To snooze someone on Facebook, find one of their posts in your feed, tap the three dots at the top right and choose Snooze followed by their name. Their posts disappear for 30 days, then come back by themselves. They aren't told and you stay friends. You can snooze Pages and groups the same way.
Snooze is Facebook's polite pause button. It hides someone's posts from your feed for a while and then quietly brings them back, so you don't have to remember to undo anything. I recommend it for those moments when a friend's posting about one topic non-stop, or a Page you follow is in the middle of a big promotion you don't need to see. Nobody gets told, and nothing changes in your friendship.
Snooze someone on Facebook from a post in your feed
Facebook's help pages describe snoozing from a post in your feed. Menus vary by app version, but the steps are much the same on the app and on a computer:
- Find a post from the person in your feed.
- Tap or click the three dots at the top right of the post.
- Choose Snooze followed by their name, for example Snooze Sam for 30 days.
Their posts disappear from your feed straight away. The option says for 30 days on the menu, which is how long Facebook's snooze lasts.
Some guides describe snoozing from the person's profile too, using the three dots near the Follow button. I couldn't confirm that route against Facebook's own help pages, so if you don't see it on a profile, use a post in your feed instead.
Snoozing Facebook Pages and groups
Snooze isn't just for people. You can snooze a business Page or a group in exactly the same way: find one of their posts in your feed, open the three dots and choose the snooze option with the Page or group name. You stay a follower of the Page and a member of the group throughout.
That's handy for busy groups. If a group you're in for work suddenly gets very chatty, snoozing gives you a breather without leaving and having to ask to rejoin.
What happens while a Facebook snooze is running
- Their posts stop showing in your feed until the snooze ends.
- They aren't notified that you've snoozed them.
- You stay friends, a follower or a group member.
- You can still visit their profile, Page or group whenever you like.
- Facebook lets you know shortly before the snooze ends, so you can snooze again if you'd like longer.
Ending a Facebook snooze early
If you change your mind, you can undo a snooze before it runs out. Facebook keeps a list of people, Pages and groups you've snoozed in your feed preferences. Open the menu, go to Settings and privacy, then look for Feed or Feed preferences and the snooze list. Menus vary by app version, so if you can't find it, search your settings for snooze.
You can also visit the person's profile or the Page and look for an option to end the snooze.
Snooze versus unfollow on Facebook
The two are close cousins. The difference is how long they last.
| Snooze | Unfollow | |
|---|---|---|
| How long | Ends by itself after the snooze period | Lasts until you follow again |
| Do they get told? | No | Also no |
| Do you stay friends? | Yes | You do |
| Best for | A temporary break | Someone you never want in your feed |
If you've snoozed the same person twice in a row, it's probably time to unfollow them instead. My guide to unfollowing someone on Facebook without unfriending them shows how.

Good moments to snooze someone on Facebook
Snooze works best when you know the annoyance is temporary. A few times I'd reach for it rather than anything more permanent:
- A friend is posting daily updates from a long holiday and you've seen enough beaches for now.
- Someone is in the middle of a big life event, such as a wedding or a new baby, and the volume of posts is more than you'd like, even though you're happy for them.
- An election, a sports tournament or a news story has taken over your feed.
- You're having a hard time yourself and need a break from certain kinds of posts.
- A Page is running a long launch or a countdown you aren't interested in.
In each case you'll want them back in your feed eventually, which is exactly what snooze does. There's no awkward follow-up and no need to remember who you muted.
Using snooze to keep Facebook useful for your business
If you run a small business, your feed is a working tool as well as a social one. Snooze helps you keep it focused during busy periods:
- Snooze friends during a big launch week so your feed shows customers and peers.
- Snooze competitors' Pages if their posts distract you, rather than unfollowing and losing track of them entirely.
- Snooze groups that flare up with off-topic chat, then let them come back on their own.
Snooze only covers posts in your feed. If it's alerts that are pulling you back into the app, my guide on turning off Facebook notifications deals with those. And if it's short videos taking over, I've covered keeping Reels out of your Facebook feed separately.
When the Facebook snooze option is missing
- Snooze appears on posts in your feed. If you're looking at a post inside a group or on a profile, go back to your main feed and find one of their posts there.
- Some posts, such as ads, show different options. Look for a post the person shared themselves.
- Update the app, as menus change between versions.
Frequently asked questions
