Roadie pays per Gig, not per hour. Its driver site advertises up to 12 US dollars per local trip and more on multi-stop deliveries, with pay set by distance, delivery speed and item size. RoadieXD scheduled Blocks pay at least 108 US dollars each depending on the cross-dock, and weekly deposits land on Wednesday morning.
Roadie sits in an odd corner of delivery work. You're not carrying takeaways or groceries most of the time, you're moving parcels, lost luggage, retail orders and sometimes bulky items between places. That changes how the pay works, so I've gone through Roadie's own driver pages to explain what each kind of Gig pays and how the money reaches you.
How Roadie sets pay for each Gig
Every job on Roadie is called a Gig, and each one carries its own price. Roadie says Gig pay is set by a combination of factors, including the distance between the pick-up and delivery locations, how fast the delivery needs to happen and the size of the items. A small parcel across town and a large item that has to arrive within the hour won't pay the same.
For short jobs, Roadie's driver site advertises earning up to 12 US dollars per local trip and even more on multi-stop deliveries. Note the words up to: that's the top of the range for a single local trip, not a typical figure. Roadie doesn't publish an average hourly rate, so your effective pay depends on how many Gigs you string together and how far you drive between them.
RoadieXD: the scheduled side of Roadie pay
RoadieXD is the part of Roadie built around warehouse pickups, and it pays differently. There are two kinds of XD work:
- Multi-stop Gigs. These start with a one-stop warehouse pickup and then several drop-offs. Roadie says they typically take 2 to 3 hours, don't need extra equipment and pay more per Gig because they're longer.
- Scheduled Blocks. Roadie says you can earn at least 108 US dollars per scheduled Block, depending on which cross-dock you pick up from. Blocks range from 4 to 7 hours and you book them ahead of time.
The catch with Blocks is the vehicle. Roadie says new drivers can take Blocks with a cargo van, Sprinter van or box truck, and Blocks need extra equipment for items up to 200 lbs. Drivers with pickups, minivans and SUVs can join XD by invitation only. If you've got a van, Blocks are the most predictable pay Roadie offers, because the minimum is stated up front.
What decides how much Roadie pays you
Pulling those together, your Roadie income comes down to a handful of choices:
- Which Gigs you accept. Distance, speed and item size all change the price, so read each offer before you take it.
- Single or multi-stop. Roadie says multi-stop deliveries pay more than a single local trip.
- Your vehicle. A van or box truck opens up XD Blocks with a stated minimum per Block.
- Your route between Gigs. Empty miles between jobs cost you fuel without earning anything, so batching nearby Gigs matters.
Roadie driver requirements
Roadie's sign-up guide keeps the list short. You must be 18 years old, have a Social Security Number and hold a valid, current U.S. driver's license. You also need a current auto insurance policy that meets or exceeds your state's minimum, and Roadie says you must carry proof of all required insurance at all times while you're doing Gigs.
That's a lower age limit than some delivery apps. For comparison, Walmart's Spark Driver pay model also starts at 18, while some other apps set a higher minimum age. Roadie's sign-up guide doesn't list a vehicle type for ordinary Gigs beyond the insurance rule, so the car you already drive may be enough to start.
How Roadie pays drivers: weekly or instantly
Roadie gives you two ways to get your money. By default, your balance is deposited weekly on Wednesday morning at no charge. If you'd rather have it sooner, there's Instant Pay, which shows up as a prompt below your balance in the app.
Instant Pay has rules. Roadie says you qualify once your first Gig was completed more than 7 days ago and you've delivered at least 5 Gigs since you signed up. A 1.99 US dollar processing fee comes off your balance each time, and after you add a debit card there's a 1-day wait before Instant Pay is available. If you use it every few days, that fee chips away at your pay, so it's worth asking whether Wednesday is soon enough.

What to watch for on Roadie
The main driver page doesn't describe tips, so I wouldn't count on them when you're working out whether a Gig is worth it. Base your decision on the price shown.
You also carry your own running costs. Fuel, insurance and wear on your vehicle come out of what each Gig pays, and longer XD routes add up quickly in miles. Roadie points drivers to a partner, Stride, for help with insurance cover, but it doesn't present that as Roadie's own policy. Keep a mileage log from your first Gig, and speak to an accountant about how your Roadie income should be reported where you live.
If you're comparing Roadie with work that doesn't involve a car, my roundup of fun careers that pay well is a good contrast.
