The safe social media image sizes in 2026 are 1080 by 1350 pixels for an Instagram post, 1080 by 1920 for Stories, Reels, TikTok and Shorts, 1280 by 720 for a YouTube thumbnail, and 1200 by 630 for a Facebook or LinkedIn link image. Choose an image below and this checker reads its pixel size in your browser, then tells you which placements it fits, which will crop it and which will blur it. Nothing is uploaded.
Your image never leaves your device: the browser reads the pixel size locally and compares it with every spec in the table below.

The three mistakes that cost the most
Posting a landscape image to Instagram, which shrinks it to a strip; exporting a Story at 1080 by 1350 and letting the app crop the headline off the top; and uploading a 640-pixel-wide thumbnail to YouTube, which the TV app stretches. The checker catches all three before you post. If your image is the right shape but too small, re-export from the original, not from a screenshot.
Once the size is right, use my Instagram character counter for the caption, the hashtag checker for the tags, and the best time to post calculator for the slot.

Frequently asked questions
What is the correct Instagram post size?
1080 by 1350 pixels for a portrait post (4:5), which takes the most screen space in the feed. Square is 1080 by 1080 and landscape 1080 by 566. Stories and Reels are 1080 by 1920.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?
1280 by 720 pixels, 16:9, under 2 MB, as JPG, PNG or GIF. Anything smaller is upscaled and looks soft on a TV screen.
What is the Instagram Story size?
1080 by 1920 pixels, a 9:16 ratio. Keep text and faces out of the top and bottom 250 pixels, where the profile bar and reply box sit.
Does this tool upload my image?
No. The browser reads the file's width and height on your device and nothing is sent to a server. Close the tab and the image is gone.
Why does the right size still look blurry after posting?
Compression. Export at the recommended size or exactly double it, keep JPG quality at 80 or above, and avoid uploading a screenshot of an image, which compresses it twice.
