How Much Does YouTube Pay per 1,000 Views in Zambia?

Right now YouTube pays nothing per 1,000 views in Zambia, because Zambia isn't on YouTube's list of places where you can join the YouTube Partner Program, which is the only way to share in ad revenue. Zambian creators can still earn from brand partnerships, their own products and services while they grow, and be ready if YouTube adds the country.

I get this question from Zambian creators more than you'd think, and I'd rather be honest than hopeful. On YouTube's own list of places where the YouTube Partner Program is open, Zambia doesn't appear. That one fact shapes everything else on this page: what ad money you can earn, how it would be paid, and what you can do now so you're ready if that changes.

Zambia isn't on YouTube's Partner Program list

YouTube publishes the countries and regions where you can sign up for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). When I checked it for this guide, Zambia wasn't listed. Zimbabwe and Tanzania, two of its neighbours, are. Kenya and Uganda are on the list too, and both also appear on YouTube's expanded programme list, which lets creators join with fewer subscribers.

Why does this matter so much? One of YouTube's core eligibility rules is that you live in a country or region where YPP is available. So a channel run by a creator living in Zambia can't currently join the programme that shares ad revenue, however many views it gets. YouTube hasn't published a date for adding Zambia, and I won't guess one.

So what does 1,000 views earn a Zambian channel?

From YouTube ads, nothing directly while Zambia sits outside the programme. That's the uncomfortable answer. Views still count for a great deal, though. They grow your subscribers, prove your reach to brands and build the watch history YouTube's systems use to recommend you. If Zambia is added later, a channel that's already grown will be ready on day one.

I'd be wary of anyone who tells you to list a different country on your channel to get round this. YouTube's rule is about where you live, and your AdSense account has to pass identity and address checks before payouts. Misstating your country puts the whole channel at risk.

Kwacha, AdSense and the missing payment route

Zambia's currency is the Zambian kwacha (ZMW), issued by the Bank of Zambia and divided into 100 ngwee. The kwacha doesn't appear in Google's AdSense payment threshold table, and Zambia isn't listed on the AdSense EFT country page or in any of the regional tables on YouTube's page for adding a payment method. In short, there's no documented route today for YouTube ad earnings to land in a Zambian bank account in kwacha.

That's another reason I'd focus your early income on routes you control, where you agree the currency and payment method yourself.

Where Zambian YouTubers can earn right now

None of these depend on YPP, and creators everywhere use them alongside ad revenue:

  • Brand partnerships. Zambian businesses, mobile money providers, banks and retailers all want to reach local audiences. A channel with a clear niche and loyal viewers is a strong pitch, even without huge numbers.
  • Your own products. Guides, templates, classes, coaching or merch let you set the price and get paid in kwacha through the methods you already use.
  • Services. Many creators turn their video skills into paid editing, filming or social media work for local companies.
  • Community support. Some creators ask their most loyal viewers to support them directly outside YouTube.

If you're still choosing a format, I've pulled together channel ideas that don't need you on camera, which suit creators who want to test topics quickly.

How the rate per 1,000 views works, for when Zambia is added

It helps to understand the mechanics now. YouTube calls your earnings per 1,000 views RPM, revenue per mille. It's measured after YouTube's revenue share and includes ads, channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and YouTube Premium revenue. CPM is the advertiser's side: the cost per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube takes its share. RPM counts every view, including ones where no ad played, so it's lower.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

The biggest driver is where your viewers live. Advertisers pay more to reach some audiences than others, so a Zambian channel watched mostly in Zambia would likely earn differently from one with lots of viewers abroad. Niche and video length matter too. YouTube doesn't publish country rates, and I'd treat any website quoting a precise Zambia figure with caution.

Tax: what YouTube documents for creators outside the US

This won't apply until you can join YPP, but it's worth knowing. YouTube asks creators outside the US to submit US tax info and says withholding on earnings from US viewers ranges from 0 to 30%, depending on whether your country has a tax treaty with the US. Zambia doesn't appear on the IRS list of US income tax treaties. Please check your own situation with a local accountant; I can only tell you what YouTube publishes.

A Zambian creator's to-do list

  1. Check YouTube's Partner Program availability page every few months for Zambia.
  2. Grow towards the standard bar of 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views, so you qualify quickly if Zambia is added.
  3. Set up 2-Step Verification on your Google Account now.
  4. Package your audience numbers for brand pitches: views, watch time and where viewers live.
  5. Launch one product or service you can sell in kwacha.

If you'd like to see how a country that is on the list compares, my guide to YouTube earnings for creators in Tanzania walks through the same question for a neighbour where YPP is open.

Frequently asked questions

Is YouTube monetisation available in Zambia?

Not on YouTube's current Partner Program availability list. Zambia isn't listed, and YouTube requires you to live in a country or region where the programme is available.

Can I earn from YouTube in Zambia without YPP?

Yes, through brand partnerships, your own products, services and direct support from viewers. These don't depend on YouTube's ad revenue share.

Should I change my channel country to get monetised?

I wouldn't. YouTube's rule is based on where you live, and AdSense checks identity and address before paying, so misstating your country risks the channel.

Can YouTube pay me in Zambian kwacha?

There's no documented route today. The kwacha isn't in the AdSense threshold table and Zambia isn't in YouTube's payment method tables.

When will YouTube add Zambia to the Partner Program?

YouTube hasn't published a date. Keep growing your channel and check the official availability list regularly.
