To hide Discord badges, Discord only documents one you can switch off yourself: the Legacy Username badge, under User Settings, Profiles. Discord says it can't remove the Quests badge and that Orbs and HypeSquad House badges stay. To hide all badges from people who aren't friends or in small shared servers, change your Profile Privacy setting in Data & Privacy.
Badges are the little icons next to your name on a Discord profile. Some people love them. Others run a community, a brand account or a business server and would rather not have a collection of icons telling everyone their history.
I'll be straight with you, because plenty of pages on this topic promise more than Discord offers. I've read Discord's Profile Badges article and its Profile Privacy article, and below is what they say you can and can't do.
Which Discord badges you can hide yourself
Discord documents a way to switch off one badge: the Legacy Username badge. That badge tells other people you kept your old username and discriminator. If you don't want it shown, you can turn it off.
Hiding the Legacy Username badge on desktop
- Open User Settings with the cogwheel at the bottom left.
- Go to Profiles.
- On the User Profile tab, scroll down.
- Turn off the Legacy Username Badge toggle.
Discord notes that some people don't see this toggle on desktop. If that's you, use the phone steps instead.
Hiding the Legacy Username badge on your phone
- Tap the You bar at the bottom of the app.
- Choose Edit Profile.
- Scroll down to the Legacy Username Badge toggle.
- Switch it off.
Discord badges you can't remove
Several badges don't have an off switch, according to Discord's Profile Badges article:
- Discord Quests badge: Discord says it can't take it off your profile right now, though the team will consider it as a future update.
- Orbs badge: once you've got it with Orbs, it can't be removed.
- HypeSquad House badges: Discord says the quiz is no longer available and it's not possible to remove the badge.
- Other legacy badges: Discord describes several of these as no longer obtainable. It doesn't document a way to hide them.
Profile badges are also non-transferable, so you can't move one to another account. If someone tells you they can hide any badge with a trick, treat it with suspicion. Please don't install add-ons or modified apps that promise it: they can break Discord's rules and put your account at risk.
Hiding Discord badges with the Profile Privacy setting
Here's the useful option. Discord's Profile Privacy setting controls who sees your full profile, and badges are on the list of things it hides. The others are your custom status, pronouns, connected accounts, bio, widgets and wishlists.
Changing Profile Privacy on desktop or in a browser
- Select the cogwheel in the bottom-left corner to open User Settings.
- Open the Data & Privacy tab.
- Scroll down to the Profile Privacy setting.
- Choose the option you want. It saves automatically.
Changing Profile Privacy on your phone
- Tap the You Bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the cogwheel in the upper-right corner of your profile.
- Go to Data & Privacy and scroll to Profile Privacy setting.
- Tap the option you want, then back out of Settings to save it.
The three Discord Profile Privacy options explained
| Option | Who sees your full profile |
|---|---|
| Friends & All Servers | Your friends and members of any servers you join. |
| Friends & Small Servers Only | Your friends and members of servers you join with 200 or fewer members. |
| Friends Only | Just your friends. |
Pick Friends Only and badges stay hidden from everyone else. Discord says that when this setting is on, a private profile shows a lock icon and limited information to people who aren't friends.
What still shows on your Discord profile after hiding badges
The setting doesn't make you invisible. Discord says these stay visible: your avatar, banner, display name, username, server tag, account age, and your mutual friends and servers. Moderators see the same as any other member of a shared server, so they don't get special access to what you've made private.
If your avatar is part of your public look, my guide to changing your Discord profile picture walks through that side of things.
Does hiding Discord badges stop friend requests or messages?
No. Discord's FAQ says a private profile doesn't stop people sending friend requests. It doesn't change who can message you either: that's controlled through your Content & Social settings.
Changing Profile Privacy may also prompt you to match your Activity Sharing setting. Discord asks whether you'd like to restrict activity sharing to the same group, and you can accept or decline. Teen accounts start with a tighter default, and Discord says anyone can change the setting at any time.

Hiding Discord badges on a business or creator account
If you use Discord for a brand, a coaching community or a small shop, the badge question is really about first impressions. A tidy profile with a clear avatar, display name and server tag does more for trust than any icon. If you'd rather keep personal details like your bio, pronouns and connected accounts away from strangers in big public servers, Friends & Small Servers Only is a sensible middle setting.
Think about who needs to see what. Customers who join your server will still see your avatar, banner and display name. They simply won't see the extra details, so make sure the visible parts say what you want them to.
If you can't find the Discord badge toggle or Profile Privacy setting
- Update the Discord app, then reopen User Settings.
- On desktop, if the Legacy Username Badge toggle is missing, use the phone steps, as Discord suggests.
- On a phone, open the You bar first. Profile settings sit behind your own profile.
- Menu names can change between versions, so check Discord's Profile Badges and Profile Privacy articles if something looks different.
Server Booster badges and Discord badge streaks
One thing worth knowing if you boost servers: Discord says the Server Booster badge reflects your boosting streak, and if you stop boosting, the streak and badge reset to the first level. That's about the badge changing, not hiding it.
For community owners tidying up a server, adding custom emojis to a Discord server is a friendlier way to give your space a personal look.
