Ko-fi doesn't pay you itself: according to its help pages, supporters pay straight into your own PayPal or Stripe account, with no payout schedule. So whether it works in India depends on those two. PayPal's India agreement describes an export-payments service, and Stripe's global page labels India as Preview.
Ko-fi is different from most tip and shop platforms, and that difference is exactly what matters if you live in India. It never holds your money or sends you a payout. It just routes each supporter's payment into an account you already own. So the real question isn't whether Ko-fi works in India. It's whether PayPal or Stripe will work for you. Here's what each of the three says.
Ko-fi's money doesn't pass through Ko-fi
Ko-fi's help page on getting paid says you connect PayPal, Stripe or both, and the funds go directly into your own account every time someone supports you. It says there's no complicated payout schedule and no minimum balance. Its page on not having a PayPal account says a PayPal or Stripe account is needed to accept payments on Ko-fi and that, at the moment, these are the only payment methods available.
That's a big difference from platforms that collect, hold and release money. It means there's no Ko-fi review queue to wait in, and no Ko-fi country list for payouts. The checks happen at PayPal or Stripe.
What PayPal's India agreement says about receiving
PayPal's India user agreement says PayPal offers Export Payment Services in India, which allow you to receive payments from buyers for the export of goods and services outside India. It says you must link a bank account to your PayPal account and give the information needed to verify and authenticate that account. It lists as a restricted activity using the export service for a product or service worth more than 10,000 US dollars per transaction.
That's PayPal's own description of how receiving works in India. It doesn't mention tips specifically, so I can't tell you how a particular supporter payment is classified. For the wider PayPal picture, see my PayPal in India guide.
Stripe's Preview label for India
Ko-fi says Stripe lets you accept card payments, Google Pay and Apple Pay, and points to Stripe's global page for the country list. It also says a standard Stripe account is required and that you can only link a Stripe Connect account. On that global page, Stripe labels India as Preview.
I read that as a cue to try the connect step and see what Stripe offers you, rather than a yes or a no. My separate guide to Stripe in India goes through what Stripe's pages say.
Dollars in, no rupee page
Ko-fi lists ten currencies for your page, from US dollars to Thai baht, and Indian rupees aren't among them. It says only payments in a different currency get converted, and that PayPal and Stripe usually add a small percentage for that. If you set your page to US dollars and receive in dollars, conversion happens when your payment account moves money to your bank.
Ko-fi's own fees
On Ko-fi Free, one-time tips cost 0% and a flat 5% service fee applies to everything else, such as shop items, memberships and commissions. On the Standard option a flat 5% applies to tips as well. PayPal and Stripe take their usual fees on top, which Ko-fi puts at usually around 3% plus thirty cents.
Connecting Stripe step by step
Ko-fi's Stripe guide says you go to Settings, then Payment, click Connect and follow the Stripe flow. If you don't have a Stripe account, you can create one during the process. Stripe asks for your location, whether you're a business or an individual, some personal details, a link to where your content can be found, and a bank account for Stripe to send your money to.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Ko-fi adds that once connected, payments go straight to your Stripe account and that Stripe's payouts typically arrive within seven days. That timing is Stripe's, not Ko-fi's, and it depends on your country, so treat it as a guide.
A currency tip from Ko-fi
Ko-fi suggests setting your page currency to match the one you receive most payments in, to minimise conversion fees. For an Indian creator with mostly overseas supporters, that usually means choosing one of the ten listed currencies rather than expecting rupees. Check which currency your PayPal or Stripe account holds before you pick.
No Payoneer, no direct bank transfer
Ko-fi's page says the most requested new payment methods are Payoneer, Wise, GCash, CashApp, Payeer and direct bank transfers, and that it's working on adding more. None of them is available as a Ko-fi payment method today, so a Payoneer account for client work doesn't help you here. My notes on Payoneer in India cover that separately.
Tax
Ko-fi says it isn't the merchant of record, can't give tax advice, and that sales tax or VAT on shop and membership sales is the creator's responsibility. Please ask a local accountant how tips are treated for you.
