Is AnyDesk Free? Only for Personal, Non-Commercial Use

Yes, AnyDesk is free, but only for personal, non-commercial use. AnyDesk's terms say the Free version is aimed exclusively at consumers and can't be used for your trade, business or profession, and AnyDesk may analyse usage data and suspend the free version if your pattern looks like commercial activity.

This is the bit that catches out freelancers and small business owners. You download AnyDesk, it works, and nobody asks you for a card, so it feels free for everything. It isn't. I've read AnyDesk's own terms and conditions, as of October 2026, so here's what the free licence allows, what it doesn't, and how to stay on the right side of it.

What AnyDesk Free allows

The terms include a separate section of supplementary terms just for AnyDesk Software Free, and those take priority over the general terms. In plain English, they say:

  • Downloading AnyDesk Free, its updates and using its functions are free of charge.
  • The Free offer is aimed exclusively at consumers for personal and non-commercial use.
  • AnyDesk Free is the only AnyDesk product available to consumers; everything else is sold to business customers.
  • The contract runs for an indefinite period and either side can end it at any time.

What counts as commercial use

This is where the wording is strict. The terms say personal use doesn't include use for your trade, business or profession, or use for purposes where you receive direct or indirect remuneration. That last phrase is wide. If you're paid, even indirectly, for the work you're doing over the connection, it's commercial.

SituationFree licence?
Helping your parents fix their laptopYes, personal and unpaid
Getting into your own home PC from your phoneYes
Supporting a client's computer, even for free as a favour to win workNo, it's connected to your business
Logging into your office PC to do your jobNo, it's for your profession
Running a small IT help serviceNo, it's paid support

AnyDesk can check, and it can switch you off

Here's the line I'd want every reader to know. AnyDesk's terms say it may analyse a customer's usage data of AnyDesk Free to verify compliance with personal, non-commercial use, and that it may, at its full discretion, suspend the Free version if there's reasonable suspicion your usage pattern is consistent with commercial activity.

So the risk isn't a letter from a lawyer in a year's time. It's your remote session refusing to connect on the morning you need it. If you support clients, that's a bad place to be.

No warranties on the free version

The free terms also say AnyDesk doesn't guarantee a specific scope of service and can change or discontinue it at any time without giving reasons. It takes on no maintenance obligations and no warranty for Free users, except in the case of fraudulent concealment of a defect. Liability is limited too. That's normal for free software, but it's another reason not to build a business process on it.

The 30-day business trial

AnyDesk's terms mention what it calls a Reverse Trial Period. At its discretion, AnyDesk may offer Free users a 30-day trial of a business version, free of charge, to test commercial use. When the trial ends, you go back to AnyDesk Free and must return to personal use only. It's a good way to test the paid features in real conditions before deciding.

Why AnyDesk draws the line so firmly

AnyDesk's general terms are written for business customers, which it defines as both individuals exercising their commercial or self-employed professional activities and legal entities. That definition matters if you're a sole trader or freelancer. You don't need a company to count as a business customer: being self-employed and using it for your work is enough.

The free terms also forbid things like selling, licensing, renting or otherwise commercially exploiting the software or making it available to third parties. So reselling remote support built on a free install is clearly out, even before you get to the usage checks.

How to use AnyDesk Free correctly

  1. Download AnyDesk from its own website, never from a third-party download site.
  2. Use it only for personal connections: your own devices, family and friends, unpaid.
  3. Keep work connections, even occasional ones, on a business licence or a tool whose free plan allows commercial use.
  4. If you're offered the 30-day business trial, use it to test the features you'd need for clients.
  5. Never give remote access to someone who contacted you out of the blue. My guide on whether AnyDesk is safe covers the scams to watch for.

My verdict

AnyDesk is free for home use and it's good at it. For anything connected to how you earn a living, it isn't free, and AnyDesk's terms give it the right to check and suspend you. If you support clients, budget for a business licence or compare the AnyDesk alternatives; I've also covered whether TeamViewer is free, which has a similar personal-use rule. Don't let a free download quietly become a business dependency.
