How to Add Linktree to Instagram (Step by Step)

To add Linktree to Instagram, open the app, go to your profile, tap Edit Profile, select Links and enter your full Linktree URL including the https part, then save. Your URL ends in your Linktree username. Instagram's help says adding a website isn't available on computers, so use your phone.

Your Instagram bio is the shop window of your whole account. People see a post they like, tap your name, and then decide in a couple of seconds whether you're worth following. If the only thing they find is a blank link area, you've lost a customer you'd already half won.

A Linktree gives that spot a job: one address that opens a tidy page with everything you want people to find. Here's how to add it, following Linktree's own help article, plus the small habits that make the link justify its place on your profile.

Getting your Linktree address ready for Instagram

Your address is simple to build. Linktree's help says your Linktree URL ends in your username, for example linktr.ee/yourusername. If you'd rather copy it than type it, Linktree's own guide says to open your Linktree admin and tap Share at the top right, which copies your URL.

Always paste the full address, including the https part at the start, when you add it to Instagram. Linktree's help article asks for your full URL, including that part.

Putting your Linktree in your Instagram bio on your phone

This is done in the Instagram app. Linktree's help article gives the route like this:

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
  2. Tap Edit Profile.
  3. Select Links.
  4. Enter your full Linktree URL, including the https part at the start.
  5. Save your changes.

Instagram renames and rearranges these fields from time to time. Some versions show a Website box and others show a Links option, so look for whichever field is for adding a link. Instagram's own help page on adding a website to your profile also notes that the feature isn't available on computers, so use the phone app for this job.

Checking that your Instagram Linktree link works

Don't assume it's right just because it saved. Look at your profile the way a stranger would:

  • Open your profile from a second account, or ask a friend to look.
  • Tap the link and confirm it opens your Linktree and not an error page.
  • Check that the first thing on your Linktree is what you most want people to click.
  • Make sure there isn't a typo in the username part of the address.

If Instagram shows visitors a warning when they tap, Linktree has a help article about why Instagram or TikTok may warn about a Linktree. Read that before assuming you've done something wrong.

Writing a bio that sends people to your Linktree

The link on its own is easy to miss. Tell people it's there, in the words of your bio, and say what they'll find. Something like a short line naming your offer, followed by a nudge to look at the link. If you want some visual character in that text, my Instagram font generator for bios lets you copy and paste styled lettering.

A few things I'd do for any small business account:

  • Use the first line of your bio for what you do, and the last line for the one action you want.
  • Make the top item on your Linktree match that action.
  • Refresh the top item whenever you run a launch or a seasonal offer.
  • Put your most recent or most popular links first, and drop old ones.

Linktree's help says your Linktree URL works anywhere you have a bio or a link. That's useful beyond Instagram. The same address can go in your email signature, your video descriptions and other social profiles. It means you only ever have one address to remember, and one page to keep up to date.

WhereWhat to do
Instagram bioAdd the full URL under Edit Profile, in the link field
Email signaturePaste the same address as a plain link
Other social biosUse the same address wherever there's a link field
Printed materialUse a QR code made from the address
  1. Update the Instagram app from your app store, because older versions can have different menus.
  2. Use the phone app, not a computer, since Instagram's help says the website feature isn't available on computers.
  3. Check you included the full address with the https part at the start.
  4. Log out and back in, then try again.

Still not working? Instagram's help centre is the place to ask, because Linktree can't see what Instagram is doing with your profile.

Keeping your Instagram Linktree page fresh

Adding the link is a five-minute job. Keeping it useful is the part that matters over the months. Once a month, open your Linktree and ask whether each item still deserves its place. Remove offers that have ended and pages you've deleted, and move whatever's newest to the top.

It also helps to match your latest post to your top link. If you've just shared a video about a new service, make that service the first thing a visitor sees when they tap through. People who arrive from a post are curious about that exact topic, so give them the next step straight away rather than a general menu.

Linktree isn't the only option. If you're not sure it fits your business, my guide to Linktree alternatives for small businesses and creators compares the other options, and my round-up of link in bio tools for Instagram and TikTok shows how they differ. Pick the one you'll really keep up to date, not the one with the longest feature list.
