Zambia and Facebook Monetisation: The Country List

You can't join Facebook Content Monetization from Zambia, because Meta's country list doesn't include it, even though neighbours Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo are on it. Brand deals and affiliate links don't need that list, so there are still ways to earn.

If you're running a Facebook Page from Lusaka, Kitwe or Ndola and you've been told that Facebook will pay you for your videos, the first thing to do is check one list. Meta publishes it, it's short on surprises, and for Zambia it settles the main question. I'll show you what it says, then what a Zambian Page can sensibly do about it.

What Meta's country list says about Zambia

The answer is no. Meta's availability page for Facebook Content Monetization names the countries and territories where the programme runs, and Zambia is missing. Two of Zambia's neighbours are named, though: the Democratic Republic of Congo to the north and Tanzania to the northeast. Both appear on the list.

So a Zambian Page can sit a short drive from creators who are eligible and still be outside the programme itself. That feels unfair, and I understand the frustration, but the rule is Meta's, and it's written down. I'd rather tell you that than let you spend months chasing a button that isn't there.

English is the one thing going your way

Language is a separate check, and here Zambia is in a better position. English is Zambia's official language, and English is on Meta's Content Monetization language list. If the country list ever expands to include Zambia, your English-language reels won't be held back by language. Posts in Bemba, Nyanja or Tonga are another matter: I didn't find them on Meta's list, so I wouldn't plan an eligible series around them.

Kwacha, banks and the payout question

The Zambian kwacha, code ZMW, is issued by the Bank of Zambia and divided into 100 ngwee. That matters because any payment from an overseas platform will have to be turned into kwacha somewhere along the line, usually by your bank or mobile money provider, and each charges differently.

I couldn't confirm Meta's payout methods, minimum payout or tax paperwork for Zambia, because Meta doesn't publish country-level payout details for a country outside the programme. If you want a quick and honest test of any claim you read online, ask: where is the Meta page that says this? If nobody can point to it, treat it as a rumour.

Zambia against Meta's other creator tools

Stars deserve a closer look. Meta says a creator earns 1 cent for each Star a fan sends, and to qualify you need 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days, and you must live in a country where Stars is available. Because Meta's page doesn't list those countries, the only reliable check is whether Stars appears in your own professional dashboard. If it doesn't, nothing you do on the Page will switch it on.

Getting your Page ready, so you aren't starting late

Think of this as groundwork that costs nothing. When Meta does extend a programme to a new country, the Pages that benefit first are usually the ones with a steady history already built. Here's what I'd do:

  • Post original work only. Meta excludes content where a copyright holder wins a claim, and reposted clips are the usual cause.
  • Keep reels over 10 seconds, since shorter ones can't qualify in the programmes where Meta pays on reels.
  • Build an email list or WhatsApp group off Facebook, so your audience belongs to you and not to one app.
  • Pitch Zambian businesses directly. A restaurant, a school or a salon doesn't need Meta's permission to pay you for a video.

Other places Zambian creators can earn

If you make video, you aren't limited to Facebook. I've set out the facts for YouTube in my guide on what YouTube pays in Zambia, and for short clips in my piece on getting paid on TikTok in Zambia. Neither is a promise of income, but both give you a documented route when Facebook has none.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

It's also worth reading my companion page for a neighbour in the same position, monetising a Facebook Page in Zimbabwe, because a lot of the same advice applies.

Warning signs to watch for

Whenever a platform closes a door, someone offers a key for a price. Meta says its invitations arrive through the Facebook app, email, Meta Business Suite and the Professional dashboard, and it warns creators about suspicious links. If a stranger in Messenger offers to get your Zambian Page monetised, asks for a fee, or wants your login, stop and block them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I monetise my Facebook Page in Zambia?

Not through Facebook Content Monetization, because Zambia isn't on Meta's list of eligible countries. You can still earn through brand deals and affiliate links.

Is Zambia on the Facebook monetisation country list?

No. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania are listed, but Zambia isn't. Meta can change the list, so check its availability page now and then.

Does Facebook accept English-language content for monetisation?

Yes, English is on Meta's language list, and English is Zambia's official language. The problem for Zambia is the country, not the language.

Can Zambian creators use Facebook Subscriptions?

Subscriptions are open to Pages in 37 listed countries, and Zambia isn't one of them. Meta says Subscriptions elsewhere are invite-only.

How would money reach me in kwacha?

Meta hasn't published payout details for Zambia. In general, foreign payments are converted into kwacha by your bank or mobile money provider, so ask what they charge.
