To unlike something on Facebook, go back to the post, photo or comment and tap Like again to remove it. To unlike a Page, go to the Page and tap Liked. Facebook says you can only unlike things you previously liked, and unliking a Page isn't the same as unfollowing it.
It takes a second once you know where to tap. The part people miss is the difference between unliking and unfollowing, because they do different jobs. Everything below comes from Facebook's Help Center, read in October 2026.
How to unlike a post or photo
- Go to the post or photo you liked.
- Tap Like (it shows as highlighted because you've already liked it).
- Your like is removed straight away.
How to unlike a comment
- Find the comment you liked.
- Tap Like under the comment to remove it.
How to unlike a Facebook Page
- Go to the Page.
- Tap Liked.
- Choose the option to unlike it.
Unlike vs unfollow: which one do you need?
This is where most people get stuck. Liking and following are separate on Facebook. You can unlike a Page and still follow it, or stop seeing a Page's posts while you still like it.
| What you want | What to do | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Take back a like on one post or comment | Tap Like again on that post or comment | Your like disappears from that item |
| Stop being a fan of a Page | Go to the Page and tap Liked | You no longer like the Page |
| Stop seeing a Page's posts in your Feed | Go to the Page, tap Following, then Unfollow, then Update | Their posts stop showing in Feed |
| Stop seeing a friend's posts but stay friends | On their profile, tap Following, then Unfollow | You stay friends, their posts leave your Feed |
| Stop seeing a group's posts but stay in it | In the group, tap Joined, then Unfollow group | You stay a member |
Facebook's help says that when you unfollow someone, you won't see their posts in Feed but you'll still be friends. If you only want to see fewer of certain posts, it suggests choosing Not Interested on those posts instead. I've covered the full routine in how to unfollow someone on Facebook.
How to unfollow a Page from your Feed
- Find one of the Page's posts in your Feed.
- Tap the three dots (Options) in the top corner.
- Choose Unfollow and the Page's name.
Changed your mind? Facebook lets you reconnect through Settings and Privacy, then Settings, then Feed, then Reconnect.
Can you unlike lots of things at once?
Facebook's unlike instructions work one item at a time: go to the post, comment or Page and tap again. I couldn't find an official way to remove all your likes in one go, so be wary of any extension that promises to do it, because it would need access to your account.
Does the other person know you unliked their post?
Facebook's help page doesn't describe any notification for removing a like. Your like simply disappears from the post. Bear in mind, though, that if they already saw the original notification, they've seen it.
Why the Like button might not respond
If tapping Like again doesn't remove it, the usual culprits are a slow connection or an out-of-date app. Refresh the post, update Facebook and try again. On a computer, a hard refresh of the page often fixes it.
How to change a reaction instead of removing it
If you reacted with the wrong emoji, you don't need to remove it first. Facebook says to hover over your current reaction, next to Comment and Share, and select a new one. Clicking your current reaction on its own removes it.
Find old likes with your activity log
Can't remember where you liked something? Your activity log shows your Facebook activity in date order, including things you've liked. Only you can see it.
- Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
- Select Settings and Privacy, then Activity Log.
- Click Activity history.
- Open Your activity across Facebook to see likes and other interactions, or filter by Date.
- Open the item and click Like again to remove it.
If you're on the app and the menus look different, Facebook is gradually moving settings into Accounts Center, so use the search bar in Settings to find Activity log. And if you'd rather fewer people could see your activity in the first place, here's how to make your Facebook profile private.
Not Interested or snooze instead
Sometimes you don't want to unlike or unfollow, you just want less of something. Facebook gives you two lighter options from Options at the top right of any post in your Feed. Not Interested tells Facebook you'd like to see less content like that post; it replaced the old Hide post option. Snooze hides all posts from a person, Page or group for 30 days, and you stay friends or keep following.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
| Option | How long it lasts | Relationship afterwards |
|---|---|---|
| Unlike | Until you like it again | Your like is simply gone |
| Unfollow | Until you reconnect in Feed settings | You stay friends, or keep the Page liked |
| Snooze | 30 days | You stay friends or keep following |
| Not Interested | Shapes your Feed going forward | Nothing changes with the person or Page |
I use snooze for busy Pages during launches and holidays. It's the least dramatic option there is.
My advice
If what's bothering you is what shows up in your Feed, unfollow rather than unlike. It's quieter and you can undo it from Feed settings. Save unliking for when you'd rather your name wasn't attached to something.

Go back to the post and tap Like again. Your like is removed straight away.
How do I unlike a Facebook Page?
Go to the Page and tap Liked, then choose to unlike it.

Unliking removes your like from a post or Page. Unfollowing stops someone's posts appearing in your Feed while you stay friends, a member or a fan.
