To cancel Amazon Music Unlimited, go to Your Amazon Music Settings, open the Amazon Music Unlimited section, select Cancel in your Subscription Renewal details and confirm. If you signed up through Amazon, you can also just say "Alexa, cancel my Amazon Music Unlimited subscription" to an Echo.
Here's the catch. Where you signed up decides where you cancel. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store, Google Play or a mobile service provider, you cancel or ask for a refund with them, and their cancellation and refund rules apply. Check your receipts or app store subscriptions before you go hunting in Amazon's settings.
Cancel Amazon Music Unlimited step by step
- Go to Your Amazon Music Settings.
- Go to the Amazon Music Unlimited section.
- Select the Cancel option in your Subscription Renewal details.
- If your plan is eligible, you'll be offered a pause instead. Pass on it if you want to cancel.
- Confirm the cancellation.
You can keep using Unlimited until your plan ends. After that, the app greys out your Unlimited songs and podcasts in your Library and removes the Playback option. Individual Plan subscribers and Family Plan account holders also lose their selected audiobook when the current billing cycle ends, whether they cancel or pause.
Cancel Amazon Music Standard
Standard works the same way, from the Subscription Renewal section of your Amazon Music settings, or by saying "Alexa, cancel my Amazon Music Standard subscription." You can use Standard until your plan ends; then your Standard songs and podcasts are greyed out in your Library and the Playback option goes. Annual Standard plans can't be paused.
Pause instead of cancelling
If your plan is eligible, you can pause a monthly subscription. The pause starts at the end of the billing cycle, and your subscription resumes automatically, or you can resume it any time from Your Amazon Music Settings. You can't pause Unlimited if you're on an annual plan, a free trial, a promotion, or a plan from the Apple App Store, Google Play or a mobile service provider.
Switch plans instead of cancelling
If Unlimited does more than you need, switching may suit you better than leaving. Go to Your Amazon Music Settings and select a different plan or renewal option. If you're paused, resume first, then switch.
| Unlimited plan | Who it suits, as of October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Individual | One person, streaming on one device at a time, with one audiobook a month |
| Family | Up to six family members, streaming on up to six devices at the same time |
| Single Device | One compatible Echo or Fire TV; no HD, Ultra HD or Spatial Audio, and no audiobook catalogue |
To move to Single Device you need an Echo or Fire TV linked to your Amazon account. Coming from a monthly Individual Plan, you can just say "Alexa, downgrade Amazon Music".
Streaming limits by plan
If people in your house keep cutting each other off mid-song, check the device limits before you cancel, because a different plan may fix it:
| Plan | Devices streaming at once, as of October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Amazon Music Free and Prime | One device at a time |
| Standard Individual or Unlimited Individual | One device at a time |
| Standard Family or Unlimited Family | Six devices at a time |
| Unlimited Single Device | One compatible device |
Unlimited plays through the Amazon Music app on Android, iOS, Fire Tablet with FireOS 6 and above, Fire TV, select streaming devices, smart TVs and smart speakers. The audiobook catalogue isn't included on the Unlimited Student Plan or the Single Device Plan.
What you still get without a subscription
Cancelling a paid plan doesn't take Amazon Music away entirely. Here's how Amazon's tiers compare:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
| Tier | What you get, as of October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Amazon Music Free | Top playlists and thousands of stations, with ads; select on-demand songs from curated playlists in the Android and iOS apps |
| Amazon Music for Prime members | 100 million songs ad-free in shuffle, top podcasts ad-free, and All-Access Playlists you can play on demand and download |
| Amazon Music Standard | 100 million songs in HD, millions in Ultra HD, Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio, the most ad-free top podcasts |
| Amazon Music Unlimited | 100 million songs on demand and ad-free in HD, millions in Ultra HD, Spatial Audio, over 15 million podcast episodes, offline listening, unlimited skips |
Prime's version has limits worth knowing. Outside All-Access Playlists, skip limits apply in most cases, and offline listening only works within those playlists. Free and Prime streaming time out after one hour of inactivity. On Fire TV you only get music, no podcasts, and on a Fire Tablet you don't get the full catalogue or ad-free podcasts. All-Access Playlists you ask for on an Echo play in shuffle mode. User-created playlists have skip limits unless they only hold songs you've bought. Eligible Prime memberships include Prime, 30-day Prime free trials and Prime Student, including the 6-month Prime Student free trial.
Should you cancel or switch?
I'd look hard at your Prime benefit before paying for Unlimited at all. If shuffle play and All-Access Playlists cover how you listen, cancel and let Prime do the work. If you mostly ask Alexa for music in one room, I'd switch to the Single Device plan rather than cancel. Before deciding, compare the current Amazon Music Unlimited price for Prime and non-Prime members, and if you're thinking of leaving Amazon for good, see how Amazon Music vs Spotify stacks up.
