To repost on TikTok, open the video, tap the Share arrow and choose Repost in the share panel. The video then shows to the people who can see your reposts, and it appears in a reposts area on your profile. To undo it, tap Share and Repost again. Menus vary by app version.
Reposting is TikTok's way of letting you pass someone else's video to your own followers without downloading it, re-uploading it or stitching your face onto it. If you run a business, it's a quick way to share a customer's clip, back up a creator you work with, or point your audience at something useful. The catch is that the button isn't always where you expect it, and TikTok doesn't offer it on every video.
This guide follows TikTok's own support pages for the Repost feature. TikTok changes its menus fairly often and rolls features out at different times in different places, so labels on your phone may differ a little from mine. I'll say where that matters. If the button is missing and you're wondering why, my separate piece on why you can't repost on TikTok anymore covers the reasons in detail, so I'll keep the fixes short here.
How to repost on TikTok from the video you're watching
The basic method takes a few seconds on the TikTok app:
- Open the video you'd like to repost, from your For You page, your Following feed or a profile.
- Tap the Share arrow on the right-hand side of the video.
- Look for the Repost option in the share panel, usually shown with two curved arrows, and tap it.
- Wait for the confirmation. The video is now shared to the people who can see your reposts.
If you don't see the Repost option straight away, scroll along the row of icons in the share panel. TikTok puts several actions in that row, such as sending the video to a friend, saving it and copying the link, and the order can differ between app versions.
Where your TikTok reposts show up
Reposts aren't copies. They're a pointer back to the original video, and the original creator keeps the credit and the view count. TikTok's support pages explain that reposted videos can appear to your friends and followers, and you can find them in a dedicated reposts area on your profile.
- Open your profile and look for the reposts tab next to your own videos.
- Your followers may also see the video in their feeds, depending on how recommendations work for them.
- The original creator can often see that their video has been shared, because the share count on the original goes up.
Because a repost sits on your profile, treat it like a recommendation. Anything you repost says something about your account, so check the video and its comments before you tap the button.
How to undo a TikTok repost
If you've reposted something by mistake, or you simply change your mind, you can take it back. The usual route is:
- Go back to the video you reposted, or open it from the reposts tab on your profile.
- Tap the Share arrow again.
- Tap the Repost option once more. It should now be marked as active, and tapping it removes the repost.
Removing a repost only takes it off your profile. It doesn't touch the original video, and the creator keeps everything.
Choosing who sees your TikTok reposts
TikTok's privacy settings include controls for who can view your reposts. Menus vary by app version, but the route is generally:
- Tap Profile, then the menu icon at the top right.
- Open Settings and privacy, then Privacy.
- Find the setting for reposts and choose who can see them.
It's worth setting this deliberately if your account is for your business. A personal account that reposts a lot of memes, politics or jokes can send a mixed message to customers who follow you for your products or services.
Why the Repost button might not appear on TikTok
If you can't find it, the cause is usually one of the following. These come from TikTok's own wording about the feature and from how the app behaves for different accounts.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Your app's out of date. Update TikTok in the App Store or Google Play and restart it.
- The feature hasn't reached your account yet. TikTok often releases features in stages, so you may see it a little later than a friend does.
- The creator has switched sharing off. Creators can limit what others do with their videos, and private accounts don't let you pass their videos on.
- The video isn't eligible. Some content can't be shared in this way, for example material TikTok restricts.
- Your age or region. Some features are limited for younger users or in particular countries.
If none of these fits, log out and back in, clear the app's cache in its settings, and try again. For anything else, TikTok's support team is the place to ask, because I can't see your account.
Repost, share, stitch or duet on TikTok: what's the difference?
These four get mixed up constantly, and they behave differently for your business account.
| Option | What it does | Best used when |
|---|---|---|
| Repost | Shows the original video to your followers and keeps the creator's credit | You want to recommend someone else's video unchanged |
| Share to a friend | Sends a link or the video privately to one person or group | You want one person to see it |
| Stitch | Uses a clip of someone's video at the start of your own | You want to react or add your view |
| Duet | Plays your video next to theirs | You want a side-by-side response |
Using TikTok reposts sensibly for a small business
Reposting is easy to overuse. Here's how I'd think about it if you're running a brand account:
- Repost customer videos, with their permission if you can ask. A quick comment saying thanks is friendly and keeps things above board.
- Repost useful tips from partners or suppliers who share your audience.
- Don't repost anything you haven't watched all the way through, including the audio and the comments.
- Keep original videos as the heart of your account. Reposts support them but don't replace them.
- If you're polishing your own clips before posting, my comparison of video editing apps for Reels and TikTok is a good starting point, and hashtags that work on TikTok and Instagram helps your originals get seen.
It also helps to keep an eye on how videos behave once they're live. If your clips seem to stall, my explainer on why TikTok views stall early is worth a read.

Frequently asked questions
How do I repost a video on TikTok?
Open the video, tap the Share arrow, then tap Repost in the share panel. The video is then shared with the people who can see your reposts, and it appears in the reposts area of your profile.
Can I undo a repost on TikTok?
Yes. Open the video again, tap Share, then tap the active Repost option to remove it. This takes it off your profile and leaves the original video untouched.
Does the original creator know I reposted their TikTok?
The creator keeps the credit, and the share count on their video can rise when you repost it. TikTok decides what notifications they see, so I can't promise exactly how they're told.
Why can't I see the Repost button on TikTok?
Your app may be out of date, the feature may not have reached your account yet, or the creator may have limited sharing on that video. Update the app first, then try a different video.
Can I choose who sees my TikTok reposts?
TikTok's privacy settings include a control for who can view your reposts. Menus vary by app version, so look under Settings and privacy, then Privacy.
