To build a landing page in Unbounce, pick how to start: an Unbounce AI prompt, a template or a blank page. Then edit with drag and drop, connect your domain and tools, preview, publish and set up an A/B test. Every account includes over 100 templates, so you rarely start from nothing.
Three ways to start your page
Every page begins with one choice, and it shapes how fast you get to a first draft.
| Starting point | What you get | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| AI prompt | A mobile-responsive draft built from a written description of the page | Getting a draft fast when you know the goal |
| Template | One of over 100 templates, automatically mobile-responsive | Most small businesses and first pages |
| Blank page | A drag-and-drop builder with an expanded component library | Designers who want full control |
You're not locked in either. You can switch between AI editing and drag and drop editing inside the page editor without leaving the page.
The seven-step build, from goal to first test
1. Pick one goal and one audience
Decide what the page is for: a booking, a download, a sign-up. Then decide who it's for. AI drafts are structured around your conversion goal, so a clear goal gives you a better first draft. Pages that try to do three jobs usually do none of them well.
2. Start from a template or an AI draft
Don't start from nothing unless you enjoy it. With over 100 templates in every account, there's almost always a layout close to what you need, and an AI draft gives you words to react to rather than a blank screen.
3. Drag in your content and brand it
Drop your text and visuals into the layout, then add your logo, fonts and brand colours. The page should feel like an extension of your website, not a stranger that turned up from an advert.
4. Check the mobile version
Templates are mobile-responsive, but your copy and forms still need a look on a phone. Aim for large buttons, stacked content and short forms. A form that's easy on a laptop can be painful on a small screen.
5. Connect your domain, tracking and tools
Set your custom domain and URL path. The guide says that with WordPress this takes minutes with no DNS or CNAME change. Add your tracking scripts, then connect where the leads should go. Native connections include Insightly, Salesforce, Mailchimp, HubSpot and Hotjar, and there's a Zapier integration for everything else.
6. Preview, set the basics and publish
Before you go live, set the page title, description and featured image, and choose whether search engines can see the page. Then test the form and the Thank You page yourself. A broken form on a page you're driving ads to wastes every click you send it, and it's the easiest mistake to catch.
7. Create a variant and test one change
Set up your A/B test before you send traffic. Create a variant that changes a single element, such as the headline, and track conversion rate. One change at a time is the only way to know what moved the result.
Why older tutorials may not match your screen
There are now two editing styles, AI prompts and a newer drag-and-drop builder, and the vendor's own product page lists further builder tools as coming soon. That means screenshots in older tutorials, including parts of the vendor's 2025 guide, may not match what you see. That's why I've described what each step achieves rather than naming exact buttons. If a menu has moved, look for the job, not the label.
Other builders that work the same way
Instapage lists a drag-and-drop builder with 250+ templates, forms, popups and A/B testing on its site.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Leadpages says its AI generates a page draft in about 60 seconds and that A/B testing is built in.
If you're still choosing a tool, my guide to landing page builders for small businesses compares the main options, and this walkthrough on laying out a page that converts helps whichever builder you pick.
My advice for your first page
Pick a template that's close to your goal, write one clear headline, keep the form to the fields you'll use, and test it on your own phone before you send any traffic to it. Then run one headline test. You'll learn more from that single test than from a week of tweaking colours.
