How to Put a YouTube Link on Your Instagram Bio (2026)

Copy your channel or video link in the YouTube app (Share, then Copy link), then in Instagram go to your profile, tap Edit profile, then Links, then Add external link, paste it and save. The link then shows on your profile as a tappable link anyone can open.

You can add up to 5 links to your bio, so your YouTube channel can sit next to a website, shop or newsletter. The first link is the one that shows on your profile, with the others tucked behind it, so put the one you care about most at the top. It works the same on personal, creator and business accounts, so there's nothing to switch before you start.

Start in the YouTube app on your phone. You want either your channel link or a single video link.

For your channel:

  1. Open the YouTube app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap your channel name or 'View channel' to open it.
  3. Tap the three dots or the Share option on your channel page.
  4. Tap Copy link.

For one video:

  1. Open the video in the YouTube app.
  2. Tap Share under the video.
  3. Tap Copy link.

Don't have a channel yet? Here's how to make a YouTube channel first, then come back.

Step 2: add it to your Instagram bio

  1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Tap Links.
  4. Tap Add external link.
  5. Paste the YouTube link in the address box.
  6. Add a title if Instagram offers a box for one, such as 'My YouTube channel'.
  7. Tap the tick or Save, then go back to your profile.
  8. Tap the link once yourself to check it opens YouTube in the right place.

If a menu name looks different in your version of the app, search Instagram's settings for the word 'Links'.

The catch: the bio is the only always-clickable spot

Links in captions and comments aren't clickable on Instagram. If you paste a YouTube address under a post, people see text they'd have to copy by hand, and most won't. That's why 'link in bio' became a habit: it's the one place on your profile where a link always works.

For a single video you're excited about, there's a second option. A story link sticker makes that one story clickable, so you can point people to a new upload while it's fresh. This guide to story links walks through it.

Where you put the linkIs it clickable?Best for
Your bio (Edit profile, Links)YesYour channel, always on
A story link stickerYes, on that storyA new video or a short promotion
A post captionNoTelling people to check your bio
A commentNoNothing link-wise; reply with 'link in bio' instead
A direct messageYes, in most chatsSending one person a video

A raw link can look long and messy. A few ways to make it cleaner:

  • Use your handle link. Your channel has a handle with @ in it. A link built on that handle is short, easy to recognise, and keeps working if you rename your channel later. You'll see it on your channel page, under your channel name.
  • Give it a title. If Instagram lets you name the link, call it something plain like 'Watch on YouTube' so people know where it goes.
  • Put it first if YouTube is your main channel. Only the first link shows on your profile without an extra tap.
  • Use a link-in-bio page if you have many links. One page can hold your channel, your latest video, a shop and a newsletter. Compare the options in this link-in-bio tools comparison.

And never write the web address in the post itself. It won't be clickable, and it makes the caption look cluttered. Say 'new video, link in my bio' instead.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

The link does the clicking, but the bio text does the convincing. Someone who lands on your profile should know in a second what your channel is about and why they'd want to watch. Keep it to one clear line that names the topic and gives a reason to tap. A few lines I've written as examples, to adapt to your own channel:

  • New baking videos every Sunday. Watch on YouTube below.
  • Easy home workouts for busy parents. Full videos on my channel.
  • Honest phone camera tests. The long versions live on YouTube.
  • Small garden, big harvests. Weekly tours on my YouTube.

Swap in your own topic and how often you post, and keep the line short so it fits neatly above the link.

Getting people from Instagram to YouTube

A link in your bio only works if people know it's there and have a reason to tap. A few habits help:

  • Mention the link in the caption when you post about a new video: 'Full video on my YouTube, link in bio.'
  • Share a short clip or a still from the video to your story with a link sticker.
  • Pin a post about your channel to the top of your grid.
  • Update the bio link when you publish something new, or link your channel and let people pick.
  • Keep the bio text clear about what your channel covers, so people know what they'll get.
  • Check you pasted the whole link and nothing got cut off at the start or end.
  • Update Instagram. Older versions sometimes put the link option in a different place.
  • If Instagram says the link can't be added, try the channel link instead of a playlist or a short link.
  • If it opens in a browser instead of the YouTube app, that's normal on some phones. The video still plays.

What I'd set up

If it were my account, I'd put my YouTube handle link first in the bio, mention it in every caption about a new video, and use a story link sticker the day each video goes live. It's simple, and it's the only route that's clickable every single time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a YouTube link to an Instagram caption?

You can type it, but it won't be clickable. Links in captions and comments aren't tappable on Instagram, so use your bio or a story link sticker.

How many links can you add to your Instagram bio?

You can add up to 5 links. The first one shows on your profile, and the others sit behind it.

Which YouTube link should I use?

Your channel's handle link, the one with @ in it, is best. It's short and keeps working if you change your channel's name.

Can I link one YouTube video instead of my channel?

Yes. Copy the video link from Share in the YouTube app and add it in Instagram the same way. A story link sticker also works for that one video.
