The Meta Business Suite app is Meta's free mobile app for managing a Facebook Page and Instagram account from your phone: you can post and schedule content, reply to messages and comments in one Inbox, set up automated replies, check insights and create or boost ads. It runs on iOS and Android, and some tools, such as custom keyword automations and cross-posting to Threads, still only work on desktop.
Meta describes Meta Business Suite as free to use on desktop and in the mobile app. What it doesn't make obvious is where the two differ, so this guide walks through what the app does well, how to set it up, and the jobs you'll still want a laptop for.
What you need before the app is useful
Meta Business Suite works on top of a business portfolio, the container that holds your Facebook Page, Instagram account and ad account along with the people who can use them. Without one, there's little for the app to manage.
- A business portfolio with your Facebook Page in it.
- Your Instagram profile connected. Meta notes an Instagram profile can only be connected to one business portfolio, though you can give a partner access.
- The right access level. To create ads in the app, Meta says you need at least partial access to the Page and to the business portfolio it's connected to.
If your Instagram account isn't linked yet, my step-by-step on adding an Instagram account to Meta Business Suite covers the desktop route. In the app, Meta's path is More, then Settings, then Connect next to Instagram.
What the Home screen shows you
Home is where the app opens, and Meta lists what it pulls together:
| Home section | What you see |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Unread messages, comments, likes and other recent activity on your Page and Instagram profile |
| Recent content | Published stories and reels across Facebook and Instagram, with the option to boost them |
| Recent ads | New, active and completed ads from the last 14 days, plus a shortcut to create one |
| Insights | Reach and audience metrics such as Page likes and Instagram followers, paid and organic |
| What's new | Recent feature releases and announcements for Meta Business Suite |
| Menu bar | Quick routes to create content, review Content, open Inbox and other tools |
You can switch between Pages or Instagram profiles from the icon in the top left.
Posting and scheduling from your phone
- Tap Content in the bottom menu bar.
- Choose the type at the top: posts, reels or stories.
- Tap Create and allow access to your photos and videos the first time.
- Add your text and media, then tap Next.
- Tap Schedule for later and pick a date and time, or publish now. Facebook posts can also be saved as a draft.
Scheduled and published content then shows on the date it goes out in Planner. If you'd like to compare this with other free options, I've covered how to schedule Facebook posts for free in more depth.
Inbox and automations on mobile
The app's Inbox brings messages from Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp into one place, along with comments. To set up automations, open Inbox, tap the icon in the top-right corner, then tap Automations and pick a template. For frequently asked questions you can add up to 5 questions, and the away message runs on a schedule you set by time zone, days and hours.
Meta adds a detail worth knowing: if you turn on Meta Business Agent, any existing automations such as away messages or instant replies are paused.
Ads and boosts in the app
To create an ad, tap More, then Ads, then Advertise, choose a goal, add your creative, pick an audience, placements, budget and duration, then tap Promote Now. Placements include Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Meta Audience Network. Meta says ads are reviewed within 24 hours. To boost an existing post, go to Content, choose Published, find the post and tap Boost post.
What the app can't do yet
This is the part that saves people time hunting through menus. According to Meta's own help pages:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
| Task | Available in the app? |
|---|---|
| Custom keyword automations | No, desktop only |
| Comment to message automations (reply to comments with hashtags) | No, desktop only |
| Cross-posting to Threads | No, desktop only |
| Cross-posting a Facebook post or reel to Facebook Stories | No, desktop only |
| Campaigns with several ad sets, A/B tests, retargeting | Use Ads Manager, not Business Suite |
Meta's own split is simple: Business Suite for scheduling organic content, managing Inbox, reading insights and quick ads; Ads Manager for multi-ad-set campaigns, custom audiences, A/B tests and retargeting. For a bigger screen, there's a route to reel insights on desktop as well.
On desktop, Business Suite also has a Leads Center, and our guide to Leads Center explains what it does.
My verdict
The Meta Business Suite app is the one Meta app I'd put on every small business owner's phone. Answering messages and comments from one Inbox and scheduling a week of posts on the train covers most of what a busy Page needs. Do the setup jobs, keyword automations and Threads cross-posting on a computer, and remember the suite itself costs nothing, as I explain in is Meta Business Suite free.
I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
