How to Stitch on TikTok and Control Who Can Stitch Your Videos

To Stitch on TikTok, tap the Share button on the video you want to use, tap Stitch, choose the part you want, then record your own clip and post it. As of October 2026 you can only Stitch videos that have Stitch turned on, and you need a public account if you want other people to be able to Stitch yours.

The catch: Stitches stay up even after you change your mind

This is the bit people find out too late. TikTok says that if you allow Stitches and later limit who can use your videos, or even delete your video, any Stitches already made stay on TikTok. Changing the setting only affects what happens next.

You can remove them, but there's a price. Deleting the Stitches associated with your video also permanently removes your original video. And while a Stitch is up, it's the other person's privacy settings that decide who can watch, comment on, download or interact with it, not yours.

How to Stitch someone else's TikTok video

  1. In the TikTok app, tap the Share button on the side of the video you'd like to Stitch.
  2. Tap Stitch and choose the part of the video you'd like to use, then tap Next.
  3. Select a maximum length for your video.
  4. Tap the Record button to create your Stitch, then tap the Continue button.
  5. Add a filter, voice, text, stickers, effects and more, or use the advanced editing tools.
  6. Tap Your Story to post to your Stories, or Next to make more edits: add a description, hashtags, tagged people, a location or a link, and manage privacy settings.
  7. Tap Post to publish your Stitch, or Drafts to save it.

Drafts are only visible to you on your profile, so you can save a Stitch and come back to it. If Stitch doesn't appear when you tap Share, that's because not every video has it turned on. Step five is where most Stitches get their personality, and my guide on adding text to TikTok videos helps there.

Your Stitch only appears on your profile. The original stays on the original creator's profile.

Who can Stitch your videos

SettingWho can Stitch your videos
EveryoneAnyone, as long as Stitch is turned on
Friends (followers you follow back)Only people you follow who also follow you back
Only youNobody else
  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy, then tap Reuse of content.
  4. Tap Allow reuse of content from and choose who you'd like to allow.

Whatever you pick, your account must be public for anyone else to Stitch you. On a private account, Stitch is off for other people.

Turn Stitch off for one video or all of them

Before you post: create your post, tap More options on the Post screen and turn the Allow reuse of content setting off.

On an existing post: go to the video, tap the More options button on the side, tap Privacy settings at the bottom (you may need to swipe) and turn Allow reuse of content off. You may need to scroll to find it.

All existing videos: TikTok says you can turn Stitch off on all your existing videos at one time with the reuse of content setting.

One knock-on effect: turning Stitch off also affects who can Duet or create stickers with your posts and add your post to their Story. They're one bundle in TikTok's settings.

Remove Stitches made with your video

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy, then tap Reuse of content.
  4. Tap Reuse of content history.
  5. Select the video you'd like to manage, then tap the More options button at the top.
  6. Tap Remove all posts, then tap Remove to confirm.

That permanently removes your original post and all its Duet and Stitch videos. If there are more than 10, you may have to verify the account belongs to you, and TikTok suggests downloading your original to your device first if you want to keep a copy. You can reach the same list through Settings and privacy, then Activity center, then Reuse of content history. If a single Stitch breaks your privacy or the Community Guidelines, TikTok says you can report the video or contact it through its online form.

Here's the related guide: how TikTok recommends videos.

Stitch rules for teen accounts

For ages 13 to 15, no one can Stitch your videos and that can't be changed, though you can Stitch videos made by people over 16. For ages 16 to 17 on a private account, no one can Stitch you. On a public account, Stitch is set to Friends by default and can be changed to Everyone, and you can turn off Allow reuse of content when you post.

Keep going with this walkthrough of how to turn off TikTok story views.

Stitch or Duet: which one fits

A Stitch uses a part of someone's video inside your own. A Duet is different: it posts your video side by side with another creator's, in a split screen where both play at the same time. The rules around them match, including the public account requirement and the fact that the new video lives on the profile of whoever recorded it. Here's my guide on how to Duet on TikTok, and if you want to find reactions to your own posts, this one shows how to see Duets on TikTok.

My verdict on TikTok Stitch

Stitch is a great way to reply to a question or add your take to a trend, because you only borrow the moment that matters. If you're the one being Stitched, set Allow reuse of content from to Friends if you'd rather keep it among people you know. Decide before you post anything sensitive, because once a Stitch exists, clearing it means removing your original too.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I Stitch a TikTok video?

Not all videos have Stitch turned on. The creator chooses who can Stitch, and nobody can Stitch videos from a private account.

Where does my Stitch appear?

Only on the profile of the person who recorded the Stitch. The original video stays on its creator's profile.

If I turn Stitch off, do existing Stitches disappear?

No. Stitches already made stay on TikTok. You can delete them, but that also permanently removes your original video.

Who can Stitch a 13 to 15 year old's videos?

No one. For ages 13 to 15, TikTok says nobody can Stitch your videos and that can't be changed.
