Part-Time Remote Jobs: What Pays Well in 2026 (And How to Land One Fast)

The short version: Part-time remote jobs are plentiful in 2025, but the well-paying ones cluster in a handful of fields: tech support, marketing, bookkeeping, customer success, and content. Knowing where to look and how to position yourself cuts the job search from months to weeks.

Why part-time remote work is having a moment right now

I have hired part-time remote workers for my own business, I have worked part-time remotely myself during the years I was rebuilding, and I have watched the market shift dramatically since 2020. Here is what I can tell you plainly: companies have stopped treating part-time remote as a favour they are doing you. It is now a deliberate workforce strategy.

Startups use it to stretch runway. Agencies use it to staff up for campaigns without committing to full-time headcount. Mid-size companies use it to plug specialist gaps their full-time staff cannot fill. That shift is good news for you if you have a skill they need.

The bad news is that the low-quality end of this market is flooded. Data entry, basic transcription, survey work - these pay badly and the supply of people willing to do them is essentially infinite. I am not going to waste your time on those. This post is about the jobs where the hourly rate makes it worth your while.

The part-time remote roles that pay real money in 2025

Fractional marketing work

This is the field I know best. Businesses need someone who can run their email marketing, manage their social ads, or own their SEO, but they do not need that person for 40 hours a week. A fractional CMO or senior marketing contractor typically charges anywhere from £50 to £150 per hour in the UK market, or $60 to $180 in the US. Even at the lower end, ten hours a week is a solid side income or a sustainable primary one if you stack two or three clients.

Platforms like Toptal, Mayple, and even LinkedIn ProFinder connect businesses to fractional marketers. For the UK specifically, I have seen strong demand come through Growth Mentor and direct outreach to founders on LinkedIn.

Bookkeeping and accounts support

Cloud accounting software has made bookkeeping almost entirely location-independent. Xero and QuickBooks are the two dominant platforms. If you hold an AAT qualification in the UK, or a QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification anywhere, you can charge £25 to £45 per hour for part-time remote bookkeeping work. Many small business owners need maybe five to eight hours a month, so you can serve a lot of clients without working full-time hours.

Bark.com is worth trying for this in the UK. In the US, Belay Solutions specifically hires remote bookkeepers and virtual assistants on a part-time basis, with starting pay around $15 to $20 per hour for VAs and higher for qualified bookkeepers.

Customer success and onboarding

SaaS companies in particular need people to onboard new users, answer questions, and reduce churn. This does not always require a full-time hire. Customer success roles at smaller SaaS companies often run 20 hours a week, paying $20 to $35 per hour on the lower end, or more if you have specific industry experience.

Jobboards worth checking for these: We Work Remotely, Remote OK, and FlexJobs (FlexJobs charges a small subscription fee but the quality of listings is higher than most free boards).

Technical writing and content

Companies with complex products - software, fintech, legal tech, medical devices - constantly need clear documentation, blog content, and case studies. Technical writers who understand a specific industry can charge £40 to £80 per hour. General content writers are paid less, typically £20 to £40 per hour for experienced work, but volume can make up the difference.

Clearscope, Contently, and Scripted are platforms where content professionals pick up part-time remote work. ClearVoice is another. For direct clients, cold outreach to content managers at B2B SaaS companies still works in 2025.

IT and technical support

Help desk and tier-one IT support roles have moved heavily remote. CompTIA A+ certification opens most of these doors. Pay ranges from $18 to $28 per hour at the entry to mid level. Robert Half Technology and Insight Global both place remote technical support contractors regularly. In the UK, Reed Technology and Hays IT are the equivalents worth approaching.

Where most people go wrong in their search

They apply to everything and tailor nothing. I made this mistake myself when I was picking up contract work during my harder years. You send out 40 applications, hear back from three, and feel like the market is against you.

The jobs that pay well are the ones where the hiring manager can see within 30 seconds that you specifically understand their problem. That means your application mentions their product. It mentions a result you got that looks like the result they need. It does not mention that you are "passionate about learning" or "a strong communicator." Every applicant says that.

One thing I tell every person who asks me about freelance or contract work: your first client or your first remote role almost always comes from someone who already knows you, or who is one degree of separation away. Before you spend a single hour on job boards, write a short note to every former colleague, client, or employer explaining what you are now available to do. This is not begging. It is giving them useful information.

