How to Schedule Facebook Posts From a Phone

The short version: you can schedule Facebook posts from a phone using the Meta Business Suite app, which is free and works for Pages (not personal profiles), but the mobile version still falls short of desktop for anything beyond a single image post. If you're posting more than three or four times a week, you'll hit its limits within a fortnight.

What you need before you start

You cannot schedule posts from a personal Facebook profile, full stop. Scheduling only works for Facebook Pages, so if you're posting as yourself rather than as a business or brand, this entire feature is invisible to you. I see this confusion constantly: someone downloads Meta Business Suite, can't find the scheduling button, and assumes it's broken. It's not broken, you just need a Page.

So step one is making sure you have a Facebook Page connected to your account, and ideally connected to a Meta Business Suite account too. If you're already running a Page for a shop, a freelance service, or a side project, you're set. If not, creating one takes about four minutes from the Facebook app itself, under "Pages" in the menu.

The actual steps, start to finish

  • Download the Meta Business Suite app (not the old Facebook Pages Manager app, which Meta retired).
  • Log in with the account that manages your Page.
  • Tap the plus icon or "Create post".
  • Write your caption, add your image or video, and tag your location if relevant.
  • Instead of tapping "Post now", tap the small calendar icon or "Schedule" option.
  • Pick your date and time, then confirm.
  • Check the "Scheduled posts" tab to confirm it's sitting there waiting.

That last step matters more than people think. I've heard of posts that were "scheduled" but never published because someone tapped out of the app before the confirmation screen loaded fully. Always go back and check the scheduled queue.

A worked example

Say you run a small candle business from home and you post three times a week: Monday product shots, Wednesday behind-the-scenes, Friday discount code. On a Sunday evening, you sit on the sofa with your phone and batch all three. You open Meta Business Suite, create Monday's post with a product photo and caption, schedule it for 9am. Then you repeat for Wednesday's behind-the-scenes video at 1pm, and Friday's discount graphic at 10am. Fifteen minutes, done, and your week is covered without touching your phone again until Sunday rolls round.

That's the dream scenario, and it works for simple, single-platform, single-format posting. Where it falls apart is the moment you want to schedule a carousel of six images, add a first comment with a link (Meta still doesn't let you schedule first comments from mobile, only from desktop), or cross-post identical content to Instagram with platform-specific caption tweaks. The Meta Business Suite app handles the basics well and quietly refuses to do the rest.

The uncomfortable bit nobody tells you

Most guides on this topic make scheduling from a phone sound like a complete replacement for desktop planning. It isn't, and pretending otherwise wastes your time. Bulk uploading, detailed analytics, and anything involving multiple linked accounts (a Page, an Instagram profile, and Threads all managed together) is still noticeably clunkier on mobile. I'd go as far as saying if you're managing more than one Page, do your actual planning on a laptop once a week and use the phone only for quick, reactive posts or last-minute schedule tweaks. Trying to run your whole content calendar from a phone screen, thumb-typing captions on a bus, is how quality drops and typos creep in.

There's also the algorithm reality: scheduled posts get treated no differently to posts published in real time, so don't expect a scheduling bonus. What matters more is consistency and whether your caption gives people a reason to stop scrolling, not the mechanism you used to publish it.

Formatting and extras worth knowing

If you want a plain text post with a coloured background rather than a photo, that option exists inside the same composer, and I've written a full breakdown of how to add a coloured background to a Facebook post if you want text-only posts to stand out in a feed full of photos. It's a small detail but it noticeably increases stop-scroll rate compared with plain white text on blue.

Also worth knowing: Facebook now surfaces Threads content inside the main feed for some users, which confuses people scheduling posts who suddenly see unfamiliar formats appear. I covered what's going on there in a separate piece on what Threads on Facebook is, because it affects what your scheduled posts end up sitting next to.

What goes wrong and how to fix it

The most common failure I hear about is scheduled time showing in the wrong time zone. Your phone's clock and your Page's set time zone (set once, in Page settings, and rarely checked again) can disagree, so a post meant for 9am UK time goes out at 9am US Eastern instead, five hours late. Check your Page's time zone setting once, and you'll never have this problem again.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

The second issue is videos stuck "processing" for longer than expected on mobile data. If you're scheduling a video and your connection is patchy, switch to wifi before uploading, or it can sit in limbo and simply never post at the scheduled time without any error message telling you why.

If you're managing Facebook scheduling alongside other business tools, like meal prep for a food brand or local search posts for a shop, it's worth knowing the broader landscape: for a food-related Page, our rundown of meal planning apps compared across ten options is a useful adjacent read, and if you also run a Google Business Profile alongside Facebook, our guide on why Google Business Profile posts get rejected covers a parallel scheduling headache worth avoiding.

When to stop doing it yourself

If you've got five or six channels, multiple Pages, and a calendar that's starting to feel like a second job, scheduling from a phone stops being the efficient option and starts being the thing eating your evenings. At that point it's worth getting real help setting up a system that scales, rather than manually tapping through a queue every Sunday night. That's exactly the kind of practical, unglamorous fix an AI consultant for small business can sort out in a single session, by setting up templates and automation so you're not starting from a blank screen every week.

Frequently asked questions

Can I schedule Facebook posts from a phone without Meta Business Suite?

Not directly within the standard Facebook app for a Page in most regions; Meta Business Suite is the official route, and third-party apps that claim to schedule for you need Facebook API access, which carries its own account risk if the tool is unreliable.

Why can't I see the schedule option on my Facebook app?

You're almost certainly posting as a personal profile rather than a Page. Scheduling is a Page-only feature, so switch to posting as your Page first.

Can I schedule Facebook Stories from a phone?

No. Stories still have to be posted in real time from a phone; only feed posts, Reels in some cases, and certain video formats support scheduling.

How far in advance can I schedule a Facebook post?

Meta allows scheduling months ahead, but in practice anything beyond six to eight weeks risks becoming stale or clashing with news events, so plan a rolling two to four week window instead.
