A good Looker Studio alternative connects to your marketing and business data, builds dashboards people understand and sends reports on a schedule. Check the connectors you need, how reports are shared, white-label options for clients and whether a free plan or trial covers your accounts. This page lists ten options in no particular order.
Looker Studio is free, flexible and connects easily to Google's own products, which is why so many marketers start there. The frustration usually comes later: connectors for non-Google platforms, slow dashboards with lots of data, and client reports that take hours to tidy each month.
These are ten Looker Studio alternatives in no particular order, sorted alphabetically, from agency reporting tools to business intelligence platforms. Each description comes from the tool's own website, re-checked today. If your reporting eats your week, my piece on reporting automation for time-starved marketers shows where the hours go.

Looker Studio has a new name
Here's the change worth knowing before you compare. Google's own Cloud documentation now opens with a note that Looker Studio is now called Data Studio, which is the name it had years ago. Your reports and links don't stop working because of a rename, but it's a good moment to check which connectors you rely on and who maintains them, because many non-Google connectors are built by third-party partners with their own terms.
Free Looker Studio, or a reporting tool you subscribe to
The free tool wins when your data sits in Google products and you enjoy building dashboards. Specialist tools win when you report on many platforms, manage lots of clients or simply value your time more than the subscription. Count the hours you spend fixing reports each month; that's the number to compare.

Moving client reports off Looker Studio
- List every report, who receives it and how often.
- Note every data source and connector each report uses.
- Rebuild your most-used client report in two shortlisted tools.
- Send both versions to one client and ask which is clearer.
- Move the rest in batches, starting with the simplest.
What a good client report includes
- A one-line summary of what happened and why.
- Three to five key numbers against the previous period.
- One chart per question the client cares about.
- Next steps so the report leads to action.
Most clients read the first screen and stop. Put the summary there. My guide to an easier way to manage marketing reports has more on structuring reports people read.
Automate the data, but write the summary yourself. That's the part clients value, and it's the part no tool can do for you.
Connectors: the part of reporting that breaks
Most reporting headaches start with connectors, the links that pull data from ad platforms, social networks and analytics into your dashboard. When a platform changes its API or a token expires, the chart goes blank and nobody notices until the client does. Ask each tool how it alerts you when a connection fails.
It's also worth checking who builds each connector. A tool's own connectors tend to be maintained alongside the product, while third-party ones can lag behind platform changes. If you rely on a less common platform, test that connector first, before you fall for the dashboard design.
If you work in Microsoft tools, my piece on data visibility for sales teams covers how to share the right numbers without drowning people in dashboards they never open.
Do you make reporting or dashboard software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on choosing a Looker Studio alternative
Stay with the free tool if your data is mostly Google's and your dashboards are stable. Move when connectors break, clients multiply or reporting days stretch into reporting weeks.
Whatever you decide, keep a written list of every report, its data sources and who receives it. That list makes any future move far less painful, and it's useful even if you never switch, because it shows you which reports nobody reads.
