number.
The YouTube Shopping edge for Malaysian channels
Malaysia is one of a small group of countries where channels can join the YouTube Shopping affiliate programme. Google's list names the United States, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brazil, Taiwan and Japan. Canada and Australia aren't on it, and no African country is either.
That means a Malaysian creator can tag products from other brands in videos and earn commission on sales, on top of ad revenue. For review, beauty, tech, home and parenting channels, this can matter more than the ad share, because a viewer who buys is worth far more than a viewer who just watches. You'll need to meet YouTube's subscriber threshold for the Partner Program first.
Malaysia's place in the YouTube Partner Program
Malaysia appears on YouTube's Partner Program availability list and on the expanded programme list. So there are two ways in:
- Expanded tier: 500 subscribers and 3 valid public uploads in the last 90 days, with 3,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days.
- Ad revenue tier: 1,000 subscribers with 4,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers with 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days.
Either way, you link one active AdSense for YouTube account, set up from YouTube Studio.
Working out your ringgit per 1,000 views
RPM is YouTube's name for what you earn per 1,000 views once its revenue share is taken out, counting every view, monetised or not. CPM is the advertiser's price per 1000 ad impressions before that split. Google says CPM rises and falls with the season, the countries your viewers are in, and the ad formats available.
For Malaysian creators, language and audience are the biggest swing factors I see. A channel in Bahasa Malaysia speaking to local viewers sells a different audience from an English-language tech channel watched across Southeast Asia, the UK and the US. Neither is wrong, but they'll produce different RPMs.
What tends to lift RPM for creators in Malaysia
- Topics where buyers spend: finance, property, gadgets, education and business tools.
- Longer videos that can carry mid-roll ads.
- A share of viewers in higher-spending ad markets, if your content travels.
- Advertiser-friendly videos, so fewer views go unmonetised.
- Uploading your strongest content ahead of big shopping seasons.
Your own number lives in the Revenue tab of YouTube Analytics. Watch it month by month rather than comparing with a friend's channel in a different niche.
How payouts reach a Malaysian bank
Google's payment methods table for AdSense for YouTube in Malaysia lists two options: cheque and wire transfer. EFT isn't available in Malaysia, and neither is Hyperwallet. Many creators prefer wire to waiting for a paper cheque.
Something to note: Google's AdSense threshold table has no row for the Malaysian ringgit (MYR). The standard payment threshold on that table is 100 US dollars, and address verification kicks in at 10 US dollars or the local equivalent. Your payments profile in AdSense shows which currency and threshold apply to your account, so check there rather than relying on forum posts.
US tax withholding for Malaysian YouTubers
Google withholds US tax on earnings from viewers in the United States, not on your whole income, provided you've filled in your tax info. Malaysia isn't on the IRS list of countries with a US income tax treaty, and YouTube's own example shows that a creator who submits tax info but isn't treaty-eligible has 30% withheld on US viewer earnings.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Skip the form and it's worse: an individual account can have 24% of total worldwide earnings withheld. So fill it in, even if most of your viewers are in Malaysia. For anything to do with your Malaysian tax return, check with a local accountant; I don't give tax advice.
Shorts, Super Chat and memberships in Malaysia
Shorts revenue comes from a monthly pool, divided by engaged views in each country, and monetising creators keep 45% of their allocation. Shorts are brilliant for growth, but expect a lower return per view than on long videos.
Super Chat and Super Stickers, channel memberships and YouTube Premium revenue are all available in Malaysia. Add Shopping affiliate commission, and a Malaysian creator has one of the fuller toolkits YouTube offers anywhere.
If you want to compare, I've broken down how Australian creators get paid and the Canadian picture, both of which lack the Shopping affiliate option. And if you're building a channel from scratch, these YouTube channels that teach SEO well are good models of search-friendly video.

Yes. Malaysia is on YouTube's Partner Program availability list and the expanded programme list, so Malaysian creators can earn from ads, fan funding and Premium once they qualify.
How much is 1,000 views on YouTube in ringgit?
There's no official Malaysian rate. Your RPM depends on your viewers' locations, language, niche, video length and season. You'll see your own figure in YouTube Analytics.
How does YouTube pay creators in Malaysia?
Google lists cheque and wire transfer for AdSense for YouTube accounts in Malaysia. EFT isn't offered, so most creators set up wire transfer to a local bank.
Can Malaysian YouTubers earn affiliate commission on YouTube?
Yes. Malaysia is on the YouTube Shopping affiliate programme's country list, so eligible channels can tag other brands' products and earn commission.
Does Malaysia have a US tax treaty for YouTube earnings?
Malaysia isn't on the IRS treaty list, and YouTube's example shows 30% withheld on US viewer earnings for creators without treaty eligibility. Speak to a Malaysian accountant about your own tax.
