How to Delete Your CapCut Account (And Save Your Projects)

To delete a CapCut account, sign in, open your account settings or Manage account page and choose Delete account. CapCut says this permanently removes your files, edit history and user information, and its Terms say you can't reactivate it or retrieve your data afterwards, so export your projects first.

Deleting an editing account is different from deleting a social profile, because your projects live inside it. Once it's gone, so is the work. I'd never rush this one, and I'd always export anything I might want again before touching the button.

CapCut doesn't publish a long step-by-step article on deleting an account, so this guide pulls together what its account settings page, its Terms of Service and its help centre say, and is upfront about where the exact menu names may differ on your device.

Where to delete your CapCut account

CapCut's account settings page has two options side by side. The first is Delete account, which it describes as permanently deleting all files, edit history and user information associated with the account from CapCut. The second is Deactivate account, which it offers if you want to take a break or leave CapCut temporarily.

CapCut's Terms of Service describe the same thing a little differently. They say you can delete your account through the Manage account page on the Platform. So you may see Account settings in one place and Manage account in another. Both point to the same job: sign in, open your account area, and look for Delete account.

Steps to delete a CapCut account

Because CapCut doesn't give a numbered list, here's the route I'd follow, based on those pages. Menus vary by app version, so treat the labels as a guide.

  1. Sign in to the CapCut account you want to remove.
  2. Open your account settings (on the app this sits behind your profile or the settings menu).
  3. Look for Manage account or Account settings.
  4. Choose Delete account and read what it says before you confirm.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish.

If you can't find the option, CapCut's Terms say there's also a webform for deletion requests. Use that route from CapCut's own site and don't send your login details to anyone.

What happens when you delete your CapCut account

The Terms are clear and blunt on this. Once you choose to delete, you won't be able to reactivate the account, and you won't be able to retrieve any of your account data or content. That includes anything you uploaded, created or edited.

  • Your files, edit history and user information are removed from CapCut.
  • You can't reactivate the account afterwards.
  • You can't get the content back, so export first.

The Terms also tell you to back up anything you value regularly, which is a sensible habit even if you're never planning to leave.

Saving your CapCut projects before you delete

Before you press delete, work through your projects and export the ones that matter. A finished video you've already posted lives on its platform, but your timeline, text styles and cuts exist only in CapCut.

  • Export final versions of videos you may need again.
  • Keep your original footage, which lives on your device or your own storage.
  • Note down font and colour choices if you reuse a look across videos.
  • Save any audio you recorded yourself.

CapCut's help article about its age-requirement prompt backs this up. If an account is flagged and an appeal fails, it says the account will be permanently deleted, and it strongly recommends using the link in the pop-up to download your projects and files first.

Deactivating a CapCut account instead of deleting it

If you only want a break, CapCut's settings page offers Deactivate account as the temporary option. It's described as the choice for taking a break or leaving CapCut for a while, while Delete account is described as permanent. I'd choose deactivation whenever you might come back, because there's no undo on deletion.

If you can't delete your CapCut account

  • Check you're signed in to the right account, since it's easy to have more than one.
  • Look under both Account settings and Manage account, because the Terms and the settings page use different names.
  • Update the app, then try again, as menus change between versions.
  • Try the CapCut website on a computer if the phone app doesn't show the option.
  • Use CapCut's own webform or help centre if the option still doesn't appear.

The Terms say CapCut is only intended for people aged 13 and older, and some regions set a higher minimum age. If you're helping a young person close an account, it's worth checking that page together.

Questions to ask before you close your CapCut account

A quick checklist helps, because deletion is the one step in this process you can't reverse:

  • Are there exported copies of every video I'll want again?
  • Is there anything in a project, such as a script or a caption style, that I haven't saved elsewhere?
  • Would deactivating give me what I need, so I can return later?
  • Am I signed in to the account I mean to delete, and not a second one?

If you answer yes to the first three and the fourth is right, you're ready. Take a screenshot of the delete screen when you reach it, so you've got a record of exactly what CapCut told you.

Closing a CapCut account for business or creator reasons

If your CapCut account was tied to a business, check what depends on it before you delete: client projects, saved templates, brand text styles. Move anything shared somewhere you control first.

Tidying up other accounts at the same time? My guides on deleting your Pinterest account and deleting your Discord account follow the same rule: save what you need first, then close it.
