Sponsored Blog Posts or Guest Posts: Which Should You Be Doing?

Having a blog is about far more than just jotting your thoughts down and posting it on your site.

Creating a blogging strategy is essential.

Being consistent is necessary.

And getting out of your lonesome blogging bubble is also crucial.

Building relationships with other bloggers is something many people neglect.

It’s networking for website owners and entrepreneurs.

And it’s a fantastic opportunity to expand your reach…

Find new clients…

Make more sales…

And increase your own audience.

But which one is the most efficient way of doing that –

Sponsored blog posts or guest posts?

What’s the Difference?

Here’s a quick overview of each.

A sponsored blog post is when someone else—

A brand, company, blogger, etc—

Pays you to write about their product or service on your own blog.

A guest post is when you write a blog post or article…

To be posted on someone else’s blog.

Let’s dig into the details of each.

Sponsored Blog Posts

Sponsored blog posts are a great trick to make a bit of money off of your blog.

They’re also an excellent way to build trust with brands…

And boost your own credibility.

I love sponsored blog posts for many reasons.

One, the obvious perk of getting paid for writing a blog post.

Two, I get to try out and be honest about new tools, products, and services.

And three, it’s great for traffic if the brand shares it on their social media.

Pros:

  • Getting paid to write blogs
  • Learning opportunity for tools, products, etc
  • Builds relationships with brands
  • Can help with traffic
  • Adds to your own blog

Cons:

  • Can be tricky to find people to pitch
  • May find it difficult to be honest if the tools aren’t great

Guest Blog Posts

Guest blog posts are posts you write for someone else’s site.

Their primary purpose is to basically get their traffic to your website.

When their readers check out your post…

There’s a chance that they’ll click on your website link.

They’re also an excellent way to showcase your knowledge and credibility in your field to a different audience.

In some cases, you may have to pay to have a guest post placed on someone’s website.

You’re basically paying to rent their audience’s attention for a while!

It’s up to you whether or not this is worthwhile.

Pros:

  • “Renting” some big audiences’ attention
  • You can often choose your own topics
  • Great for getting traffic back to your site
  • Excellent for getting high-quality backlinks

Cons:

  • Uncertainty over the long-term effect
  • May be required to pay a fee
  • Not everyone accepts guest posts

Which One is Best?

There’s no true answer here.

Both sponsored posts and guest posts have their place…

And they’re both valuable, for different reasons.

Ultimately, it depends on your goals.

I highly recommend doing both.

  1. You’ll make a bit of extra money with sponsored posts.
  2. You’ll reach out to a different audience with guest posts.

Final Verdict: Sponsored Blog Posts or Guests Posts?

My verdict: both.

There’s no real way to choose just one between sponsored blog posts or guest posts.

It’s like choosing between eating or drinking!

They’re different.

Both can be extremely valuable if done right.

It can be a little more tricky to get sponsored posts, but in the meantime, check out my list of blogs that accept guest posts!