The practical setup that makes you hireable

Remote hiring managers do a quick mental checklist when they look at you. Here is what they are checking:

  • Do you have a reliable, professional-looking setup? This means a decent camera, a clean background, and a wired internet connection or very strong wifi. A £60 Logitech C920 webcam still holds up in 2025.
  • Do you respond quickly and clearly in writing? Most remote work is async. Your written communication is how you are judged.
  • Do you have a portfolio or proof of work online? Even a simple free Notion page with case studies beats having nothing.
  • Can you manage your own time without being chased? This is the real filter for remote work. If you need daily check-ins to stay on task, remote contracts end badly.

If you are in the UK and want part-time remote work with employment protections rather than freelance uncertainty, look at companies that have formal flexible working policies. Lloyds Banking Group, BT, and HSBC all advertise part-time remote roles regularly and are large enough to have real HR infrastructure. They pay less than specialist contractors but offer stability.

The Israel and US angles if you are reading from there

I work with clients in the US and English-speaking Israel, so I know these markets a bit. In Israel, the English-language content and marketing market for remote work is underserved. If you are based there and speak fluent English, positioning yourself for UK or US-based clients is often easier than competing locally. Time zone overlap with Europe is good, and the quality of tech and marketing talent is high.

In the US, the sheer volume of remote job listings is both an advantage and a problem. The boards are noisy. Your best filter is to target companies with a known remote-first culture: GitLab, Automattic, Buffer, Basecamp, and similar have all posted part-time remote roles at various points and treat remote workers as first-class rather than an afterthought.

One thing the other articles on this topic will not tell you

Part-time remote work is structurally better for certain people and structurally worse for others, and nobody says this plainly. If you are a parent with school-aged children, a carer, someone rebuilding after burnout, or someone with a health situation that makes full-time hours difficult, part-time remote work is not a compromise. It is the right structure for your life right now, and you should own that rather than apologise for it in interviews.

But if you are treating part-time remote as a passive income fantasy - thinking you will clock a few hours a week and earn a full-time salary - the maths does not work at most skill levels. The exception is high-end consulting or fractional executive work, where a few hours does pay well. Get the skills first. The flexibility follows.

What I Pay Part-Time Remote Contractors (And Why the Rate Gap Is So Wide)

I have hired part-time remote help for social media management, content writing and email marketing for over a decade, and the pay range I see for the same job title is enormous. Right now I have a part-time social media manager working 15 hours a week for one of my clients at $28 an hour, and a different contractor doing near-identical work for another client at $65 an hour. Same platforms, same deliverables, same time commitment. The difference was not the resume. It was the trial project.

Every serious application I take seriously includes a short paid or unpaid test task, usually something I can review in under 20 minutes: write three LinkedIn posts for a real product page, or build a one-week content calendar from a brief I give them. The $65 an hour person turned in copy that matched my client's actual voice and asked two sharp questions about audience before starting. The $28 an hour applicants either skipped the questions or sent generic templates. If you are job hunting, ask the hiring manager if there is a paid trial task, and treat it like the interview, not busywork.

Here is a number most listings will not tell you: for part-time remote roles under 20 hours a week, I have found that candidates who quote a project-based rate instead of an hourly one get hired faster and often paid more. When someone tells me "$400 for this month's content calendar and four posts a week" instead of "$20 an hour," it signals they have done this before and understand the scope, which reduces my perceived risk as the person paying.

My honest opinion after reviewing hundreds of applications: a strong portfolio link matters less than a two-line email that references something specific about the company you are applying to. I can tell within the first sentence whether someone mass-applied to fifty listings or read my job post. That single detail, more than years of experience, is what moves an application from the "maybe" pile to a same-week interview.

Frequently asked questions

What part-time remote jobs pay the most per hour?

Fractional marketing and CMO roles, technical writing for regulated industries, and remote bookkeeping with accounting qualifications consistently pay the most. In the UK, rates of £40 to £150 per hour are realistic for experienced practitioners. In the US, $35 to $180 per hour depending on seniority and specialism.

Which job boards are best for part-time remote work?

FlexJobs and We Work Remotely have the highest concentration of legitimate part-time remote listings. Remote OK is good for tech roles. For the UK specifically, Bark.com works well for service-based freelancers and LinkedIn remains the strongest direct-outreach channel for professional part-time remote work.

Do you need specific qualifications to get a well-paid part-time remote job?

For bookkeeping, an AAT qualification or QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification helps significantly. For IT support, CompTIA A+ is the standard entry point. For marketing and content work, a strong portfolio of results matters more than formal qualifications. Demonstrable outcomes beat credentials in most remote hiring decisions.

How many hours a week counts as part-time remote work?

Most part-time remote roles run between 10 and 25 hours per week. Some SaaS customer success and content roles sit at 20 hours as a fixed contract. Fractional consulting is often less structured, billed by deliverable or retainer rather than a set number of hours, and can be as few as five to ten hours per month per client.
