How to Change Your Twitch Stream Title (Stream Manager Steps)

To change your Twitch stream title, open Stream Manager and use the Edit Stream Info panel, where Twitch says you can edit your title, go live notification, category, tags and language. If you can't see the panel, choose Edit from the Stream Manager drop-down and add it to your layout, then click Save.

Your stream title is the first line of copy anyone sees. It shows people what you're doing right now, and for a business or creator it's the difference between a vague 'live' and a reason to click. The good news is that you can usually change it without ending your stream.

I've followed Twitch's own Stream Manager help for this page. Twitch has updated its tools over the years, so where I can't confirm a mobile screen from Twitch's help pages, I've said so instead of guessing.

Where to change your Twitch stream title in Stream Manager

Twitch describes Stream Manager as the control panel for your stream. Inside it, the Edit Stream Info panel is the one you want. Twitch says it lets you edit the title of your stream, your go live notification, your streaming category, tags and stream language, all in one place.

  1. Open Stream Manager from your Twitch creator tools.
  2. Find the Edit Stream Info panel.
  3. Click into the title box and type your new title.
  4. Save or confirm the change using the button the panel shows.

The exact button wording can vary, so follow what the panel shows. The title is one of several fields in that same panel, so you can tidy your category and tags while you're there.

Adding the Edit Stream Info panel to Stream Manager

Stream Manager is customisable, so the panel may not be visible if someone has rearranged things. Twitch explains how to add one:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow beside Stream Manager in the top left.
  2. Choose Edit.
  3. Hover over the plus icon on the right edge of the page to open the layout menu.
  4. Drag the Edit Stream Info panel into place, or click the plus icon beside it.
  5. Click Save in the top left.

Twitch says you can also reset a messy layout by choosing Reset to Default from the same drop-down, and create several layouts if you use Stream Manager differently for different kinds of broadcast.

Changing your Twitch go live notification along with the title

Because the same panel holds your go live notification, it makes sense to update both together. A title that says one thing and a notification that says another is confusing. Twitch lists the go live notification as an editable field in the panel, so check it before you start.

What to write in a Twitch stream title

Twitch's help pages don't set rules on wording in the Stream Manager article, so this part is just my advice for creators and small businesses:

  • Say what's happening now, such as the game, the demo or the topic.
  • Put the most important words first, because long titles can be cut off in lists.
  • Keep it honest. A misleading title annoys viewers and wastes the first minute.
  • Update it when the plan changes, so people who arrive late see the truth.

Changing your Twitch stream title on a phone

Twitch's Stream Manager help describes the desktop panel. I couldn't confirm a mobile-app step from Twitch's help pages, so menus vary by app version. If you stream from your phone, look for the stream information screen before you go live, and check Twitch's help centre for the latest steps. The desktop route above is the one Twitch documents.

The same panel lets you set your streaming category, tags and language. Twitch has a separate help article on adding tags to describe your content. Raids also show your title and category to the people who arrive, so a clear one helps. My guide to raiding on Twitch explains what happens when a raid lands.

If you're rethinking your channel identity as well, my guide to changing your Twitch username covers the rules.

If you can't change your Twitch stream title

  1. Check you're signed in to the right channel and you're the owner or have the access Twitch gives editors.
  2. Refresh Stream Manager and try again.
  3. Make sure the Edit Stream Info panel is in your layout, using the Edit steps above.
  4. Try a different browser or a private window, in case an extension is interfering.
  5. If the field still won't save, contact Twitch Support through its help centre.

Planning your Twitch stream title before you go live

A little preparation makes the title easier to change on the fly. Before each broadcast, I'd suggest this routine:

  1. Open Stream Manager and find the Edit Stream Info panel.
  2. Write a title that matches what you plan to do first.
  3. Check the category and tags suit the same plan.
  4. Look at your go live notification so it matches.
  5. Save, then go live.

When your plans change mid-stream, return to the same panel and update the title so latecomers aren't misled.

Title habits that help small business and creator channels

If your channel supports a business, the title can mention the topic and the benefit for the viewer, for example a demo, a Q and A or a build-along. Keep it readable on a phone, avoid shouting in capitals and don't promise what the stream won't deliver.
