How to Cancel Discord Nitro on Desktop, iPhone and Android (2026)

On a computer or in a browser, open Discord, click the cog for User Settings, go to Subscriptions and click Cancel on your Nitro plan, then confirm. If you bought Nitro through the App Store on an iPhone or through Google Play on Android, you have to cancel it in that store instead, because Discord can't stop a subscription Apple or Google is billing.

Discord's help centre says you keep every Nitro perk until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. Cancelling early in the month doesn't cut you off early, so there's no reason to wait for the last day.

The catch: cancelling inside Discord does nothing for a Nitro you bought through Apple or Google. Discord's own rule is that you cancel on the same type of device you bought on. If you subscribed in the iPhone app, the subscription lives in your Apple Account and only Apple can stop it.

First, work out where you paid

This is the step people skip, and it's why so many say the Cancel button vanished. Think back to how you subscribed:

Where you subscribedWho bills youWhere you cancel
Discord desktop app or browserDiscord (card or PayPal)Discord: User Settings > Subscriptions
Discord app on iPhone or iPadAppleiPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions
Discord app on AndroidUsually Google PlayGoogle Play Store > Payments & subscriptions
A promotion or partner offerDepends on the offerCheck the offer's terms or Discord's support site

Not sure? Check your email for the receipt. An Apple receipt or a Google Play receipt tells you straight away which store to go to.

Cancel Nitro on desktop or in a browser

  1. Open Discord on your computer or log in through your web browser.
  2. Click the cog icon next to your username at the bottom left to open User Settings.
  3. Under Billing Settings in the left-hand menu, click Subscriptions.
  4. On your Nitro plan, click Cancel.
  5. Follow the prompts. Discord may show you an offer to stay; you can skip it and carry on.
  6. Confirm. The Subscriptions page now shows the date your Nitro ends.

If the Cancel button is missing, the plan was most likely bought through Apple or Google. Menus get renamed now and then, so if a label looks different, type subscriptions into the search box at the top of Discord's settings.

Cancel Nitro bought on an iPhone

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone (not the Discord app).
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap Discord.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll down to see it.

Apple's support page notes that if there's no Cancel button and you see an expiry message in red, the subscription's already cancelled. Refunds for these purchases also go through Apple, not Discord.

Cancel Nitro bought through Google Play

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile picture at the top right.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Pick Discord Nitro.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

Google is clear that uninstalling Discord doesn't cancel the subscription. You'll keep getting billed until you cancel it in the Play Store. If Discord doesn't appear in the list, you may be signed in to a different Google account from the one you paid with.

What happens after you cancel

Nothing changes on the day you cancel. When the paid period ends, your account goes back to the free version of Discord, and these are the things you'll notice:

Nitro perkAfter Nitro ends
Server Boosts that came with NitroRemoved, so a server you boosted may drop a level
Using custom emoji in any serverOnly works in the server the emoji belongs to
Animated avatar and profile bannerGo back to a still avatar and the standard profile
Bigger file uploads and HD streamingBack to the free limits
Nitro badge on your profileDisappears
Custom app themes and extra profile optionsSwitch back to the defaults

The server boost one matters if you're in a community that relies on you. Losing a level can switch off perks the whole server uses, like extra emoji slots or better audio. It's polite to give the mods a heads-up. If you're also tidying up your profile, my guide on hiding Discord badges covers what else shows on it.

Changed your mind before the end date? Discord shows a Re-Subscribe option on the Subscriptions page, which removes the pending cancellation. After the end date you'd simply start a new subscription.

Extra boosts and Nitro Basic are separate

If you bought extra Server Boosts on top of Nitro, they're their own subscription. Cancelling Nitro doesn't cancel them, and cancelling them doesn't touch Nitro. You'll find both listed on the same Subscriptions page, each with its own Cancel option, and Discord says a cancelled boost also runs to the end of its current billing period before it's removed.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Nitro Basic, the lighter plan, cancels the same way as full Nitro. One more thing to know: Nitro raises how many servers you can be in, so when it ends, your limit goes back to the free allowance, which matters if you've joined a lot of them. My guide to the Discord server limit explains how that works.

Can you get a refund?

Discord's Refund Policy says refund requests for Nitro have to reach its billing support within 5 days of the purchase, and each request is reviewed case by case. It also limits you to one refund per purchase category, so if you've had a Nitro refund before, you won't get another. Don't count on one; read the current policy on Discord's support site before you ask.

For anything bought through the App Store, Discord can't process the refund at all. You'd request it through Apple using the Apple Account that paid. Google Play purchases follow Google Play's own refund rules.

If you can't log in to cancel, Discord's billing support team can cancel for you when you contact them from the email address tied to your account. For other account problems, my Discord help guide explains where to get support.

My advice

Check your receipt first, then cancel in that place. If you only wanted Nitro for one event or one server, cancel the same day you subscribe: you'll still get the full period, and you won't forget and get charged again.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose Nitro straight away when I cancel?

No. Discord keeps your Nitro perks until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. The Subscriptions page shows the exact end date.

Why can't I find the Cancel button for Nitro?

You most likely bought Nitro through the App Store or Google Play. Those subscriptions can only be cancelled in that store's subscription settings, not inside Discord.

Does deleting the Discord app cancel Nitro?

No. Uninstalling the app doesn't stop billing. You have to cancel the subscription in Discord's settings or in the store you bought it from.

What happens to my server boosts when Nitro ends?

The boosts included with Nitro are removed when your paid period ends, so a server you boosted may lose a level and the perks that came with it.
