How to Loop a YouTube Video on Any Device

To loop a YouTube video on a computer, right-click the video player and choose Loop. In the app, tap the Settings gear on the player, then Additional settings, then Loop video. To repeat a whole playlist, select Loop in the playlist box below the video. Right-click the player itself, not the page, or you'll see the wrong menu.

Putting a video on repeat sounds like it should be a big obvious button, but YouTube tucks it away in a slightly different place on each device. That's why so many people end up on third-party repeat sites they don't need. You don't need anything extra. YouTube has its own Loop option on computers, phones, tablets and TVs, and it works for whole playlists too. It's handy for things like a welcome video on a screen at an event, and plenty of people use it for music, workouts or practising a tricky skill.

Everything here follows YouTube's help article on looping videos and playlists. Menus vary by app version, so if a label looks different on your screen, look for the nearest match.

Loop a single YouTube video on your computer

  1. Open the video's watch page.
  2. Right-click directly on the video player itself, not on the page around it.
  3. Click Loop.

The video now repeats continuously until you stop it. To stop, right-click the player again and select Loop once more to untick it, or simply close the video.

Repeat a video in the YouTube app on Android, iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the watch screen of the video.
  2. Tap the player once to bring up the controls, then tap the Settings gear.
  3. Tap Additional settings.
  4. Tap Loop video to turn it on.

The steps are the same on Android and iOS, according to YouTube's help pages. The gear you want is the one on the video player, not the main Settings in your profile menu.

Looping a whole YouTube playlist

If you'd rather repeat a run of videos, you can loop the playlist instead.

  • On a computer: open a video that's part of the playlist, expand the playlist panel on the right and click Loop in the playlist box.
  • In the app: start playing the playlist, then tap Loop in the playlist control box below the video. The whole playlist repeats continuously.

Don't have a playlist yet? It only takes a minute to put one together, and my guide on how to make a playlist on YouTube walks you through it on every device.

Loop one video inside a YouTube playlist

Here's a neat trick from YouTube's help page for the app. When a playlist's already looping, tap Loop a second time. A small 1 appears in the middle of the icon, and now only the current video repeats instead of the whole list.

Repeat YouTube videos on a TV or games console

  1. While the video's playing, press down on your remote or controller.
  2. Select Repeat until the button reads Repeat, Currently playing (for one video) or Repeat, Playlist (for a playlist).
  3. Alternatively, select Settings while you're watching and use the Repeat toggle there.

This is the option to use if you're running a video on a big screen at a shop counter, a stand or a training session.

Looping a YouTube video for a business display or training session

If you're running a shop, a stand at a fair or a training day, a looping video can do a lot of the talking for you. A few practical pointers make it run smoothly. Use a TV app or a computer plugged into the screen rather than a phone, so a call or notification doesn't interrupt it. Sign in to an account you control, because the loop setting sits on the player you're using. Turn the volume down to a level that won't drown out conversations, and check the video from where your visitors will stand. If you'd like several clips to rotate, put them in one playlist and loop the playlist instead of a single video, so people walking past see something different each time they glance up.

YouTube loop compared with autoplay

These two settings get mixed up all the time, so here's the difference in one place.

SettingWhat it doesWhere it lives
Loop (single video)Plays the same video again from the startRight-click the player, or the player's Settings gear
Loop (playlist)Starts the playlist again after the last videoThe Loop button in the playlist box
AutoplayPlays a different, suggested video nextThe Autoplay switch on the player or in Settings

If your problem's the opposite one, where YouTube keeps jumping to random videos when yours ends, you want my guide to turning off autoplay on YouTube instead.

Handy reasons to put a YouTube video on repeat

  • Events and displays: a short brand video or product demo on a screen that needs to keep running all day.
  • Learning: going over the same section of a tutorial, a language lesson or a dance routine until it sticks.
  • Background sound: rain, white noise or a focus playlist while you work.
  • Checking your own content: watching your latest upload a few times in a row to spot edits you'd like to make next time.

If the YouTube loop option is missing

  • If Loop video isn't under Additional settings, update the YouTube app and look again.
  • On a computer, make sure you're right-clicking the video picture itself. Right-clicking the title or the page shows your browser's own menu instead.
  • Check you're on the video's watch page, not the small preview that plays while you scroll your homepage.
  • For playlists, look in the playlist box beside or below the video, not in the settings gear.

Yes. Open the video, tap the Settings gear on the player, tap Additional settings, then tap Loop video. The steps are the same on Android and iPhone.

How do I stop a YouTube video from looping?

YouTube's help page doesn't spell this out, but selecting the same Loop option again switches it off, and closing the video ends the loop too.

Can I loop just part of a YouTube video?

YouTube's help page only describes looping a whole video or a whole playlist. It doesn't describe a built-in way to loop a section.

How do I loop a playlist on YouTube?

Play the playlist, then select Loop in the playlist box beside or below the video. The whole playlist repeats continuously.

Is there a loop button on YouTube on a TV?

Yes. Press down on the remote while a video plays and select Repeat until it shows Currently playing or Playlist. You can also find a Repeat toggle in Settings while watching.
